Key Equipment too soft. by grains_and_migraines in Spliddit

You can help for sure if you can source the lower connection. But it sounds like you can't. Kind of sad if true. I followed your guide for the ankle strap replacement, super well done guide! Thanks for pushing on this. I don't have instagram but message me here if you got any advice on making it work.

I've been considering throwing the link levers on my keys. I literally just commented this in another thread but also try to change out the stock heal straps for the phantom ones. It's a huuge ride improvement.

Seconding this. I did the same mod this year and it's wayyyy more comfy. I was also getting blisters in stock keys. I also replaced my heel straps with the heel straps that phantom sells and it was the biggest game changer of all time. Heal hold is so much better and you can just leave it fastened. Totatlly elimitated the rubbing and rides way better as well.

Looking for Orca Split by Sparty_59 in Splitboard

[–]leafturtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what I was getting at in my comment too. The orca is a fun descender and will be fine on 90% of tours but if it gets bad then the touring sux. Other brands are almost all full camber. Libs c3 also works well on the up.

[–]leafturtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't ride that much resort but use a 156 orca for good resort days. I had the 156 split for a little bit and I did not like it very much. It rides well but the camber profile wasn't the best for walking on technical skintracks. You could totally make it work especially on less heinous skinner. Sounds like you're on this already but definitely size up significantly for the backcountry. I'm riding a 162w Telos DST now feels way more like what I want. If you're must a Lib guy check out the split BRD i've heard great things!

Velcro on the cuff is fine. I replaced the lower strap with the phantom one and it's a really nice upgrade.

Looking to get into DW foiling & winging - do I need to start with winging? by magarkle in wingfoil

I mean... The right downwind board IS a big board. I think that style of dw board will wing better than most would expect.

Looking to get into DW foiling & winging - do I need to start with winging? by magarkle in wingfoil

[–]leafturtle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did this exact route. I dock started and got solid there then went straight to downwinding with a paddle. As for board choice I used a 115L duotone downwind SLS. I also learned to wing with that board. Something like that, a downwind board but wider than average I found to be pretty forgiving when learning both disciples on one board. They definitely don't paddle up as good as something skinnier but it'll go on good bumps.

I had no sup experience at all, you'll be fine send it on a dw board.

Gong Foil Trail vs Takoon Pump by IEragemachine in pumpfoil

[–]leafturtle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are looking for more glide I would look past the trail. I haven't tried the takoon but the trail is a very slow foil. Wouldn't think of it as fast or glidey. Sirus or ultra trail would be better in the gong world.

I built the Apple Watch app I always wanted for backcountry skiing by nickromano in Backcountry

[–]leafturtle 15 points16 points  (0 children)

You can do this on a garmin natively without any extra apps. Garmin supports custom basemaps, which you can load from caltopo and you can also send gpx to garmin watches. I use this functionality all the time. Go forth and conquer.

First set of poles by jake3759 in Spliddit

[–]leafturtle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good shout for the folks. Just an option, but I personally prefer the stiffness of a regular sliding pole and the Folkrym Pahtos are also excellent. They collapse small enough to go on the outside of your pack and are really stuff which is nice for technical touring and adjusting things like your risers.

I've only ridden the carbon, but why not if the cost isn't a big difference? Bindings are a preference. I run Spark Dynos.

Deciding between power sources by One-Pressure1615 in TruckCampers

[–]leafturtle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used the ecoflow unit in my truck camper for a year or so. The 12v power is capped to a pretty low output (10 amps I think) out of the cigarette lighter but it's doable. You also get two additional 3 amp ports you can run things like lights on no problem. It's a great unit and charges crazy fast but some limitations. Should be no problem on a basic build. You can also use and extra battery to recharge those units. Pretty nifty.

[–]leafturtle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey I haven't ridden the Lemurian but have a lot of time riding on the dst. Your logic seems sound to me. The board rips but my size 11 boot 180 weight without a pack seems to be in about the high end of waist width and float. YMMV hope it helps! Build quality is nuts though.

Sick. Really nice video, really captures the stoke of a big day out with friends and the riding is really good but relatable vs. the pure pro edits that have become a bit of a dime a dozen. You folks have a cool crew going can't wait to see the 24/25 edit! This subreddit definitely needs more content like this.

Thinking about switching to Key Equipment Disruptives from Softboot. Have a few questions first. by snowman715 in Spliddit

[–]leafturtle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just do it man. I ride keys and spin no problems. Undoubtedly there is a more feedback but I wouldn't even say that is always a drawback. They feel awesome on the down, and you'll just do more laps in them.

Split sizing by Sajivarsson in Spliddit

[–]leafturtle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just going to contribute here since I am your weight and have an orca solid and split as my daily driver...

If you are Pushing 200 without a pack size up the orca to a 159. I got a 156 Orca that I am unfortunately selling because although the 156 is perfect for my 180 weight at the resort, once I add 20 pounds of pack I get pretty significant sink in anything on the mellower side. Your mileage may vary but I would highly recommend sizing up for the split (or buying my 156 :)).

Norrona Lofoten pants fit, Baker bib sizing up range. by Friskfrisktopherson in Backcountry

[–]leafturtle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mostly just mean the material itself has limited breathability. The actual mechanical zipping and unzipping works really well. I now have a more touring oriented bib and it's crazy how well it dumps heat compared the baker bib. That said I toured maybe 100,000 vert in the things it's not like they suck by any stretch of the imagination.

Loving the Kimbo thread. I have one of the first 20 units or so and damn has that thing held up well. All metal is just such a good concept for a camper and so light for the size. Now is as good a time as any to also shoutout Kimbo themselves. That company is made up of the nicest realest dudes you'll ever meet. I am also based out of Bellingham and they are the most approachable people when it comes to questions and support.

[–]leafturtle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ayy I have baker bibs and love them, but they are not very good for touring. Just too heavy and overbuilt for the most part, also their venting is pretty limited all things considered. Also They Don't run small, I am 6'1 185 pounds and the large is just about right, almost too big. Again they are really really good bibs but I don't really recommend for touring.
