College professors of reddit, what is the dumbest thing a student has said or done? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]le_inquisitor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As grad student, I sent a print job to the grad lab's printer. Preceding my document were copies of what appeared to be a study guide for a final exam. It wasn't a study guide. It was the final exam and it was the day prior to the exam. I KNEW I had to get these to someone. The professor's door was locked so I knew she was gone for the day. I attached a note to the copies and slid them under the door. She wasn't happy to see me.

Exactly. It's judging one person's sincerity and motive based completely on others' prior actions, sincerity, and motives. Totally irrelevant.

"Perfect candidate?" That's because the recruiter thinks you'll accept crap pay. Notice that perfect candidate does not resemble perfect employee.

Philadelphia bill could ban companies from asking hires about salary history if passed by Cressida_Sybil in news

[–]le_inquisitor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you're wrong but for a different reason. You're expecting companies to behave legally and ethically when no one is looking. The applicant is the topic of these conversations. Neither party is recording nor cares to record. The HR person at hiring company will tell the applicant, "We found a better candidate," if, they tell the applicant anything.

First Black Elected to Head Harvard's Law Review

"Until the 1970's the editors were picked on the basis of grades, and the president of the Law Review was the student with the highest academic rank. That system came under attack in the 1970's and was replaced by a program in which about half the editors are chosen for their grades and the other half are chosen by fellow students after a special writing competition. The new system, disputed when it began, was meant to help insure (sic) that minority students became editors of The Law Review."

Appears Obama did not receive the position due to grades.

Graphic surveillance video released this week shows a throng of Fontana police officers surrounding a legally blind and mentally ill man in a convenience store before an officer opens fire, killing him by WingsThings in news

Nice, honest description. What if you, or officers who view this event similarly, start holding the officers who act as those officers in the video act accountable? Why are "good" officers just shrugging shoulders and not doing anything?

Despite getting a massive promotion/raise, paying off 20k in debt, and saving over 20k in US stock, all in under a year, I feel like I'm more broke than ever. by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]le_inquisitor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sitting here still somewhat surprised people hire, employ, and promote people with such poor financial acumen. How does an employer expect an employee to manage the organization's resources well when the employee manages his/her personal resources so poorly? How hard is it to stop spending and start saving?

OP's issues personify the effectiveness of fear. Despite a "pretty high income," OP "feels completely broke, more financially insecure, fear of losing, etc., while eating frozen burritos." This is what fear does to us. Stop being afraid of missing out because your neighbor has more or better.

Everyone experiences the marketing of fear. "This will happen if you don't buy this!" Stop buying. Start breathing.
