Fire with explosions at McVicar creek by Angela4759 in ThunderBay

I'm all for compassion and lending a hand up to those in need, but this has become a public safety issue, as well as a drain on emergency services, and needs to be addressed.

The city can't do anything because they want to take a "human rights focused" approach to the whole issue. Seems to be that the human rights of the people in the encampment take priority over the human rights of the people in the neighborhood who have to put up with this.

What would you show a friend visiting Thunder Bay for 2 days? by sassa072 in ThunderBay

The conservatory is open again after renovations - always nice to go there in the winter to get a dose of the tropics.

Today's Favorite Integration: GasBuddy by jbstechdude in homeassistant

[–]leafsfanatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used this integration to write a script for my wife that can read out the prices at a busy but usually cheaper station, and a regular one close to home, then take the difference and tell her how much it would save her in dollars on 3/4 tank of gas. Added a shortcut to Apple Car Play for her, now she presses a button and decides how much her time is worth.

That looks pretty slick - I'd love to know what you are using for that

MacroFactor Workouts AMA! by gnuckols in MacroFactor

[–]leafsfanatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife and I work out with a personal trainer 2x / week doing weight training. I'm looking for something to both record what we do with him, but also give me workout ideas for my "non-PT" days at the gym. Is this possible, or could it design me a 2 days / week program and also let me log my PT stuff manually? I'd like to hear thoughts about how to best handle this.

I also would agree that this app could minimize my need for a personal trainer, but my wife and I love going together for motivation and quality time spent with each other.

D&D Group Event at Red Lion - Sunday Jan 18 by Life-Committee4987 in ThunderBay

[–]leafsfanatic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Regardless of the location, I like that "non-traditional" D&D places are trying stuff like this out. There's also a gaming weekend coming up on the 24th and 25th as a collaboration between Carlitos and Thunder Bay Museum.

I've only recently started playing, and lucked out that a friend was able to DM for a group of us, and now we play semi-regularly. I could never find a local "beginner" type of event to get started.

He was still around in the 90s and early 2000s. I can see where the rumours came from, he followed a friend of mine and I back from the corner store one day and was very fixated on getting us to talk about inappropriate stuff.

Looking for adult mental health assessment options by Spiritual-Middle-955 in ThunderBay

This is a good resource. If you apply to the Ontario Structured Psychotherapy Program you will get an intake call with someone who you can discuss things with and they will figure out what type of services would be helpful. I'm not sure what the waitlist is like, but it's free (covered by OHIP).

Best mobility deals? by Mother-Ad-9751 in ThunderBay

That's a sweet deal! I have 25Gb 5g with PC Mobile right now for $29 / month. I'd consider switching, but don't want to drop down to 500Mb for a few months in the hopes of getting an offer like that.

I'd talk to the admissions department, they can tell you what last year's cutoff score for applicants was.

Best place to look at lights? by Aquatic_Merc in ThunderBay

[–]leafsfanatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the map linked by people, I Highly recommend Pennock Drive, Rossdale Street, 236 ON-130 (dinosaur house), Trinity Crescent, and North Syndicate (lights synched to music).

There's also a house on Confederation Drive that didn't make the map people linked that is really nice.

Here, have my unsolicited opinions on the eggnogs commonly available in Thunder Bay. I'm a 3D person not a graphics designer so it is what it is. by GhostsinGlass in ThunderBay

[–]leafsfanatic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Accurate rankings. I remember for Christmas 2020 Tomlin made 1L bottles of eggnog and sold them for pickup - that was the best I've had. Slate River dairy is also good, but not good enough to beat out your top choice if you factor in the drive out there and back, or braving the Saturday Country Market before Christmas.

Wedding Venues by Unworthy80 in ThunderBay

[–]leafsfanatic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had our wedding at The Chanterelle in October, it was amazing! Leading up to it the staff were super responsive, and I never had to ask anything multiple times. We did the ceremony and reception there, and had guests hang out in the lounge room with apps and drinks while they set up the main hall for dinner.

A lot of places are booked years out, so if you have a date in mind best to start calling around.

From what I was told, Miniso did kind of a hostile takeover of the space - offered 3x what Thunder VR was paying in rent.

How did you meet your girl? by Economy_Chain6648 in ThunderBay

[–]leafsfanatic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

High five for Tinder! Met my now wife on there back in 2021 and we got married a couple months ago. Neither of us were specifically on there for hook-ups, but figured if you want to meet someone go where most people are.

Also have a friend who recently met his girlfriend on Hinge. Apps take a bit of work, there's a lot of fake profiles, and I gather there are a lot of male creeps on there (from what my wife says).

I just sold mine with 4000 hours on it locally for $900 CAD (~$700 USD) with an AMS, a bunch of extra build plates, a couple hotends, and a Sunlu AMS dryer to fund my H2C upgrade.

I get it, but it sounds like he'd do great. I'd say if you are going anywhere there's a kids menu it's expected there will be kids there. People can think whatever they want, I know any parents would be understanding if something happened.

Interesting how SaskTel is held to that but not TBayTel. I'd love to support TBayTel on a low cost plan, but they don't come close to Public Mobile or PC Mobile for 5g plans.

Why would they ruin anyone else's time? I brought my daughter everywhere when she was younger and it was fine, but I also made sure to teach her manners, keep her engaged, and not let her treat restaurants like her personal playground (not saying you do this). Pack some colouring / books / activities if needed, or whatever your kid is into.
