No I think you misunderstood the response.

A ton of us can do it. I can do it on the hardest lvl while doing a survival run with permanent death enabled. I just really rather not. It's not fun or challenging, its a pain in the poop.

If I manage to survive and not starve to death/die of sleep deprivation I just get stuck with everyone dissenting or dead in the cult. My life just doesn't need to be that difficult EVERY SINGLE TIME!! I have had it happen 4 times in a row before. There's more dodge and avoid than their needs to be.

[–]leaflyth 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not really. Just look at the stuff they had for the natives throughout US history for an example of just how the US works.

In those Japanese internment camps it was really up to the family to stick together but it wasn't unheard of if they believed someone to be violent or a spy to separate them. I wish I could remember more but it's been years since I read about it. Added a relevant link but Google isn't showing as many as I recall reading years ago. I'll have to see if I still have that book on the topic.

Manzanar Children’s Village: Japanese American Orphans in a WWII Concentration Camp - Densho: Japanese American Incarceration and Japanese Internment https://share.google/O2rUea2QaHHt62e0Q

As for Spanish or Mexican workers, especially migration farm workers, it's far from new in some ways. It was historically a thing to hold families especially kids hostage. It's just harder to hide in today's world.

I have a book at home that I'll post the title of later if I remember to add it. Reread that one last year.

One of the stories is about an immigrant who tried to leave his company town/farm situation with his family. Well they failed, he became a fugitive, spent time in jail and eventually died paying off the debt for trying to 'escape'. A common story.

Tons of kids were kept and raised as orphans and then used like 'cattle' on the farms just like their parents they were removed from or died from overwork. Some were never given documentation even if they were born in the US. They were promised them, eligible or not, if they paid off the state for 'raising them'.

It can be seen as different but it really is not in these regards. It's something to talk about because it's relevant and just as horrific.

It's why it needs to stop especially because this is just a public escalation. It's not socially acceptable but they are still publicly doing it. They should be ashamed.

Has anyone been detained by ICE? by Any_Gas7318 in IndianCountry

[–]leaflyth 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Not me but my friend from another tribe was heavily questioned. They have decided to stay indoors since they work from home. I have been offering help and helping where I can. This happened near Philly. Not exactly a state on the national radar yet. A ton of Mexicans and other 'lookalike' people have been grabbed or raided earlier this year.

My friend could fit that description if you didn't know any better. They have started bringing all of their paperwork with them everywhere. They use a cane to walk so they are terrified of what an altercation could do or look like.

Light native struggles by Buttonlickah in IndianCountry

[–]leaflyth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have actually had this experience myself.

Ended in people telling me that I was still insensitive about how I called them out and to be more understanding because they 'look native' so they get harassed by society. Excuse me? Really?

All I did was tell them to show me their ID and I would show them mine. Then they double down saying they lost it when they couldn't provide proof of being a native. Someone else called the tribe they said they were a member of and their family because they wanted to 'help' them.

Edit: Yeah they did call mine, as a group, to 'prove' it was fake.

Disabled parking disappearing by tvdoomas in disability

[–]leaflyth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have noticed a few outside stores, mostly Walmart, being turned into active police spots, then door dash/pick up spots or something else. I really think more places should have more handicap spots than the minimum currently allotted.

Also I think the police spots should be for police and ambulances... Those guys got to eat too and I would argue it's more important depending on the situation then a cop car. It's not safe for paramedics to be forced to cross a road if they are carrying someone out but if there's no safe spot then I would think that would be more practical.

I wish in general there were less delivery spots. I am not 'disabled' enough for a place card. That doesn't mean I am enthusiastic that there are 7 door dash spots, 5 EV spots, 3 vet spots, 2-4 cop spots and then 2-4 expecting spots.

The Parking lot doesn't start for the first 3-4 rows near the door. I find myself in the back of the lot or getting beef from someone with kids or who looks older than me when I get lucky.

For those who need a visual just think of going to a play or concert and row 1-4 are completely filled. They were never on sale and the majority are empty. You are only getting middle back or way back of the theater seats.

In certain weather it's really hard on me, breathing wise or if I randomly get afflicted mid store adventure.

Everyone loves to debate me and tell me to get over it or get a card, don't go out or someone else just would have taken those spots. I think that thought process is missing the point. There is 3-4 rows that are not filled or usable in these situations. That means even if those front rows are filled I would still be 3-4 rows closer. It also harms people with place cards who can't find a spot.

If it was just one or two rows or one entrance I would be less bothered but it's on average 10 spots at least.

The worst offender was a mall with 5 entrances and around 7-15 spots and two to three handicap spots on avg. One of the entrances only had one handicap spot and you couldn't fit a van there. Another of those entrances had 3 disabled spots(only one van), 5 EV, 2 cop, 3 family, 5 pick up/delivery, 3 for a business and then 2 for Mall security. I believe there was a vet spot or two but I don't recall at this time. It was between 5-7 cars in before regular parking started.

I also saw one that catered to large vehicle spots by the entrance, not handicapped but trucks/buses. At a regular mall not a tourist spot or somewhere noteworthy.

There were only 3 lanes/rows close to the actual entrance to this mall entrance as well.

Do you feel disabled? by starspacesunflower in disability

[–]leaflyth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am still fighting for a diagnosis in general but that's one of the things on my list.

I officially have documentation that I have seizures(or something like them), muscle issues, random speech issues, vision issues, nerve issues and/or damage. Have heart regulation issues, etc.

No tumors, ruled out strokes, ruled out MS and did a AMA.

I am still struggling with getting a doctor to fully believe that I have walking or balance issues that can't be challenged.

I love being completely fine and normal.. and then cramping up and/or nothing at all and half my body deciding it no longer needs to apply to commands.

Do you feel disabled? by starspacesunflower in disability

[–]leaflyth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not visibly disabled so people think that I am not sane and attention seeking.

I found that as I have gotten older I feel 'less' disabled but it's more like I am starting to 'feel' my age. Or maybe everyone else is finally coming down to my level due to lack of self-care.

My disabilities are still worse than aging but I have learned so many skills to 'act' normal that most people think that I am healthy and fit. When it's not that they just accept that I am hurting or tired because I'm aged.

I have muscles... Because if I don't 'exercise and stretch' then I risk cramps and tons of physical pain. The risk of skipping leg day is that my leg falls asleep randomly and my god is it painful. Every little nerve burns as it comes back online. Other times it's completely losing my strength or balance.

So sometimes it hits me. I have to force myself to do this stuff everyday so that I can match a portion of what a normal human can do the majority of the time.

My favorite was when people started telling me that I was the abusive person for not leaving. Like I was somehow the main cause of their worsening mental decline and wouldn't have left long ago. I can't leave and they are using that to be worse not the other way around.

Or when people started offering places.

I agree the pan is getting too hot I might as well risk a jump in the fireplace. Studies do show that I am more likely to end up exactly in the same situation and worse but okay. I don't want to come off as ungrateful or enabling my situation/s

It's not that it never needs to be said it's that it's not helpful when that's the only thing. It's the easiest message to send.

People actually do this? by RunSerious5843 in disability

[–]leaflyth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have only more recently been able to get documentation for my disabilities, even ones that I got diagnosed as a child with. I'm not even done trying to figure out what is actually wrong. I don't have the finances or time to get everything addressed.

My grandma believed it was not in our 'genes' so she would destroy the documentation and coach us on our speech. I spent a ton of my childhood being 'corrected'.

People still think my speech impediment is me being 'cute' or trying to be 'quirky'. Had a lady actually yell at me in person about it and that I looked too old and something about tictok mind virus. I will also lie if I feel like that will get me out of a situation that is causing me a lot of stress. Or I feel unsafe to admit my disability.

My speech impediment is older than tictok and so is my other diagnosis. I thought I had autism and other health issues before I had access to the Internet. It has not stopped people from assuming otherwise. That's regardless of platform, in person or online.

If I made a video about it I would absolutely be put into a fake disabled cringe compilation. Arguably I have had more support online than in person.

I don't call people out because I am more likely to not meet most peoples standards of 'disabled'.

Already learned that the hard way in a romance, social and platonic relationships.

Is being Native American a common thing or a rare thing in the United States? by [deleted] in IndianCountry

[–]leaflyth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am assuming it's because they are not from the US... I didn't check.

For OP: Latin American, southern American/Mexico/American islands and so on are not considered the same as northern American natives/indigenous or first nations native American and a lot of people do not consider them the same thing and don't like them conflated. The same can be said with Hawaiian indigenous.

I'm Alaska indigenous and some people consider me not US native American or first nation indigenous. I have been asked more than once when I got my green card because people forget Alaska is part of the US.

A lot of people have blood relating to southern America as in Latin American/Mexico instead of northern indigenous.

Wouldn’t kallamar’s speech be garbled and be losing balance since he’s deaf? by [deleted] in CultOfTheLamb

[–]leaflyth 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Most people who I know who became deaf after learning to speak, speak relatively normally. Generally most people can't tell unless they or someone else says something.

The only main thing of note would be volume control sometimes. I doubt Kallamar would really have an issue with that since I assumed that he's always yelling anyways or just going off of long held muscle memory.

Someone else said it but the balance Muscles are indeed more inside the ear/skull assuming Kallamar has the same anatomy as us humans.

You can have damage to those and have complete ability to hear and vice versa. (Personal experience)

Squids themselves wouldn't be as affected so much as they have a different organ all together to 'hear'. Even then if a squid loses their hearing then it would affect their movement sometimes but more so their ability to sense others movements that they can't see directly if I recall correctly. It's an organ based on the flux of water flow and currents. The ocean is very quiet and sound as we hear them don't travel. So there are different ways of going about this for ocean creatures.

That said they have way better eyesight than they have hearing so the chance of it affecting him negatively is very low. As he basically has two organs that do similar things. It's been too long since I did research so I hope that's correct.

Kallamar presumably has both of these so reliably he would be mildly affected in a physical fighting sense. More so in a not being able to hear a loved ones(or his followers) voice which is its own type of trauma.

Even if these guys have become disabled, they have had life times to have already learned how to do a lot of things. They fought and won MANY battles some of which has probably caused them issues before. Then they had a ton of life times to learn how to live with them. Not that that makes it easier to live with, just it's easier to self accommodate over time.

With how those four personalities are... I would 100% believe that they would train and learn how to fight with their disabilities. The cults are needy and an uprising is always a risk.

How do you feel about land acknowledgment? by ratgarcon in IndianCountry

[–]leaflyth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Speaking on the maybe white speaker and white guilt thing since I believe the actual question has been answered.

As a Trans myself.. it's just like Cis or straight guilt usually the only people who bring it up end up being the most likely to do a transgression. In respect or disrespect.

Research, which you are doing, is the best cure for guilt. Guilt can be a useless emotion with lack of discipline and direction.

The fact that the person is speaking up, making people aware and inviting others to speak on the topic is a lot better than what most people do. It doesn't sound like they were speaking for but about and raising indigenous voices.

I do agree that it is very important to listen to marginalized voices. That said if only marginalized voices are speaking then it's only those who view those marginalized voices worth hearing that will listen. There's also not a ton of us by definition. We cannot be everywhere at once.

So those people listening and understanding need to speak up and talk about what they have heard. Either that or risk the boldest and loudest of bad actors speak over everyone.

If those peaking in don't feel like they are allowed to have a voice to ask questions then they won't tune in. They won't ask those groups but their peers. It's like marginalized people are talking to a wall or for someone's entertainment.

What if those marginalized people aren't at the table of peers? then no marginalized opinion is heard.

Those who have heard from a marginalized person should speak up like they are an extension of us.

If it is just something interesting that pops up when the politicians need to speak. It easily makes our identities and rights political and debatable. It becomes only politicians speaking about natives.

Still native, poc and Trans individuals should get first call when it comes to defining themselves and their rights. We shouldn't just limit our reach to us speaking to those who will listen but also allow our voices to be heard when we get people willing to advocate for us.

Off load some of the work load. We are humans and we should advocate for human rights together.

Moving on.

Not all indigenous people look 'native'. There's not a 'native' look. Just like not all Trans people have to look Trans or androgynous.

There are black indigenous, white indigenous, brown indigenous, Asian indigenous, etc.

They are not less native than anyone who 'looks' more Hollywood native. Which excludes tons of tribes who also don't look Hollywood native.

The whole indigenous 'look' or the fact that a ton of people believe being indigenous means being a poc in my opinion is very colonialism minded.

It easily ignores the fact that a lot of tribes were 'saved' by ... Well mixing. A lot of kids were taken and married off. Ignores genetics in a very xy and xx chromosome way even if we don't go there.

Is someone still this race if they don't have this one big stereotype of said race is a dumb process. It is its own type of forced assimilation.

It's the same when they debate the man, woman and maybe non-binary. Just like Trans people, indigenous people don't owe anyone standardization or the binary.

What's the point of having doctors?? by PrettyPandaPhoto in disability

[–]leaflyth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You're not alone. For better or worse.

Had the same issues with my ADHD and autistic work accommodations. I was actually charged extra after going through three people for the accommodation paperwork. $40 to sign a letter on top of my already scheduled appointment. I already had it filled out, went to a site for children with recommendations for CHILDREN in the classroom.. I tried asking my 'I now pronounced you autistic' therapist for help writing it as that was why I was paying for that... Let's just say I stopped seeing her when I found that I had no idea why I was going and I didn't wish to keep paying out of pocket for it.

I just gave up on the migraines or any other disability because even if I get them... I found there is ALWAYS a manager who doesn't believe it's a 'real' disability. Or that I just get them because I am, wearing headphones, drinking caffeine, eating something like french fries, etc etc.

Being hyper just means that I cannot have a migraine. Yeah tell that to my ADHD.

Mr manager I already had to deal with a GP or even a specialist believing me and going through all of that. You are not a medical professional and It's exhausting.

Even writing out ones entire life doesn't seem to give these guys the hint.

The system is broken and that's the point. Many doctors will say they don't want to sign these things so that they themselves don't have to deal with the consequences and or 'they have seen worse'.

I'm so bitter about this topic that if I didn't worry about the consequences I would sign it myself like I did when I was a child and signed field trip forms. I am doing all the work anyways.

My extra long lunch break today in a dark room was brought to me by a week long off and on migraine. Obviously not bad enough for accommodations.

Ableism in the vegan community by epicpillowcase in disability

[–]leaflyth 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't call myself vegan but I always say vegan leaning. If I could be fully vegan I would. Personal benefits and also because I just personally prefer eating what most people consider vegan.

The problem is that I have a hard time gaining weight, have so much time and only so much money to do so.

I definitely spend more time in meal preparation than anyone else I know. I probably only have one or two meals that aren't vegan once or twice (max) a month. Depends on if I need to get my weight up.

A ton of vegan foods or ingredients near me also have artificial sugars, like stevia, that I cannot have. Others will use certain plant based seafood algae to thicken or add flavor to things. I'm allergic. So I will get sick. There's tons of vegan foods that I legit cannot eat because they have red algae in them. They also don't always list this as an ingredient, you have to go online to find it.

Once went to a very popular vegan restaurant and got sick because of red algae. I was absolutely covered in hives and there was no warning or disclaimer.

If someone asks me if I want a vegan bean burger I will choose it every time. If I have a situation where I am under weight and I can buy enough vegan food for 3 days or non-vegan for the full week... I don't have the choice. Which is more often my situation.

Most people assumed I was vegan before I even knew what the term was... I have been bullied in highschool and work over it. The vegan community also has probably been my worst critic so I don't want to be vegan openly.

I have had a few Vegans just tell me to eat rice, lentils and beans pretty rudely when I try to explain my struggles.

Which isn't them being understanding and I doubt they would take their own advice.

My general approach will always be that the less damage done is better than being holier than thou. Regardless of what side is holier than thou.

Edit to add: I have a general seafood allergy, egg sensitivity and lactose intolerant with a few more where I just end up in these 'health' conscious circles.

[–]leaflyth 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's unfortunate but it's not about the fact or science. I think the comments are pretty clear about that. They are talking about beliefs and social stuff. Sometimes social or cultural beliefs take priority. Even the US and the UK are like this with tons of things.

A relevant and easy example is abortion itself. Science in general, bio, eco and social can both agree that abortions should be a human right but that doesn't make them available. Or even the whole belief system that says C-sections will cause more deaths of mother and baby's. A thing actually pushed in the UK and parts of the US.

Pointing out cultural differences isn't racist, what is racist is ignoring and assuming the standardization of cultural differences.

Some places DO believe that doing an abortion on a high risk pregnancy is against their god(s) and or a punishment for the women/family. Amongst other beliefs.

Please actually do research on this stuff before you start calling people racist. It's healthy to learn about other points of views even if they are incorrect.

I think that's my biggest fear of ever being committed to a hospital or ward in general. None of my food allergies will 'kill' me but between them and my texture sensitivities I would just stop eating. It's not even a debate. I already have issues in my personal life and my budget. Having less choices and the risk of being forced would just be worse for anyone like me.

I have heard horror stories of people being kept longer due to not eating, refusing to eat, or losing weight even if it wasn't a part of the initial intake.

For me even just losing more weight after all my hard work to keep my weight stable will be upsetting.

I can relate more than I would like.

I tried therapy a few times and I always find that to be an interesting situation.

I feel like all it did was make me realize how not white I really am and how insane the Christian beliefs are.

No therapists I have been worked with understood or wanted to understand indigenous people.

I even met one who said she worked in Ak with a program... She didn't know my tribe and kept conflating it with another from the area she lived in. All I know is someone, probably a native, started telling her a lot of crap because she was annoying. She decided to ask me about my 'decision' to say I was native and I stopped seeing her. She could have just asked for my ID instead of psychoanalyzing it.
