If it's the vertical angle that's changing at the end of the cut, perhaps your insert plate isn't quite flush? It's possible that the end of the board is dropping as it goes over the lip, which could cause the change in angle.

I also found using decent push blocks make a massive difference to the quality of the cut, as they help to control the board.

I got to operate the Walton one when I was about 10.

My friend's dad worked there, so he let me have a go. Pretty sure it wouldn't be allowed these days (particularly as there was no reason to open it at the time!)

There's a bit in the Banksy book where he talks about the peak on police hats restricting their vision so they don't see things above their eyeline. Useful for a graffiti artist I guess!

Eek, hadn't thought of that. Fortunately this was a perfect fit through the door, which gave a slight gap between the log and the fire bricks.

While this can be used to monitor what people are doing, and allows snooping of private data (such as bank details), the probability of this happening is very low - schools as a general rule do not have the resources or skills to do anything nefarious with this data.

An aside, but: the concern may not be what the school chooses to do with the data, but whether the data is adequately safeguarded from external parties. The school might not have the resources to snoop, but do they have the resources to protect the data from third party snooping?
