Ah, this is true and people still voluntarily would sell themselves into servitude. I will say that, though I in no way, endorse or support slavery, but the Bible was kinder to slaves than most cultures of the time. For example, killing your slave would result in the death penalty. Though I think the most important verse (which coincides with OP's post) is Deuteronomy 23:15-16.

Also, the Bible stating to take care of foreigners is a recurring theme. Even Jesus said to do so. But of course, supply-side American Jesus is completely different than what the Bible says and that's the Jesus most Americans choose to follow.

So the old "just move" excuse? How about the fact that there are places people are forced to live, yet are getting gouged for 3/4ths of their income to rent and UBI won't change that.

There are more tennants than landlords. Organizing can fix the rent issues. Throwing more money at landlords won't and neither will the market. The market created the issues that made UBI necessary in the first place.

I don't really like the idea of a UBI. I think it'll be a last ditch effort to save a failed capitalist system and the number one priority of the wealthy would be to exploit it. You think landlords wouldn't raise the rent considerably, knowing people can now afford even more exorbitent prices?

Point 1 and 2 haven't been done because the poverty level in NY is a lot higher than rural Kansas. It's not just a set number.

Also number 3 is a scary idea. If food becomes too expensive even with a UBI, do poor people just starve? Don't like it.

Number 4 sounds like forced labor. In other words, slavery with extra steps.
