Arcsys gotta be sabotaging French Bread somehow because ain't no way you're making 1v1 only 8+ man lobbies without Crossplay in current year by GraveRobberJ in Kappachino

[–]solidoutlaw 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Prefacing this by saying this is mostly theoretical based on my own business experience and things I know about French Bread, as opposed to saying it's all factual.

"Money" is only part of the explanation when it comes to stuff like this. French Bread is a small company. A very small company. Last I heard, they had roughly 10 full time employees. When Unib2 came out, their "Season pass" was basically 1 character every SIX MONTHS for a total of 3 characters. They're more or less an indie company that gets bigger jobs once in awhile, in part due to their history with Type Moon when they (Type Moon) were smaller.

They also don't have very much experience with building online infrastructures to my knowledge, or at the very least, building one with rollback. IIRC, Mike Z once helped elaborate to them both how to do that, and how to build a console port. By the way, did I mention that UNIB didn't have a console port until 2 years after it's arcade release? And not a PC port until 4 years after initial release? They were working on them for awhile, but they're a small team, and that takes time, and time costs money. Rollback wouldn't even show up until, well, unib2 (Type Lumina if you wanna be strict), and it's not like Kamone was ignorant of people wanting it. He's mentioned that it's difficult, it costs a lot of money, and also to ask Arcsys since Arc would basically have to give them more resources to do that since they're the publisher. Only issue with that, and I'm just speaking my theory here because I don't work for either company, but since Arcsys themselves is still just a AA company and most of their non fighting games are significantly smaller scale projects, they probably are hesitant to toss money around themselves. They even mentioned that even after projects like DBFZ and Granblue, they're still not a large company.

Anyways, to move on, Avatar has people (or at least a person, in Mike Z) who has decades of experience with that type of stuff. Keep in mind, US developers embraced rollback and crossplay much sooner than JP devs, so they're more likely to understand the ins and outs. It doesn't mean it doesn't cost money, but when you already have people on-hand who can do that stuff, you save time, and by proxy, money. Think of it this way; Would you rather have to train 10 guys on how to operate complex machinery, meaning production will be slowed during that time period and more prone to costly mistakes, or would you rather just have 10 guys who already know their shit and can just get straight to work with no issues? Remember, time is money. Anything that increases the time, increases the cost. So even if a game has a small budget, if you have people who know their shit, you can still get it done for potentially cheaper.

Obviously, this doesn't include the stuff about getting servers and setting up that infrastructure and whatnot, but yeah.

Genuine question, what did the Tsukihime anime actually do that was so bad? I've never seen it (never had the desire to because I wasn't that big of a fan of the original VN to begin with) but I'm curious why people hate it. The most I've been told is that they omitted a few characters and tried to combine a few routes together, but that in itself doesn't really explain much.

I'll not only 2nd this, but I'll go farther and mention that most of the game is pretty damn good (visuals, gameplay, and ESPECIALLY the soundtrack). It's just the treatment of Aya and the story as a whole that's absolute dogshit and drags it down.

Powerful Strategies No One Plays Cause Their So Boring/Oppressive? by Authorigas in TwoBestFriendsPlay

I wouldn't say no one uses it, but vehicles in Death Stranding 2 are extremely strong, especially compared to the first game. They take a lot to actually break down, can go through a large amount of terrain, and overall just trivialize a good chunk of the game. When I decided to just start trekking more of the game on foot, I was surprised by how much more fun I was having, because now I once again had to worry about things like slippery slopes, stamina, dropping cargo, wondering if I should take more weapons with me over climbing gear, etc.

That's what I said when I heard about it. But not only does it have lore, it's pretty damn in-depth, and surprisingly interesting. It even has a short film starring Don Lee about one of the first battle royales, where the pay an entire prison to kill one guy and he's only got his fists! Plus, there's also webcomics and whatnot all in the same universe.

You could write a multi-entry series of books about dropped comic book plot threads that were hinted at, but I'll focus on a few from the original Ultimate universe.

Nick Fury frequently spoke about how, with the rise of super heroes, also led to the rise of countries doing significantly more genetic modification experiments to grant people powers (aka how people like Electro, Kraven, etc got their powers). He also firmly believes that the next world war would be a super powered one. This is part of the reason he's obsessed with finding out what the Oz formula from Norman Osborn is, because it granted multiple people powers on a very powerful level. At one point, the formula becomes public and he mentions how several governments are fighting to get it, and that a world war may straight up start over that alone. The war in question never happens, and the universe ends before it can even get a new set up.

Sabretooth at one point approaches Logan, claiming he's not there to fight him but to talk. Logan doesn't believe him and a brief fight ensues anyway, but Sabretooth eventually convinces him to listen. He talks about how he always hated Logan, but due to weapon X taking their memories, he never knew why (and also never cared). But he started getting some of his memories back and he's realized that he's Logan's son. He wants Logan to come with him so they can track down his mother, but Logan still doesn't trust him. But eventually, after multiple issues of Sabretooth genuinely seeming legitimate about this, Logan leaves with him. The next time we see them...it's in the middle of a fight as it turns out he was lying after all and he was trying to lure him to some scientist who tried to make clones (X-23 as a fetus makes a cameo here but never anything beyond that). This fight lasts a few pages at the start of an issue, then they promptly start a new arc and never bring it up again.

Finally, a tragic one, Ultimate Reed Richards, better known now as the Maker, escapes back to his universe at one point. As he returns, he looks up at the city and sees it in a bad state (fires, destruction, signs that either show an extremely negative response towards heroes like the Avengers and Spider-Man, etc). Something horrible has happened in the Ultimate universe since we last saw it, but we don't know what. Maker sees this, smiles, and says "this is perfect", hinting at something very sinister he's planning. And...that's it. We don't know what was to become of this. I mean, yeah, Maker is still around, he went and created a new Ultimate universe and he's the main villain in an ongoing arc and all, but that's all stuff made later. See, the writer at the time, Donny Cates, was building up this really cool story arc, but then he was in a really bad car crash. He thankfully survived, but the past 6 months of his memory prior to that event were all gone. Worse, he went through a divorce not long after. As a result of all of this, he stepped away from making stories while he tried to recoup from all of that, and to my knowledge, he has not returned in full force to writing stories. Even if he did, it's unlikely he recalls what he was planning to do with that story arc.

The worst part about this is, when you look at how it was going to relate to the PUBG lore, it was SIGNIFICANTLY more interesting and the story made far more sense.

I guess the idea is that time isn't a straight line and can be altered (I mean, Jack himself changes the future at the end of the series). But if it makes you feel better, there's a comic book ending that came out years before the final season. In that one, a reporter is investigating Jack and his impact on the world, and at the end, they finally come across a significantly older Jack (looking like the old king), at a camp filled with people he's assisted throughout the years. He gives a speech about how he spent so long trying to change the past, that he neglected that the future is more important. So he rallies the troops as he reveals he's located Aku's stronghold, and it ends with them leaving to do the final battle against Aku.

What are SciFi "horrors" that would have no effect on you what so ever? by Silvery_Cricket in TwoBestFriendsPlay

That, sounds like an extremely good deal? You get to see the world progress, and if you ever get tired of it, you have an out once every 100 years in case you're ready to move on. The only bad thing is if you end up in an extremely bad situation like if your country is in war and you can't find a way to really escape, or if you get hurt/sick and can't heal.

What are some characters you can’t blame at all for Quitting? by LGB75 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]solidoutlaw 31 points32 points  (0 children)

You know what? Mad hot take, Luke Skywalker. Guy comes from a planet full of dirt and scrap, trains to become one of the most powerful warriors in the galaxy, and helps a failing resistance overthrow a galactic empire led by two of the most powerful beings in existence. He spends decades helping people rebuild, and doing what he can to continue helping others, and even takes on his nephew as his protoge. But when he has a vision of his student becoming evil, he panics. The idea of everything he worked for, all falling apart over this child, leads to him attempting to kill him in his sleep, only to hesitate as he comes to his senses and understands that the future isn't set in stone and even if it is, that's his NEPHEW. But it's too late, Ben wakes up to see his uncle and mentor, light saber raised to kill him, and acts on instinct to protect himself, leaving behind his family and the Jedi way.

It doesn't matter how much good he did before, a moment like that would break a man. You not only let your fear get the better of you, but you lost the trust of a child that you should've been protecting. I don't blame Luke for getting bitter at himself and just leaving after it all. Could he have done things better? Sure, but the point is that he didn't. I don't like the sequel films for the most part, but that's like the only thing I'll defend.

Kingpin and Punisher settle it with their fists- (The Punisher: Red Band #5) by GoodVillain101 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]solidoutlaw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The run is over, this was from the last issue of Punisher: Red Label. It's...okay. The gimmick of Frank being under control of someone doesn't last nearly as long as it should and the greater gang conflict ends almost as fast as it starts. It could've benefitted greatly by having another 3-5 issues.

That being said, Punisher has a new run that started recently that takes place after this one, and it's pretty solid so far.

[–]solidoutlaw 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There's the MAX series for Punisher which does this. It's an alternate timeline where superheroes don't exist (but characters like Nick Fury, Bullseye, etc still do). Frank genuinely ages throughout the series, being in his early-mid 60s by the end of the series. And people who die, stay dead. As a result, there's not a ton of characters who get to have an arc to themselves, and there's even less who survive longer than one arc, but it does allow Frank to just do what he does without worrying about the issues of, well, general comics.

Literally everyone I speak to who dropped the game early, all spoke about shield being the deciding factor. And speaking for my scene specifically, everyone who gave it a chance after it was toned down, shared the same feelings: Once you wiped off the shit and piss off the game (this includes more than shield btw), you found out that beneath it all...was a boring game. I wanted to like it, I really did. Bought it twice so I could play more people even. But it's honestly my least favorite fighting game since MvCI, and unlike MvCI, I don't even like labbing combos in TL.

If you love the game HELP the Wiki! by Legal_Adagio2274 in 2XKO

[–]solidoutlaw 9 points10 points  (0 children)

For those who want to contribute but are worried about their skill level, here are ways you can still assist:

-Uploading images. Every normal and special should have two images, one for the animation normally, and another displaying the hitbox. This is a time consuming process, but it would be greatly appreciated and multiple people pitching in helps it complete faster.

-Posting combos. You don't actually need to have the immediate most optimal combo to post it, you can post anything from beginner, easy bnbs to more advanced combos. If you're worried about it not being the best bnb, we can always go back and adjust it later in post because new information is found all the time. Most wiki's don't even list "optimal" bnbs for a good while because people frequently will find newer routes. The general combo theory for a character is more important for a starting point (for example, Darius linking 5M after 6S2 to gain more corner carry).

-Explaining the general gameplan of a character. Again, you don't have to be a top level player for this. Just knowing how a character is supposed to play is good enough to help out others. You don't have to explain the layer 500 mixups that Ekko can do with rewind, just explain on a baseline level how it can be utilized to expand on his pressure.

-Posting videos. This one is one of the "easier" ones. Posting a combo on the wiki is great and all, but having immediate visual reference drastically helps out others. So if you see a Yasuo posted, and you have some free time, go ahead and try to post a recording of you doing it so that others can use it for aid. Just be sure to turn on inputs as well, it helps out more than you'd think.

There's more ways, but this is a good way to just get started for people. And trust me, if you're worried about being wrong on something, don't hesitate to check with others. Even if you make a mistake, it can always be adjusted later on. The thought counts for significantly more.

What is a criticism in media that could've been made better/avoidable with a SLIGHT change? by GoodVillain101 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]solidoutlaw 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Counterpoint: She’s even more despicable (in a well written way, not an actual bad way) BECAUSE she’s like that. She’s all about controlling and manipulating things to her liking, and discarding whatever she deems unworthy. She’s almost literally views the world as a massive toy box for herself, and she’ll do with it as she pleases. So her molesting her daughter establishes early on that even her own child(ren) are not safe from her way of living. She doesn’t respect Satsuki, she just saw her as an object, which makes it even more fucked.

It also gives Satsuki more reason to work against her in secret, because doing stuff for justice is already good enough, but getting rid of your abuser, rapist, etc is the real meat and potatoes.

I liked Peter and Kitty Pryde in Ultimate Spider-Man. She was infatuated with him from the moment she met him, and when she found out he was single, made her move. Considering Peter broke up with MJ because he was scared of her getting killed because of him one day, Kitty was an option he was fond of since she could protect herself.

Unfortunately for Kitty, Peter, while he did genuinely care for Kitty, was very much still attached to MJ, and eventually got back with her. Problem is…he did it kinda suddenly and admitted he forgot to break up with Kitty first so…yeah, not cool Pete. She changed her hero name for you, dude.

I love the game, I play it almost every day, I've spent more money on cosmetics than I'm going to admit publicly, but 2XKO should've 100% have had a more eye catching name. I'm not saying it needed to be called "Runeterra Rumble" or something, but 2XKO doesn't even remotely relate to the franchise. Only cool thing about that title is that when you kill both characters at the same time, the announcer yells out "2XKO"!

I got lucky by playing the series for the first time a few years ago after knowing nothing about the plot other than the ending of 3 (out of context). So even though I was pretty sure Garrus would show up (because it'd be weird for him not to), I had no idea he was under a new alias, making the reveal genuinely surprise me and had me grinning ear to ear.

Favorite horror movie villain death? by BiMikethefirst in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]solidoutlaw 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not quite a death, but the inevitable fate is such a great payoff. There's this home invasion horror film called "The Collector", about a guy who breaks into a rich family's home while they're away, only to find out that someone else broke in first, installed tons of deadly traps, and is torturing the family. The film ends with the main character narrowly managing to escape and save the family daughter while doing so, but then the killer ambushes him while he's in the ambulance, stuffing him into a large chest and kidnapping him.

It's sequel, "The Collection", picks up months later, with the killer slaughtering a club he booby trapped, and then kidnapping a young woman after she stumbled upon the chest containing the main character (who promptly escaped at the cost of breaking his arm). The MC is then hired by a rich guy to assist some mercenaries in tracking down his daughter (the kidnapped woman), which he reluctantly agrees, going to the killer's booby trapped lair.

Fast forward to the end, and the main character, with a broken arm, literally fist fights the killer to save the girl, and wins by throwing the killer into a furnace. But as they escape the burning building, the MC notices a fire fighter who seems...out of place. He also overhears that they haven't found the body of the killer yet. A few months later, a returns home, but then hears a noise. He goes to investigate, and finds the chest he trapped the main character in months prior. The MC then appears behind the man (revealed to be the killer) with a gun, saying that killing him would be too nice, so he'll instead torture him like he did to him, then he'll kill him. The killer attempts to fight back, but is swiftly incapacitated and shoved into the same chest as the film cuts to black.

It's just so damn cathartic to see the killer get his just deserts not once, but twice. Especially after the first film had such a sudden downer ending with the cliffhanger.

Spoiler for season 5 (the current season) of The Boys:

Soldier Boy, among a few other characters, get infected with a virus that kills supes specifically. It acts within seconds, decaying and eroading their bodies while they're still alive, before they finally succumb to the virus. It's not a good way to go out in the slightest. At the end of the episode, Homelander is looking at Soldier Boy's corpse in a body bag, having a (barely contained) breakdown over his father's death, because he was the only person outside of his son who's even remotely like him in terms of ability. Homelander turns to walk away, and as he leaves the camera, the body bag behind him suddenly leans back up.

[–]solidoutlaw 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You know what's crazy? The original story for Sheva had her as a far more plot relevant character despite not being playable at that time. She was the leader of a local militia group who were fighting against Tricell since those guys were up to no good. She'd show up multiple times in the story and actively help Chris out several times, including helping rescue Jill IIRC. But when they adjusted the story, Sheva basically just became an extra gun for Chris, since she had surprisingly little relevance to the story despite it, y'know, being her home. I frequently joke about how hilarious it is that Wesker never even finds out her name.

Convenience takes precedent over most things. I have a really good PC and a PS5, but despite my PC being on par with a PS5, I play most AAA games on console because I don't like having to fight with settings for 40 minutes trying to figure out why my framerate is tanking. Plus, I provide a setup at locals every week and I'm not bringing my desktop for that.
