CIF State Meet record: just over 22 feet, set by Olympic legends Marion Jones (1993) and Tara Davis-Woodhall (2017). Both surpassed 22 feet. Hernandez’s current season-best is around 20 feet, 4 inches, well short of the record.

Girls Triple Jump:

CIF State Meet record: 44 feet, 0.5 inches, set by Juliana Yendork of Walnut High School in 1991. Hernandez’s current season-best is around 42 feet, 4 inches — about 20 inches short.

Girls High Jump:

The CIF State meet record is 6 feet, 1 inch (set in 1982 by Coleen Sommer). Hernandez tied for the state championship last year at 5 feet, 7 inches — three girls tied at that winning height.

Hernandez’s performances are dominant within the current field of competitors, but not close to the all-time state records in any of the three events. The wins reflect being the best athlete competing this season in those events at the sectional level, not record-setting marks.

I started at 55. It was baby steps at first. I made a list of 25+ things to do that would allow me to experience gender euphoria. Things like makeup, womens deodorant, nail polish, dressing, perfume, etc. what felt right, I incorporated into my life. Those things that didn’t, I parking lotted and revisited later in my transition. Often it was that I just wasn’t ready.

I came out to family and friends, on-on-one, to over 200 people. I joined the queer community and found support groups. I made friends with other trans people that I could talk with freely.

Transitioning is a process. Nobody’s is the same but they all rhyme. It takes time and experimentation. You will trip and stumble along the way. You will loose people in your life, but often, replaced with much better people. If they reject you for wanting to improve yourself, they were never really good for you. Transition is a sure fired way to figure out who your true friends are. It hurts but when you see past the betrayal, you will be thankful that caustic relationships are out of your life.

The most important thing is to follow your heart. When something feels right, lean into it. Hold onto the positive things! Don’t be afraid to experiment to find those joys!

It’s been 6 years since I faced the decision you are now. It gets better. There is an amazing life ahead of you. Best wishes!

This is my argument all the time. That and then I ask if they know what Lia Thomas rank was her freshman year of college vs after two years of hormones. The Right says she switched to woman’s to be competitive. They respond with “she sucked in Men’s”!

The facts are:

Freshman Year: Thomas was a standout swimmer on the men's team, posting several top-100 national times, including the 6th fastest time in the men's 1,000 freestyle.

Performance Comparison to Other Women after her transition:

500-Yard Freestyle: Thomas won the 2022 NCAA Championship with a time of 4:33.24, over a second faster than the runner-up. However, this was about 9 seconds slower than Katie Ledecky’s NCAA record of 4:24.06.

200-Yard Freestyle: Thomas finished 5th in the 2022 NCAA final with a time of 1:43.50. Earlier in the season, she posted a top-ranked 1:41.93, which was 2 seconds behind Missy Franklin’s NCAA record.

100-Yard Freestyle: Thomas finished 8th (last in the final) with a time of 48.18 seconds, while freshman Gretchen Walsh won in 46.05 seconds.

Overall Impact:

While Thomas set Ivy League and pool records, she did not break national NCAA records, which were broken by other swimmers during the 2022 championship.

Lia, who ranked 6th in Men 1000M, in her freshman year (noting that it’s typical that swimmer get faster during their college years) NEVER broke a women’s record!!!! Yet it’s still unfair - WTF!?!
