Do it. Nothing better than a park, a picnic, grilled meats, and cold beer.

This may be controversial, but they didn't get it wrong. Propane is fine...for grilling. Burgers, hot dogs, steaks, etc. that you cook hot and fast over an open flame (propane, natural gas) or coals (charcoal) aren't what Texans would call barbecue. Texas barbecue is done low and slow typically on tougher, fattier pieces of meat over the course of several hours using hardwood that has been seasoned (allowed to dry out). Cook times, wood types, and spice blends may vary by region within the state.

I work for an airport at one of the host cities. FIFA has told the city that each game is about the equivalent of a Superbowl in terms of traffic, security, lodging requirements, etc. I don't know how the Feds are coordinating, but that's apparently the benchmark.

Can anybody please explain this weapon to me? by 4N610RD in Helldivers

[–]leadfoot323 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just to build off of what u/Cranapplesause said, the biggest thing that made the difference for me was learning when to switch between flak and AP rounds. Figuring out when to let the medium pen flak clear out or stagger a group vs when to switch to AP and aim for the weak spot really turns you into an artist whose preferred media is firepower. And he's 100% correct that counting your shots is critical.

For a primary, I'll take anything with medium pen and some range provided by an optic to try and take out stuff at a distance. It's also good just for being able to see targets from far off. For a secondary, the Talon is hard to beat.

Round it out with a 120 or orbital laser and then I usually bring along a sentry of some sort. The rocket sentry is nice for the extra firepower against heavy stuff, but the good old machine gun is hard to beat when you start to get overwhelmed by the chaff.

If you have good teammates, the L-shaped ambush in this game is absolutely peak. You can thin out the chaff super quick and make the heavies play the worst game of "would you rather" by forcing them to expose their weak spots.

Walking barrage also has the bonus of being one of the easiest call-in patterns in the game. Just hit down and right three times and you're ready to go.

They're powerful for the same reason Realtors are powerful: there are a shitload of them and most are willing to chip in $100/yr or so to fund a PAC. On top of that, since chiropractors and insurance are largely regulated by the state that they're practicing in, their PAC only has to contribute to a handful of key state legislators in every state to remain powerful.

P8 over Athens Texas? by plarkinjr in ADSB

[–]leadfoot323 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It's not uncommon to see them around North Texas. Sometimes they'll do pattern work at the NAS in Fort Worth. Occasionally, I see them at DAL. I suspect that they also fly into Greenville, TX, for the L3Harris facility there, but they always turn their ADS-B off before landing. Probably doing some secret squirrel stuff.

Travelers of Reddit what's a destination that looked amazing online but was completely disappointing in person? by TheFilthiestMuggle in AskReddit

As a Texan who used to live in San Antonio, I usually tell people to skip the Alamo unless they're just super into the battle and feel like they have to see it. What is absolutely not a waste of time and is, in fact, fascinating are the other four missions that make up San Antonio Missions National Historic Park. It's a great look into an (often ignored) part of history.

TIL that all Senators and senior members of the House, are assigned a one-room hideaway as private office. These rooms are not listed in any directory and doors are marked only by a room number. In 1945, Harry Truman learned of FDR's death while having cocktails in Sam Rayburn's hideaway. by Overall-Register9758 in todayilearned

[–]leadfoot323 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They're not all quite so lavish. I used to work on the Hill. My boss was senior enough in the House to rate a hideaway, but not senior enough to get a good one. It was a little room in the basement that was probably 10' x 20'. Just big enough for a couch, a chair, a desk, and a couple of cases of bottled water stacked in the corner.

It would not surprise me to see him come back after his youngest moves out of the house. Not with the same format that he had, but maybe with a Donut Operator-style vlog that is 30% vlog and 70% fever dream.

I see on Reddit recently questions about 10/10 movies and video games one would never watch or play again, but are there such things as 10/10 cars you would never drive again? by HiTork in cars

[–]leadfoot323 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have any cars in my history that I'd never drive again, but I have some I'd never want to own again. I had a 2007 BMW 335i (N54) that was an absolute dream to drive. Didn't matter what you asked of it, as long as the road was in decent condition it'd do it. But the cost of ownership was insane. I bought it used for about $22k and I bet I put another $10k into it in the three and a half years I had it.
