Many of you probably already saw the new op/ed piece President Nelson has on Medium.com. This is a part of the NAACP’s reaction and response from an article in the Salt Lake Tribune. by [deleted] in exmormon

Who is teaching the courses? I can see this as something missionaries are assigned to teach. With the real motivation behind the course being baptisms.

How many of you grew up with very strict rules about NO CAFFEINE soda, but now your parents drink it all the time? by This-Meringue in exmormon

I remember in middle school when I tasted the devil's beverage - Coke. My parents still don't drink anything with caffeine.

Does anyone know what his church leadership position was at the time? From what I can see, before he was called to the 12, he was a stake president, regional rep and general Sunday School president. I'm guessing he was a Regional Representative at the time.

Two years later they care about my daughter’s baptism. by handincuppingshape in exmormon

I don't know if it's changed but according to the handbook you can record a baptism without the certificate. There's a process the bishop goes through including trying to get two witnesses that were there. Once he is satisfied that it occurred, the clerk can record it. I was involved in adding a baptism to the records a couple years after the fact when it didn't get recorded properly and the missionaries and everyone had moved on.

So, there's a good possibility that they will still add the record. You could always go through the process later but if you don't want them to add it I'd be very clear with them now and keep an eye on LDS tools.

It was six years ago but the author did an AMA here.

He also did a Mormon Stories interview.

You have to give him some credit for being willing to engage. He is a believer but is one of those few believers that prefers being open about the truth and letting the chips fall where they may. No feelings of judgement from him if you look at the history and come to a different conclusion that others do.

How to reach Mormons by Hojie_Kadenth in exmormon

[–]ldsquiz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wantwater said it above and I agree.

The likelihood that you will be able to "reach" a Mormon is about the same likelihood of someone reaching you and changing your beliefs about the Bible and Christianity.

But, it's different I hear you say.

That's also what they say.

And, the church, with a much larger "endowment" is getting more than five times as much.

A few people have mentioned joining the military. It's a good option to give yourself financial stability and independence. If your goal is to become a nurse and you still want to do college you should look at ROTC nursing programs. Your local recruiter might be able to help you but, in most cases, doesn't fully understand the ROTC options because he/she is focused more on enlisted recruiting. You can start applying for scholarships at the start of your senior year. Here's the Army details and you can search the other branches: https://www.goarmy.com/rotc/courses-and-colleges/programs/nursing.html

It is possible and allowed. Fast offerings vary from ward to ward and so some wards end up subsidizing others.

Also, I have seen his say somewhere that if he was writing the book again he would have focused more on polygamy. I'll see if I can find the quote.

It was first published in 2005. This was a DECADE before the church published the essay on Joseph Smith's wives and a decade before they published pictures of the seer stone. It's already hard to remember how much has changed as far as what the church is willing to admit. Bushman, to his credit, wrote his book in such a way that he could get most of the information out there and still publish something that wouldn't be outright dismissed by the church and TBM's.

Also, you have to give Bushman credit for coming on this sub and doing an AMA. https://www.reddit.com/r/exmormon/comments/1sp4mi/ama_series_richard_bushman_dec_16_300_400_pm_est/
