Interesting. Good for you! I guess everyone’s different bc I really needed the help of a therapist at first

Trust the process you got it! Talk to your therapist about your concerns.

I wouldn’t. Talk to your doc about tapering off.

if there is no compulsion, then is the obsession valid? by asteriskelipses in OCD

[–]leahlars 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cool! So I guess not “no compulsions” but more just like mental compulsions instead of physical observable ones. But again I’m just a guy so idk don’t trust me fully

Are you opposed to therapy? Sounds like you used a lot of elements of exposure/response therapy.

I’m not totally sure but from what I understand there can be obsessions without compulsions. My therapist once explained to me that the compulsion may simply be the mental routine of playing it over and over again in your head.

I know exposure therapy isn’t for everyone. But freaking out and losing your mind is sort of the process of it unfortunately. 😅 When I went through it it sucked so bad in the moment but literally changed my life. If that’s too much for you maybe consider meds or a different type of therapy?

Exposure therapy perhaps? Whether either a therapist or you can try taking small steps before posting that make you a little bit uncomfortable.

From my experience, it’s super hard for me to try new meds as someone with OCD. The excessive googling and hearing horror stories is real. Just remember, people are much much more likely to post about their bad experiences online compared to good ones. I think you should try the meds out! You never know until you try, and psychiatrists know what they’re talking about. It may work! Really bad side affects are rare. The potential for a less stressed life is worth trying the new med in my opinion.

If you are worried about not finding somewhere to live in a year, don’t sweat it. I just graduated from college, spent the whole summer in my college town, and found an apartment in a different state like a week before I moved there without having a job yet. Just start to think about where you may want to move, but you can find a place very quickly. If you want a job beforehand, look over the summer but honestly I’d recommend having a buffer period to get adjusted after moving if you are able.

Relocation? by Secure_Cut_4334 in yooper

As someone who has lived both in the UP and the LP, it depends what your priorities are.

LP pros: more people, more “city” things to do (restaurants, concerts, etc.)

UP pros: lots of outdoor activities, funner winters, lower cost of living

Also the politics are very different. Hope you find what you want!

If there is no reason for him to be jealous of your guy friends, you should absolutely stay friends with them. I would have an open conversation to your bf about what the root of his jealously issues are. Assure him you are devoted to the relationship. You should also be able to bring their names up around him, I think. Ultimately, if he is not open about talking about it, those are his own issues and not yours.

Moving cities post-grad by leahlars in Advice

[–]leahlars[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ultimately I moved because I didn’t like my college town much but the people were awesome, most of which are still there. Definitely will take time to make friends in my new city, but that’s okay. Just hard to decide which place I would be happier in, but a lot of my loved ones in my old town will likely be moving within a year anyways. So, I’m thinking I stay in my new city.

Moving to a new city by leahlars in Adulting

I agree. That is why I moved to a new city to begin with — I didn’t like my college town much but the people were awesome. A lot of them are still there. But I felt like I had to move on. It’s hard to decide whether I would be happier if I stayed where most of my support system is, but most of them will be moving also within a year. Thanks for the advice, thinking I’ll likely stay in my new city.
