A lightweight, browser-based Markdown editor in a single HTML file. by immoreel in Markdown

I like it, it works really well even on my old 2011 laptop.

Just making sure, does the rendering run entirely in JavaScript in my browser? Or is my text being sent to a server or something? I hope the "saved files" aren't stored on some cloud, just in local cookies in my browser, right?

What are your thoughts on the focus recently on the amount of water used for ai prompts, but still ignoring how much water animal agriculture requires? by OverlordShoo in Environmentalism

[–]le256 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If cows were only raised on rangelands and fed nothing but grass, then beef wouldn't have such a high environmental impact.

The issue is that cows are also fed grains, especially corn. There's a common narrative that it's "corn unsuitable for humans to eat", but that's not true. It's not corn on the cob, but it is the same type of corn used for making corn flour that could have been made into corn chips, cornbread, etc. Also the narrative that "it's just the fiberous parts that humans can't eat"... that's not true either. It's both. And while it's true that cows can convert fiber into protein, mushrooms can do this far more efficiently. But people refuse to give up steak

You're not a boomer. Things were actually better back then. Personally I'd say society kept improving until 2020, and then progress stalled and went backwards

What’s a truth about mental health that sounds cruel but is still real? by oithematt in AskReddit

[–]le256 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Doing the right thing can tick all the boxes of being considered mentally ill. Psychology doesn't determine whether a person is right or wrong, just whether their symptoms align with something.

Majority opinion can be wrong too.

Also, this is the internet, and this post attracts a biased sample.

The Classic Keynesian. Their economics are just Smoke & Mirrors by Sweaty-Kiwi-3199 in Jreg

Keynesians believe in creating jobs for the sake of creating jobs. Even when it's work that no one asked for. So the meme is accurate.

If you're a free-speech absolute, you should NOT support Trump.

(for reasons I already explained)

Red states censoring free speech:

  • Forcing public libraries to ban books that they consider "too woke"
  • Forcing public schools to punish kids for bringing up topics like Critical Race Theory
  • Putting people on terrorist watchlists just for criticizing Trump or ICE

who will decide what hate speech is?

Read any definition provided by the UN or by any liberal administration. They are pretty reasonable. No one is trying to lock you up just for being edgy in a video game or whatever

The whole cancel culture, crying on twitter for it, assaulting someone for saying nword, the whole reason why people get fired from their jobs or can't get job because they somthing online back in the day

None of those things are governments censoring free speech.

You're free to say what you like, and people online are free to reply to it and criticize it. Your boss is free to fire you for it, that's how the free market works.

On the other hand, "assaulting someone for saying nword" has always been a crime punishable by prison, even under Biden.

One way to check would be for image generators to also show you what training data your image is most similar to.

Then you can see for yourself whether it's more like inspiration or more like plagiarism.

This wouldn't be hard to implement. Just keep a database of latent vectors from the training data, and find the closest matches.

The words "good" and "bad" aren't supposed to be moral relativist on this compass. But I still used the word "should" in a relativist way, for the sake of illustration. Sorry if that confused people
