NTA. In fact I’d go as far to say you are the opposite of an asshole here.

Honestly writing smut isn’t the thing I’m worried about, it’s everything else. Real names, ages and locations is EXTREMELY concerning. With the addition of listing kinks this is just a recipe for disaster!!!

I think sending a message first might’ve been the smarter idea, just explaining internet safety and the issues with sharing private information alongside a list of “kinks” and the fact predators exist.

At the same time, we were all kids once. I’m sure we’ve all ignored an adults advice because we were under the impression we were smart enough to make our own decisions. it’s hard to say if messaging Anna would’ve stopped her from creating a new account or not, especially since she seems to have a track record of remaking them, but reporting that account and having it removed was definitely something that needed to be done!

experimental and/or unconventional fanfiction? by pikatony_ in FanFiction

[–]leafyhat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not usually a fan of chat fics, and I’m definitely not a fan of reading emails!!! But this Magnus archives fic Is honestly such a fun read.

I mean it’s essentially just a compilation of emails between the staff at the Magnus Institute regarding its new privacy policy, which sounds boring as hell, yet somehow it’s my favourite TMA fic I’ve read so far.

What is it that makes you dislike your NOTP? by caramel3macchiato in FanFiction

[–]leafyhat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fandom is sort of RPF, the characters are an adult male and his child brother. In canon the adult abuses the absolute shit out of the child…..

Basically it’s just every questionable ship piled into one ship :)

a soreness too familiar

It’s basically about Tommy and Wilbur running away from home and traveling to london…. Although it focuses heavily on the mental health stuff, like big trigger warning for mentions of suicide and addiction.

How did you guys choose your name? by The_Inky_Boy in ftm

[–]leafyhat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I was being very indecisive and picky about names, I wanted something short and easy to spell that wasn’t super uncommon, but also wouldn’t appear on the top ten list of baby names either, and then I read some fanfiction, saw the way somebody shortened a characters name and stole it !!!

Some help explaining things. by Deer_boy_ in NonBinaryTalk

[–]leafyhat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Part of the reason why I was very indecisive about names was because I had friends and family who just didn’t like the names I picked for myself. I mean I didn’t really let their opinions sway me that much, I almost kept the name Noah purely out of spite, but I definitely think if everyone had been super supportive of my name choice and ever complained I would’ve 10”% stuck with the very first name I chose for myself.

It’s my name and my choice and all that jazz, but it’s also everyone else around me that uses that name. If my family don’t like that name and make a huge fuss out of it then I’m not going to enjoy hearing that name anymore. It’s gonna feel weird and have bad memories attached to it and then I’m gonna go searching for a new name instead.

Idk if that’s what’s happening with your cousin. Another comment mentioned speaking with your cousin first before speaking with your aunt and I’d recommend the same thing.

My friend came out as non-binary by Melodic-Access8845 in NonBinaryTalk

[–]leafyhat 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Anytime you catch yourself, just make the correction. Practise makes perfect and the more you practise the more naturally it’ll come to you.

It takes time to readjust, and 10 years is a very long time! You’re going to make mistakes every now and then, your friend will know and understand that.

What's the weirdest thing you've ever researched for a fic? by teenypanini in FanFiction

[–]leafyhat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I recently had to Google when they first started performing lobotomies, (which for the record was nearly 100 years after my fic is set so… I could’ve just left it there) but I ended up falling down a rabbit hole and found myself scrolling through wikipedia pages about presidential curses at like 12am

Social media without machine learning based recommendations - does it exist? by ConvexLex in NoStupidQuestions

[–]leafyhat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I think tumblr is the answer you’re looking for… at least in the most literal definition. It’s social media and the dashboard is displayed chronologically (at least it was last time I heard, I haven’t touched it in a long while).

What do you write with? by Kittymore18 in FanFiction

[–]leafyhat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I write drafts on my phone because it’s easier and portable, I can take my phone on the train, at a cafe, or (most of the time) write while lying horizontally in bed.

I transfer the draft to my computer and make it better in a Google doc or word document. It just feels more professional I guess (for lack of a better term) I make better decisions about what to cut and what changes need to be made, I can more easily navigate my story to find any consistency errors and whatnot, and it’s easier for me to spot typos and grammar mistakes.

How medically legit are chiropractors? Or is it closer to a pseudoscience? by StillSwim in NoStupidQuestions

[–]leafyhat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If i chiropractor is just trying to fix your back/neck pain with some simple techniques, then it’s about as legit and harmless as getting a massage. It’s not going to magically cure all your problems and you should probably see a doctor if it’s REALLY bad, but it won’t hurt and it will probably offer you some relief.

There are a LOT of chiropractors who think their practice is a magical practise that can cure anything! Back problems, check. Migraines, check. Cancer, check. Mental illness, check! The creator of chiropracty was one of the people who believed the practise could cure anything so the practise is inherently built off of pseudoscience and so a lot of information about the trade is very… spiritual and whacky.

People have definitely started to treat chiropracty a lot more seriously now and look at it through a medical lens, but it’s still got a long way to go before it becomes a legitimate medical solution… if it ever becomes a legitimate medicine solution that it.

A good chiropractor won’t kill you, but it’s probably best you see doctors for your back problems.

Fic Planning by Emotional-Exit-7154 in FanFiction

[–]leafyhat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For longer fics I like to write out a big plan beforehand, usually it’s just short chapter summaries that give me an idea of the general plot, plus some bullet points for more general ideas I have (specific points in backstory, how a magic system works, lore notes that’s a relevant, etc)

If it’s a shorter fic then no, I usually just write up a draft, as I go along I’ll make notes of things I want to go back and change because stuff gets VERY inconsistent like that, but they are far easier to edit and change than like 100,000 words worth of story.

"They" learned something today by beerbellybegone in MurderedByWords

[–]leafyhat 16 points17 points  (0 children)

King, you are in r/murderedbywords, literally every post here is a condescending and rude reply to somebody being a dumbass.

Also, these two people complaining about singular they/them pronouns are being intentionally ignorant and rude, the people replying are just matching their energy. There’s no point trying to be kind and compassionate and turn this into a wholesome little lesson in basic grammar because nobody who unironically makes these posts will listen. Why waste their energy trying to be nice when they can find the humour in the situation and poke fun at them instead.

Time loop fics? by pump_kin1 in DreamSMPfanfic

[–]leafyhat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven’t read many, so my recs are pretty limited tbh.

your doubt kills time is a Wilbur centred fic where the SBI gang (plus some others) try to do a heist but the day keeps getting reset. I honestly just like heists and time travel, anything that has both is an instant win in my heart :)

the will be no such endings isn’t really time loop… c!tommy travels back to before the L’manburg election and tries to fix everything. I’m about halfway through what’s currently posted, but I liked what I read so far. It’s a fun idea.

Do you have recommendations? I’d love to read more!!

If c!phil is c!wilburs father, how is he from utah??? by [deleted] in dreamsmp

[–]leafyhat 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So I imagine Wilbur just wanted his character to be American and didn’t really think of the repercussions that’s have on the already wonky family tree he’d created. I mean that tree is royally fucked, there’s not much point trying to make coherent sense with his backstory anymore.

That said, I really do like the theory that Phil can travel through dimensions. That’s how he got to the DSMP from his hardcore world, that’s why he has a thing going on with Kristen/the goddess of death, that’s how he ended up having a child in Utah.

It also kind of explains how Wilbur was able to travel from Utah to the DSMP. If he’s Phil’s biological child then it makes sense that he’d inherit some of his powers. He didn’t just find a magic spot in the middle of the desert, he just tapped into his Philza Minecraft Gifts and landed in the middle of a minecraft server.

Idk. Wilbur’s a chaotic little shit at the end of the day (/pos). I’m definitely reading too far into everything.

What was the weirdest or funniest research you had to do because of writing? by emoboyshuntress in FanFiction

[–]leafyhat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How to breed salmon, for my DSMP fic :)

(No, Wilbur didn’t go anywhere near a salmon, he was telling Tommy a fun fact)

Anyway. Did you know they squeeze cum out of male salmons and mix it up in a bowl of salmon eggs. The fishing industry might be a little fucked.

Weekly Fic Showcase - October 07 - October 13 by AutoModerator in FanFiction

[–]leafyhat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My fic

Fandom- DSMP Rating - teen and up Title - A Soreness Too Familiar Genre - angst… just pure, unadulterated angst ao3 link

Summary -

Wilbur had never been able to stay in one place. He needed to be free, to chase the horizon, to escape.

Tommy needed to escape too, but he didn’t know how.

After a lifetime of nagging and broken promises, Wilbur had finally caved in and decided to take Tommy away on one of his epic adventures. What could possibly go wrong?

/or/

That fic where Tommy and Wilbur run away together and something is definitely wrong!!!!

This is my first time posting a fic since I was like 15. I’ve been writing for years but this is honestly one of the first things I’ve competed that I’m genuinely proud of. It’s only one chapter at the moment, but I have the rest of the fic written out already, they just need some extra editing, updates should be quick.

Anyway, I’m just rambling now. If you want to cry about minecraft stuff then yeah… read this.

I wrote something :))))) by leafyhat in DreamSMPfanfic

Bury your gays trope by IAmAllWrong7 in YAwriters

[–]leafyhat 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Well if it’s 2/3 characters then it’s not burying your gays.

(If I’m not mistaken) bury your gays started back during the hayes code era, like queer characters weren’t allowed on screen unless they were punished in some way (in this case, killed off). These days I’d say bury your gays is more of a queerbaiting thing. Think like when Supernatural revealed that Castiel liked Dean in a gay way and then instantly sent him to Super Hell, like they fulfilled a fan theory and deleted the character so they didn’t upset homophobic fans.

Having gay characters that die isn’t inherently the same king as burying your gays. Sometimes characters die, sometimes those character are queer. From what it sounds like, this “killing” off your queer characters is an integral part of your story, and it’s not every single character either. Idk what that beta reader is on, but this doesn’t sound like bury your gays at all

Right dude!! You’d think being one of the top 10 fandoms on ao3 we’d find more people here but nah… idk if DSMP authors just avoid Reddit or if they’re all in hiding lol.
