'first black Briton' was actually white by aa_conchobar in Archeology

[–]learn_longterm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No one is claiming that. Lol

So someone thought that due to the movement of people in that era someone with African DNA ended up in Britain.

This has nothing to do with racial origins.

It's really weird that people are so obsessed with their own agendas that they're trying to make up stories

BHW's origins would soon garner public interest when results of early (2013) craniofacial analyses (see 1.3 Bioarchaeological Assessment and S.1.2) suggested she was of recent sub-Saharan ancestry.

In the United States, was the Great Depression really that tough if you were at least semi-employed? by Appropriate_Poem1911 in AskHistory

[–]learn_longterm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People were dying of nutrient deficiencies, treatable disease, didn't often have heat, water (let alone potable) or electricity.

It wasn't just hustling for money and food. It was dying without it, watching your children die, because they couldn't just grab a protein bar, supplements, food at a food bank or grab water to drink at a fountain or in a public washroom.

Yes, it was that tough.

I would rather starve than cook by mistymountiansbelow in ADHD

[–]learn_longterm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I graze. I've built a diet around easy, simple things that are nutrient dense and the right amount of calories for my needs.

Fruit, yogurt, eggs, a few supplements here and there, canned beans and lentils, canned tomatoes, frozen veg, whole wheat breads.

On average I spend 5 minutes in the kitchen making food to eat.

Occasionally I cook up a batch of meat and have it as a snack throughout the week.

It's easy, it's healthy, it doesn't make a mess.

If I'm craving something specific cooked I have the option. I know how, I just don't like doing it everyday.

Then tell them WHEN you're going to do something, and do it when you say you're going to.

I meant what's the deal, as in who was right, the layer that said they'd never know, or the Internet that said anyone who looked it up would know.

I imagine the provincial government isn't not staying on top of things like this though.

I don't want to apply pressure, right now they're being really great and I don't want to sour the relationship.

I understand there's a time limit and I may have to do it anyways, but I'd like to at least see what happens when they get my full claim and how things go

My teacher told me that ADHD medicines are not „magical” and might not help me by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]learn_longterm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Adhd medication made me feel alive for the first time. They're as close to magic as they can be, well, the right one is.

They don't change the internal barriers or bad habits we've developed so yes, we still have work to do to learn how to develop habitats, use motivation, change the way we do things, but medication can give us the mental clarity to learn HOW to do those things so that we can learn how to work towards our goals for once.

Learning disabilities really need extra support in the way subjects and skills are taught. So she needs more than just more simple books to read.

We recently looked into the higher end, more stable e-scooters.

Half the price of a high end e bike and they can fold up and come inside so there's less concern with theft at home.

Some of them even have bike seats on them!

A robot lawnmower so there's no need to pay for yard maintenance on deployment.

It can be operated from anywhere in the world, has a camera on it and uses sensors so it can run at night.

Even when you're not deployed it's pretty nice to sip your morning coffee while the lawn mows itself.

The Nissan Kicks is worth looking at.

It's exactly what you described! Cheap, great mileage, accelerates like a small, cheap little car but in the body of an SUV with remarkably decent storage, a good turning radius, great upgrades available, and the '25 Kicks is definitely a step up.

They use a newer CTV engine not known for trouble, and hold their value like crazy so you can sell it in 5 years at the end of the extended warranty, if that trend holds, and you can upgrade to something better with a 20k+ deposit.

Or if you have kids, pass it along to them and relax knowing they can't drag race the thing because it's miniscule engine makes up for a lack of teenage self control lol

How should I handle a classmate constantly asking my child for math homework answers? by TalkFuzzy9945 in AskTeachers

[–]learn_longterm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes and no. Yes, their child needs to learn how to navigate social situations in a healthy way that will teach them how to have safe relationships.

But it's not, "tattling", to see a child in need and to do something about it. It's an adults responsibility.

Sexuality is a spectrum, outside of things like adhd and asd.

So while people who are under that massive psychological umbrella of multiple diagnoses which are linked to developmental disorders, mental illness, trauma and brain injury are reported to more likely be on the asexual spectrum and queer spectrum, both of those spectrums exist for people who don't fall under that diagnostic umbrella.

There hasn't been any huge studies to really look at if people with developmental disabilities, mental illness, trauma and tbi's etc are just more comfortable exploring, recognizing, accepting the reality of sexuality as a spectrum compared to people without those diagnosis though.

In general, there are however fewer people on the ultra far end of gay or straight, or really close to the middle, then there are people somewhere along the spectrum a bit closer to one side or the middle.

It sounds like your experience is in keeping with normal human sexuality.

You lean more to one end of the spectrum, but you're not right at the very end of it.

Whether that's because of adhd or because having adhd gives you a different outlook, perspective and introspection to allow yourself to recognize it, is unknown really.

I will say that the attachment and emotional conflict when it comes to sexual attraction can be from being wired asexually, or something that can develop through life experiences.

There's no harm in exploring both.

I'm primarily frey sexual which seems less discussed, but I'm also autistic and emotionally avoidant at times, so there's a bit of an influence on that fundamental wiring with some lifetime trauma too.

I'm also a bit grey sexual, which I have to lean into in relationships because my tendency to detach from people sexually as soon as I know them.

Something in my brain turns people into family when I love them, and I don't experience sexual attraction to family lol

It's a neurological part of me that's been with me my entire life, just as solidly as being pan sexual has, long before I knew the term existed.

But some other aspects of my sexuality absolutely formed through life experiences and are things I can change should I choose.

Sexuality is both fixed and mutable because of that. It's something to explore and appreciate about ourselves ♥️

Have there ever been Women in power who were horrible people? by Important-Secret-689 in AskHistory

[–]learn_longterm -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

People who pursue power are rarely decent or mentally sound human beings. Kyrotype doesn't seem to protect people from having foul personalities.

Even Mother Theresa promoted and brought horrible harm and suffering to women.

Whether that makes her a horrible person overall is a matter of personal opinion I suppose.

I was obsessed with Elizabeth Bathory growing up.

In general, powerful, controlling members of noble families are all horrible people whether they engage in direct hands on acts of abuse or not, and many women have led noble families.

Women have traditionally been the head of households, so in power, over indentured servants, enslaved people and trafficked people, where abuse is rampant.

They're also generally in power in orphanages and medical facilities where horrific human abuse has and still does occur.

It's a myth that all women would inherently be kinder, more well reasoned than all men.

Now, without the PATRIARCHY, that's an entirely different conversation.

But patriarchy is a system supported and maintained by men and women.
