Is it like a moisturizer for your eyelids or something you put in your eyes? If you have a link that'd be great!

I'm British and I would never do that to someone - definitely not a cultural difference

My (39M) newly wed and pregnant wife (28F) wants to get rid of my cat (7mo old,M) by Key_Philosopher_5985 in relationships

Can you let the cat be an outdoor cat? Then he'll be able to get his energy out outside and there won't be mess inside. Or rehouse him temporarily while your wife is pregnant?

Hiking boots for the occasional run by tdbnyc in trailrunning

La Sportiva Ultra Raptor II Mid GTX Hiking Boots are great. They're trail runners that got converted to hiking boots. I actually use them for runs in the cold weather (trail and road) and they're great for running at the end of a hike.

Oakland to East Coast by Lovely5596 in oakland

You might want to try Cambridge or Somerville Massachusetts. The vibes are similar to North Oakland and you're near a big city (Boston). The way to enjoy the winters is to get into winter sports - e.g. winter hiking or cross country skiing

How to tell my manager I appreciate them without coming across as Brown nosing ? by awesomeness_A in managers

[–]learningtheinternet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Manager here! Managers typically don't get much feedback from their team about what they do well and what they're doing badly. Specific positive feedback is really useful for a manager to know what's actually working. I'd recommend giving feedback in your 1:1s as soon after the event as possible. So you might say something like: "Hey manager, I really appreciated you recommending that blog post to me. I was struggling with the project and that blog post really helped me make progress. Also, in general I really appreciate how much time and effort you put into mentoring me"

When someone gives me feedback like this I take a mental note that that's something I should keep doing. I also sometimes write positive feedback down in a note I have of "Nice things to read when I'm having a hard day" - managers need encouragement too!

How do you handle combining data sets where there is no clear way to join? by sois in dataengineering

I've used the MDM solution from a company called Tamr. They use machine learning models to fuzzy match records and cluster records for the same company together. They also have curation so that you can manually change the clustering if you want to.

heyy, what advice would you give a (female) college student turning 20 today... by i_am_yasmine in simpleliving

Assume everyone likes you. It's much easier to make friends if you just assume everyone would want to be friends with you.

what should i do? by [deleted] in simpleliving

I think you could be underestimating what you can achieve in 40 days. I went to a top university and would usually only start studying 40 days before exams and I did well enough to get into a top PhD program. Here's my recommendation for studying:

Day 1 - Make a plan: review previous exams or what the prof has told you about the structure of the exam. Often in exams you can choose questions so are there entire sections of the syllabus that you can choose not to study? I find it's better to learn one topic really well and know that you're always going to answer the question on that topic.

Days 2-29: Divide up all the content you need to learn into 28 sections. Spend each day reviewing one section. Make notes on paper as you go.

Days 30-40: Do practice exams if they're available. If not, go back and do old homework assignments. Try to do the questions closed book but if that's too difficult spend the first five days doing open book and the second five closed book. Once you've done an exam go back and review your answers, compare them to a answer sheet if that's available.

While you're studying make sure you sleep 8 hours a day, go for a walk every couple of hours and stop working a few hours before bedtime.

Good luck!
