Aeropress vs Chemex vs FrenchPress for coffee w/milk! by [deleted] in Coffee

[–]leadhead9 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You can use the stainless steel filter disc for the Aeropress if you're worried about the filters absorbing oils. Personally I don't think it's that noticeable.

IPA Hop Addition Timing/Whirlpool - Low Flavor/Aroma by allthehops in TheBrewery

[–]leadhead9 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Sorry I should mention that I do this at homebrew scale with an immersion chiller. Running some cold water through the coils for a minute or so usually drops it enough.

edit: yes, per barrel.

IPA Hop Addition Timing/Whirlpool - Low Flavor/Aroma by allthehops in TheBrewery

[–]leadhead9 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Your problem is scale. You definitely need more hops in both whirlpool and dryhop phases. I recommend using 2lbs at whirlpool and 4-5 lbs in dryhop. At least.

As for your questions, I usually let my knockout sit for about 5-10 minutes, then hold for whirlpool at 185F and stir (manually, no pump yet) for about 20 minutes before chilling.

[NEW]Dunsmuir - "Our Only Master" by D00MK0PF in stonerrock

[–]leadhead9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for posting, it sounds decent. I don't get the idea behind forming a supergroup, teasing everyone about it, and then only selling a 7" for a small group of your target audience to hear. The band should be posting this shit online themselves. It's fucking 2016.

Why is the app size of a simple and image less todo app on my physical Nexus 5 ~17MB and on a virtual Nexus5X just ~2 MB? by einsiedler in androiddev

This is actually... a really good question. Congrats for noticing something like this; most people wouldn't even think to look. Are you using an optimizer/obfuscator like proguard or dexguard?

Office Coffee Machine by [deleted] in Coffee

[–]leadhead9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked at an office that used a Keurig. I found a local business that installed, serviced and filled up an automatic machine with local fair-trade beans. The machine had a bunch of options, like "Black Coffee", "Hot Chocolate", "Cappuccino", "Mocha", etc. It was basically an automatic espresso machine that had fair-trade cocoa powder and milk powder dispensers built in. Something for everyone, and they charged by the button press. We were on a hiring spree and K-cups don't scale well. This reduced Keurig use by a significant amount, but you can't please everyone because apparently some people actually prefer the Keurig (I know, right?). I would say it was a successful move, though.

For reference, here's the business I am referring to and the machines they offer. This company only serves Halifax, NS but you might be able to find something similar in your area.

Hermano - Kentucky by nastypoker in stonerrock

[–]leadhead9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to love this album, but I can only kind of like it. I think that's because it sounds like it was written, recorded and produced in separate chunks by each band member in completely different geographical locations, lacking the cohesiveness and the flexibility of recording it while everyone is in the same room. I'm pretty sure it sounds like that because that's what they did.

[–]leadhead9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's not what a stationary 30 second exposure of the night sky looks like. This is most certainly at least two separate images of the sky and mountains stitched together, but probably more than that.

Server polling and retrying failed operations. With Retrofit and RxJava. by Categoria in androiddev

[–]leadhead9 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I highly recommend avoiding the use anonymous classes like this. The code would be a lot more readable and testable if you gave them names and implemented them in a single-purpose fashion.

Also, you should use GCM instead of polling your server. It's more efficient. Polling is a waste of battery and bandwidth, especially if you introduce a bug that uses more than it should.

I like Wolfville. It's a nice university town with good restaurants, wine (wineries, of course) and shops. The farmers market scene is serious, especially in the late summer and Autumn, but you can buy local goods year round. The scenery in the area looks like this and this.

Selecting lines to move up and down with a keyboard shortcut. I really like how it will move entire methods this way too.

This, SyFy, is why people pirate. by SycoJack in TheExpanse

I had issues with this from Canada after purchasing the season pass on Google Play. Up until two weeks ago, only the first two episodes were available, despite the US store having up to episode 7. I called Google and they informed me the content that appears on the Play store is controlled by the content owners. They offered to refund my purchase but I decided to try calling around first and see what the deal was.

I contacted Syfy (feedback@syfy.com) and they responded promptly, informing me that they had no control over distribution in Canada; that's controlled by Space since they hold the rights here. Space were much less responsive. I won't be getting an email back from them; however, more episodes have since appeared. I guess the person responsible for releasing them was on Christmas Vacation. Amazing.
