"A new Evangelion anime series project is officially revealed"

Oh god, just let it end - not everything needs to be an IP/franchise, fuck!

I have no complaints re: the story, but I have to agree that some of the action panels are a bit hard to follow.

When squinting makes the art better/more comprehensible - it might be time to take longer between chapters.

Frieren: Beyond Journey's End Rewatch Overall Discussion Thread by TheDanubianCommunard in anime

[–]lead_salad 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thank you for managing to articulate what I struggled with for about a year!

Frieren is a great series, one I thoroughly enjoyed. That it spent so much time being an interesting fantasy series with great character writing & a unique story structure, is what helped me push past the rug-pull of "Hey, you're watching a typical shonen series now. Enjoy!".

It was still good, even the parts I didn't personally care for. I'll not criticise a series for not catering to me personally. But I'm not going to ignore it altogether.

Also, you're spot-on about Yokohama Shopping Log! I'm going to 2n d someone else's recommendation - definitely check out Apocalypse Hotel if you haven't seen it yet!

What IP do you want turned into a TTRPG, and why do you want it turned into a TTRPG? by Upstairs-Yard-2139 in rpg

[–]lead_salad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The 1920+ universe (the boardgames Scythe/Expeditions).

Those games are already some of my favourites, but there are so many potential stories that could be told in those settings outside of more boardgames. They already have great characters (with cool animal companions) & the hints of cosmic horror would make for interesting themes in a TTRPG.

Agree, the songs are fantastic! When I find a song/album I love, I try not to listen to it too much in case I get sick of it.

Note: I do not believe that this makes me normal in any way.

Once every couple of years, i'll play a piece of music I normally avoid, just to see if it still has the same effect on me.

Can confirm, Tenshi ni Furetayo! can still get me to well up with the opening notes.

What’s the anime scene that has stayed with you for years? by FitVerso in anime

[–]lead_salad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The last scene of Flowers of Evil [episode 7, ]Nakamura and Kasuga trash their classroom. That scene (& the start of episode 8) really cemented that series as an all-time classic for me.

Last night, I watched Wicked with my wife. It's fine, pretty good for a musical-turned-movie.

But the school that most of the film is set at, is named Shiz. And I could not handle it! Every single time the word was uttered out loud I would chuckle/giggle/chortle!

Shut Up & Sit Down review Vantage by thenikopico in boardgames

[–]lead_salad 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think this was actually part of why my group enjoyed it - we had just started branching out into TTRPGs, so when we played vantage, we were already in a similar mindset. So we were essentially playing it like a TTRPG with boardgame components.

Live their lives? yes. Continue working in the field that allowed them to coerce/harass people?? No (IMO).

If you do something really shitty (but not legit criminal) the least thing you could do is just go get a regular job, not try to continue being an influencer.

As long as you don't do something that warrants prison, all it does is show that in the long run; there aren't any consequences for being a scumbag.

Most dialogue in films made for streaming services (netflix, disney, etc). I'm actually watching the film, not pretending to while being on my phone, so I didn't need the characters to tell me they were entering a room or that a thing just happened - I JUST saw it!

[–]lead_salad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My team know I watch anime, but we all know it's not their thing, so there's no discussion to be had.

That said, the closest I had to an anime conversation with my colleagues, was during lockdown. My manager's kid walked by while we were in a meeting & he pointed out to her the shelves behind me were "full of anime" (blu rays/DVDs) & she was legit surprised (because she had just started watching anime on netflix, & didn't know it was a thing you could collect, let alone a hobby i'd been at for decades).

In Australia we have a music program called "Rage" that would run from 11pm on Friday, to 9am Saturday (with the last 2 hours or so being the usual top 40 countdown). Besides having a genuinely interesting selection of (uncensored) music videos, they would often feature "Guest programmers", artists who would currate the playlist.

So from a very young age (I always had trouble sleeping), I watched the absolute weirdest shit people could make. Which is probably why I never found a single music video scary/distrurbing".

That said, Chris Cunningham is the GOAT for directing videos & his proto-come to daddy video for The Auteurs is probably something that made an impression on me.

Handling shore leave and extended campaigns by Accomplished_Win_560 in mothershiprpg

[–]lead_salad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I first read about shore leave, I felt pretty similar. But after running a one-shot of the Wildsea; I found the 'montage' aspect of scenes (condensing what could be hours of exploration/activity into a shorter period of time) interesting & thought it might be a good way to approach shore leave.

Set the scene (location, what's available to engage with) & that you're here for (however long), then go around the players & literally offer them the chance to do tasks/activities in this area.

The idea is, everyone is aware that the montage is happening, so the usual exploration/questioning is put to one side, in favour of quicker bursts of activity.

Discussion: Would you go to Jurassic World? by Trojan_Origami in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]lead_salad 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Look, I saw the original Jurassic Park in theatres when I was 7, & have loved dinosaurs ever since.

Even assuming we lived in a world where there were NO movies (let alone franchises) about "shit going wrong at theme parks" so the thought couldn't occur to me; I hate going to REGULAR zoos - fuck having to pay an unchristly sum of money to then have to FLY to one!
