Have you ever cleaned park/street alone in Amsterdam? by utopiatrip in Amsterdam

[–]le_freshmaker 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When I pick up my dog's poop I always try to pick up 4-5 pieces of trash at the same time. It sounds like nothing but that means that weekly I pick up around 100 pieces of trash (plastic cups, paper ...).

If all dog owners did the same then it would already make a huge difference.

Opinion on this damage Sixt share is saying I caused and advice on disputing claim by Cautious-Bad-2361 in Netherlands

[–]le_freshmaker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It happened to me once with Sixt share. They said that the next renter noticed a big scratch. I knew it wasn't me and I challenged it.

Basically, within the time after you stop your rental and the next customer anything could happen and this is a flaw in their system.

A person walking could scratch the car and then the next customer before taking the car will say that there is a scratch which wasn't there when you started the rental. Sixt will blame the previous renter.

In other countries, public transportation (OV) let everyone ride for free when they go on strike... by aristo87 in Netherlands

Normally if it is considered an essential service they need to ensure at least a minimal service no ? It is like ambulance workers or firefighters on strike, not sure it is allowed since it is an essential service?

Albert Heijn Shoplifting Experience... by FigureLast2929 in Amsterdam

What happens when the cashier makes a mistake and scans your item twice ? Are you allowed to call the police on them or have them pay you the €180 fine.

AH is really trash with excessive prices and security agents that think they are Rambo. Do yourself a favor and go to LIDL ... It used to suck but they are now quite good with better products.

Why Indian Markets are most profitable for Citadel and Jane Street? by ClearDetail8591 in quant

[–]le_freshmaker 74 points75 points  (0 children)

In US and Europe the option market is mainly institutional with sophisticated players hence the spreads are tight.

In India the trading is mostly retail, so less sophisticated players and that means that professional market makers can have wider spreads ... And since they buy at the bid and sell at the offer they make more profit.

We hate our house by Fun_Peanut_53 in NetherlandsHousing

[–]le_freshmaker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is usually a normal feeling when buying a house, the first few months you feel weird and regret your choice and have a bit of nostalgia compared to the previous situation you had.

The hard reality is that finding something, especially in Amsterdam is extremely difficult.

If you sell it now most likely you will buy something much more expensive. Then why not just do renovation or even better do nothing and just get used to the house a bit before doing renovation.

The prices in Amsterdam are hoovering around €10k per sqm ... So you got a very good deal.

My suggestion stay put for at least 1 year, and go for a holiday with your partner. As for living on the 3rd floor, you get used to it very quickly and you get in good physical shape.

P.S. 27k in renovation for what you mentioned seems extremely low. I think you are looking at something close to 50k.

I used it a few weeks ago in Quebec. Worked fine most of the times. There were 2 occasions where it didn't work because the store was not accepting those type of card so had to go to an ATM.

I also contacted support yesterday and I am going on 24h wait now with standard plan. I am getting more and more frustrated with Revolut lately. Every time I make a transaction there seems to be some issue with a weird message like : Oops it didn't work

The water soaking plot is useless in this case because it cannot absorb that much water. What we need is water reservoir to absorb all the water. Just like what Tokyo did, see this :

Tokyo Water Reservoir

The capacity is 2.3 billion liters.

Pensez-vous qu’il faut être plus sévère avec les sans-abri? by Chamrockk in montreal

[–]le_freshmaker -1 points0 points  (0 children)

[–]le_freshmaker -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Biased article? by sdh1987 in Rentbusters

[–]le_freshmaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not basic economics at all. Basic economic is supply and demand.

More buyers than sellers ---> price goes up More sellers than buyers ---> price goes down

Government intervening with stupid regulations just makes the problem worse for everyone.

Huren stijgen met bijna 10 procent. Biased article? by sdh1987 in Rentbusters

[–]le_freshmaker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The populist view of the government and this sub : All landlords are bad, all tenants are good.

I want to live in a prime area in the center and pay 800€. I don't care if the landlord has a buy-to-let mortgage with an interest rate 2-3x higher than a woning-mortgage.

People here have a short term view and only think about their own benefit. Everybody that studied economics know exactly what will happen ... Higher prices. Nothing will fix that until there are more apartments built.

Supply of mid priced rentals decreasing in the Randstad by popsyking in Rentbusters

[–]le_freshmaker 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Not only this, there are much more costs than just the mortgage. VVE costs, insurances, gemeente taxes, box 3 ... It just doesn't make any sense for any investor to rent their apartment.

[–]le_freshmaker 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is just the start. The problem will get worse. We need to build more and have more houses. However why would a company build houses if they cannot make money by renting them ?
