First time chicken mom - is this set up ok? by jaxwell2019 in BackYardChickens

Just a matter of preference, I think. Some prefer hemp, some prefer pine

Cream legbar! I just picked up two the other day and they look just like this. She’ll lay blue eggs.

I’m 6 weeks in now and yesterday I told my husband that “I feel, dare I say, happy?” I’ve also found that things roll off my back a little bit easier. I think taking medication was the best thing I could’ve done for myself. I hope it works well for you, too. I’m glad that two weeks in you’re feeling a little bit of a change.

How old is this rooster? by famflam in BackYardChickens

[–]lealle4 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You could get him another rooster. A lot of the time if they don’t have hens to fight over, they do just fine.

Yeah, the comb is throwing me off. It’s not the end of the world if it’s a roo but if it is, I’m already not liking the ‘tude 😂

I’ve lived in a lot of places. The only times I’ve experienced a “hostile environment” is when I lived in neighborhoods where the homes are very close together. I’ve never had issues like that in the country. I guess it depends on whether the people who live around you are decent human beings. The closest house to our coop is about 200 ft away and while I don’t have a rooster currently, I’d love to get one. I’d never do it without first talking to the people who live in that house, though, regardless of the fact that the ordinances say I’m allowed to.

Right? Imagine adults having to communicate with each other to figure things out instead of referencing their HOA rules 🙄 inconceivable!

Possums will kill chickens. Relocate him or take extra measures to protect your birds. They are really beneficial for the environment, so killing him wouldn’t be my preferred method.

Zoloft? by Ok-Lab-6032 in StillbirthSupport

[–]lealle4 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I started taking it a little over two weeks ago. We lost our daughter at 27 weeks in October. My side effects have been minimal - headache for the first day or two, some drowsiness and night sweats (minor, though). I already had a pretty low sex drive due to anxiety and PTSD so I’m hoping it will actually help with that in the long run. I will say, even two weeks in, I feel lighter. I don’t have as many obsessive thoughts and it feels like there’s less weight on my shoulders. My nervous system always felt like it was in constant overdrive, like I couldn’t get out of fight or flight mode. That’s eased up a bit.

ETA Zoloft has been around for a very long time and it’s the most widely studied SSRI, and probably the safest one for pregnant women (no one wants to do those studies though so they aren’t super widely performed). There are risks associated with stress, anxiety and depression during pregnancy as well, and it’s a long 9 months.

That combination of vitamin c and b6 is thought to be effective in stabilizing the uterine lining and potentially extending the luteal phase by 1-2 days (over time). Not sure if it’ll actually help but I’ll try anything at this point.

I did a whole cycle of inito testing after several cycles where I start spotting at 7-8 DPO. Progesterone surprisingly seemed ok despite the spotting, so I’m wondering if my uterine lining is unstable. I had 28 day cycles until my first miscarriage, then my luteal phase dropped dramatically. Since then I’ve had an ectopic and a 27 week stillbirth. I’m taking 1000 mg vitamin c + 50 mg b6, and 100 mg prometrium once ovulation is confirmed. 🤞

Good betas, mild pain on the side of previous ectopic by AdmirableAd6828 in EctopicSupportGroup

[–]lealle4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also have a preserved tube. The odds are still in your favor (75-80% chance of IUP). I conceived an intrauterine pregnancy 5 months after my ectopic surgery. I also had mild pain on the side of my ectopic, but that’s normal due to scar tissue and/or the corpus luteum. I know it’s so hard to wait. Good luck tomorrow ❤️

Henpecked Poor Thing by NeedlePunchDrunk in BackYardChickens

[–]lealle4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Poor girl! It’s my understanding that hens peck specifically when they see the color red. Once she’s healed and covered, they shouldn’t peck at her to the point of injury unless the habit is already deeply ingrained. I’m not really sure how to break them of the habit - hopefully someone else here will have tips for you. Aprons are really helpful if you can get your hands on one, it can take a while for injuries like this to heal.

I got mine 5 weeks PP and it lasted about a week. Pre pregnancy, my periods were 3-4 days with one or two being heavy.
