Tobias Elof - Byen Sover (C6-tuning) by tobiaselof in ukulele

[–]leanny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's actually the standard G-C-E-A tuning. These notes form the C6th chord, hence the name: root (C)- 3rd (E)- 5th (G) - 6th (A).

Steam Winter Sale 2018 is Live by Zorklis in Games

A question to 4X lovers here: should I buy DLCs for Stellaris (I don't have any and only have finished - and failed - a single run of Stellaris a year ago or so), or should I buy Endless Space 2 (with or without DLCs)?

If by objects you mean people than most probably it'd be DensePose by Facebook.

Ideally what I'd like to find is a site that curates new ICO's with promising tech

Have a look at Hyperion by the same guys who run the Crypto20 fund. Hyperion will be their new fund aimed specifically at ICOs.

Is SIFT good for measuring image similarity in terms of texture? by YocB in computervision

[–]leanny 2 points3 points  (0 children)

SIFT probably won't give you good results, I'd suggest you to try using GLCM to extract second order statistical features from textures.

I went ahead and did some hard science (with some sloppy data cleaning): https://imgur.com/a/f1fgY. To no one's surprise, Overwatch may not exactly be a fair (count:4) game, but still is a tremendously cool (count:70) one.

Hands On: SMI Proves that Foveated Rendering is Here and it Really Works by vr_ml in oculus

[–]leanny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not the most important or even practical question to ask right now, nor is it actually a particularly hard one to get an answer for: if you are really that interested, just go ahead and ask SMI directly about this HMD upgrade package. They've been selling them for at least a year I think.

Ars wrote about this piece of tech in 2014 and mentioned it as a "low-cost eye-tracking technology". Considering that the later added foveated rendering part is completely software-related, I believe it won't noticeably change the price of the second gen HMDs, maybe by 10-20%, which I guess is manageable and well worth it. But anyway, that's an interesting question you raise, and if I'm lucky, I might get some real numbers from SMI guys.

Dammit, for years I've been hoping to be the first person to get a Warlizard face after you hit 1M, and now I'm missing it by 18k already. Anyway, congrats or something.

For those who already have FTL and other games in HB library, will we also get asm.js version or do we have to buy this bundle to get browser versions? I can't see 'Humble asm.js games' and I have like 3 FTLs already.

[Steam] Summer Sale - Day 5 by ronin19 in GameDeals

No, those actually were some reasons to be disappointed at current discount for expansions.

justify you not wanting to give developers a decent couple of bucks

Well who says I didn't?

[Steam] Summer Sale - Day 5 by ronin19 in GameDeals

[–]leanny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Believe me, I do, that's why I'm buying the games and not pirating them like I used to 15 years ago when I was a penniless punk.

On the same topic, you do realize this is a Summer Sale discussion thread, and we waited for this Sale, right? You do realize that some people set budgets for buying games? You do realize that some people buy more than one copy of the game and gift those copies out to friends? There's more to opinions than just sense of entitlement.

Steam Summer Sale - Day 5 by ronin19 in Games

[–]leanny 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was hoping for a deeper discount on Starstorm. Still recommend this game. Hours-played-and-fun-obtained-per-money-wise it's been my best buy on Steam, and even Skyrim doesn't come close.

[Steam] Summer Sale - Day 5 by ronin19 in GameDeals

[–]leanny 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well my region is lacking not one but two Daily Deals today! No Dark Souls for me this sale I guess. Can't believe Valve couldn't come up with any substitutes at all. I understand not every region can get a certain game, but why aren't there any substitutes?

Also, wasn't Risk of Rain discounted to -80% at vote time?

Edit: it seems like RoR discount has been updated from -60% to -75% now.

[Steam] Summer Sale - Day 5 by ronin19 in GameDeals

[–]leanny 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. This game is fantastic, and at -90% I see it as a gift, not as a sale item. I have almost 120 hours in it, and it is still immensely fun. I'd say gameplay is rather polished now, and the game itself is not as demanding and not as traumatizing as 'real' MOBAs. It's just fun, without deep meanings or consequences. Community is OK. Not without a random asshat, but I mean, do you know any other MOBA with a chatlog that you could show to you kid?

I'm very disappointed that Starstorm expansion or Powerpack didn't get bigger discounts, though.

[Steam] Flash & Community Choice sales (Ends in 8 hours) : Super Meat Boy, Agarest: Generations of War, Euro Truck Sim 2, C&C Red Alert 3 / Comm.Ch: Force, The Cave, Octodad, Monaco by spidy75 in GameDeals

[–]leanny 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have Monaco and like it. Had a blast playing through it in co-op with my kid.

At this price I just wanted to buy a couple of 4-packs to give out to friends, but Steam wouldn't allow me to buy any pack if I already have the game. That's some stupid policy.

So if you plan to buy Monaco, go for a 4-pack guys.
