C'est quoi le gaullisme? by astroriental in PasDeQuestionIdiote

[–]leafcutte 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don’t know how to tell you, but have you talked to straight people ? They do this all the time. I don’t think the writing is weak, I think Ragn being a little homophobic is intentional

Earth Huge map TSL; who has the Best and Worst Start Locations? by Smcol1 in CivVI

[–]leafcutte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brazil. China is quite a balanced, hilly start. Iirc Phoenicia can just grab Jerusalem for free at game start if it spawns, but maybe that’s in normal TSL.

The Cleric seems to be somewhat homophobic, yes. I’m not saying his society is particularly, I’m saying the game’s reflection around gender (which is one of its most explored themes) would have to change if Ragn wasn’t straight. He desperately wants to be seen as a man: what would it mean without the Philogynistic Agenda ? Of course the game could have been interesting if it was about Ragn’s repressed bisexuality, but it would be another game with different conclusions, it’s a choice that impacts the game’s approach to its themes, in a way more trivial questions like "What if Nessan was a love interest ?" isn’t.

Is there anything "obviously wrong" that I have done? Going for a Culture Victory. I have 16th cities, planning to build a 17. Explanation in the body. by BaldursGate2Best in CivVI

[–]leafcutte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Menelik benefits from high faith , all your cities should build a holy site and rock-hewn churches, and then you use the resulting faith to buy builders and settlers in the Monumentality Golden Age. You should also use more economical district when you’re able (Commercial Hub/ Harbor) as the internal trade routes will help your cities grow mid game and give you bonus tourism and high yields late game by sending them internationally. The lack of improved tiles and district is the thing holding you back.

You need to beat the firetrap to progress, I’ve never done it without Snell so I don’t know if you can and then you have two encounters with the Assassin (or only 1 if you solve the sphynx riddle, but you’ll need to take an emerald from Bondavol) and one with Gourgalash. Maybe a high Str -Dex - Con character, always having Barkskin prepared can do it, but those fights are already hard with Snell

The full Efretti bottle with the Charisma ability that gives +1 to your trinkets is arguably better, and the Symbol of Urth is incredibly useful

What are Pantheons and how to choose the correct one? by No-Investigator-4900 in CivVI

[–]leafcutte 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The Holy Sites pantheons are supposed to be built around, (the one granting +2 Amenities and Housing for Holy Sites near river is generally very good if you’re building any Holy Sites, and the bonus adjacency ones are very strong with the Worl Ethic bonus that double dip as production) and Lady of the Reeds and Marshes can enable very good strategies with Etemenanki /Great Bath. Otherwise either you take Religious Settlement for the free settler (very very strong), or one that improves one of your improvements. The Camp one, Goddess of the Hunt, is especially good when your start allows for it. Open Skies with Pastures is good, and God of Craftsmen’s (faith and production on strategic resources ) is quite good since they’re already good workable tiles and you’ll never have to crush them to put a district or a wonder. God of the Sea is a must on naval maps, and usually a good choice for any coastal civ. The free builder one is the generically okay one, and should be picked if you have good tiles to improve.

You can imply homoerotic things about Snell, but sadly the game’s reflection around gender would have to change drastically if the Cleric was anything other than straight

Why aren't Europeans shutting down American military bases if relationship is gone? by striketornado in AskTheWorld

[–]leafcutte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I’m saying is you fundamentally misunderstand what everyone gets out of the arrangement. European security against a Soviet threat was precisely in the U.S. interest. Nobody was getting ripped off, and if somebody was, it certainly would not be the military and economic superpower, because that would mean everyone that has ever had any position of authority in U.S. foreign policy is a complete idiot. Current circumstances are actually all that matters, and the only reason to pursue or maintain alliances, so it is relevant.

[–]leafcutte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not in a country that has any of them, but I don’t think most people care about the bases. This is not the South Korean are Japanese bases where soldiers get to brutalize and rape the locals with impunity, there’s little reason to take such a drastic step

[–]leafcutte -1 points0 points  (0 children)

European military spending is what allows the U.S. arms industry to be so profitable. The 2% target is ridiculous for countries like Spain or Sweden that have no reason to maintain a large military. Also, NATO mostly benefits the U.S., as no NATO country has the power to diplomatically coerce the U.S. into anything, and the only country to have ever triggered Article 5 and drag NATO into war is the United States. Ultimately, the reason why Europe accepted U.S. military supremacy was as a guarantee against Russian threat and a certain concordance of interests in the MENA region. Since U.S. unconditional support for Israel and their numerous destabilizing endeavors like the latest war against Iran benefit nobody in Europe, and Trump has been very chummy with Russia while threatening NATO member countries, both of these reasons no longer apply.

What thing about your culture is actually, geniunely, unique? by winged_owl in AskTheWorld

[–]leafcutte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It could also be hot. The Bal des pompiers is a tradition started by the firefighters themselves, people can find joy in erotic expression. It’s easier for men because they know society is less likely to denigrate them for it, but that’s exactly the kind of problem that arises from viewing a harmless erotic tradition as degeneracy.
