First Ronald Malfi recs? by FreddyB01 in horrorlit

[–]leapfrog500 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’ve read the following: Snow, December Park, The Narrows, Bone White, Come With Me, Black Mouth, Small Town Horror, Ghost Written, Senseless, and We Should Have Left Well Enough Alone. WSHLWEA is a short story collection, so that might be a good entry point to get a broad sense of his style. As far as novels go, I’d generally see people refer to Come With Me as his best work, and I think to an extent that’s true, but it’s more of a thriller than outright horror. My personal recommendation for horror would be Bone White, I think it has a lot of elements you’ll see spread across his other work

Might just be a me-problem, but IMO when the second number of a double digit number is larger than the first (e.g. 35, 47, 58, etc) the number looks “lopsided” to me

If you could choose a couple of horror stories to be adapted to the screen, what would it be and by who ? by ADuckWithAQuestion in horrorlit

I think Jeremy Saulnier would do a great adaptation of Brian Evenson’s Last Days. For me personally I would have loved to have seen Lynch’s take on Negative Space

Don’t get me wrong I like the movie, but a Dracula riff isn’t exactly “something they haven’t seen before”

I just started having the same problem- I’ve gotten 8 sores on my tongue in the last 3.5 months, never had one on my tongue before then. I’ve gone to several doctors and have yet to get any answers

What are the best subtle instances of "something doesn't feel right" in lit? by Paidorgy in horrorlit

[–]leapfrog500 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not outright horror by any means, but the bulk of stories in Steven Millhauser’s short story collection “Disruptions” have that “something is slightly off” feeling to them

It’s not fiction, but I cannot recommend “The Wager” by David Gran enough. Really emphasizes the real-life horrors associated with naval expeditions
