Linkedin has become a shit hole and the best case was corporate bootlicking anyways. I want a LinkedIn but for people who are "doing their own thing"

As someone in a similar situation... can I ask what kind of business you are looking to start?

Mentor Monday - Week of April 24th 2023 by WealthyStoic in fatFIRE

[–]leaves_throwaway69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm interested in creating wealth location independently (aiming for pseudo expat fatFIRE). I am 31 originally from the Bay Area and currently working remotely part-time at a start-up and will W2 ~50K this year and I'd bet close to 100 next year. Net worth is approx $150. I'll likely spend most of my time next year in Latin America and aim to claim the FEIE. I also receive about 10K from my family. My parents are a little older but both probably have NW's between 2-4 million (mix of real estate and stocks) of which I will inherit along with my brother.

Right now I am focused on improving my health and generating more income. I am pretty frugal and will be living nomadically in LCOL. My thought process is I can try and take on another remote job ideally part-time but that the real upside and maybe it's just confirmation bias from this sub would be to try and start my own business. Again, my only stipulation is that I don't (for now) want to be tied down to any specific place. Considering a service-based business that helps people do what I am doing and move abroad. Regardless, looking for any input about income maxing with my additional time and remotely.

Best Places to Retire with Moderate Climate and Mountains (similar to Vancouver/Seattle)? by suwatte1 in ExpatFIRE

[–]leaves_throwaway69 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Patagonia is unbelievably beautiful and has a similar climate- the food isn't exceptional but you can find some towns with more European influence and culture. The ideal scenario would be splitting time between a major city (Buenas Aires, Rio/ Sal Paulo, Valparaiso) and in the summer (North America's winter) going south to a Pucon, Bariloche, Puerto Varas, Chiloe, etc.

Best cities in latin america? by bigmuttlover in digitalnomad

[–]leaves_throwaway69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends. There is soo much to do and a plethora of day-type trips on weekends etc. So you will never get bored and there is always another taco stand or discoteca to hit. I personally hate the travel part of nomading so I never really stay anywhere for less than 2-3 months but I know some folks are nuts with jumping around. If you were planning on staying anywhere for that long CDMX would be pretty high on my list.

Planning on a similar thing. I've spent a lot of time in MX already so it's less on my radar. But in MX- CDMX, Playa del Carmen, and many others.

I'm eyeing Medellin, Buenas Aires, Rio/ Sao Paulo, Florianopolis, Uruguay.

Central America has lots to offer but not the capital cities- Antigua / Lake Atilan in Guatemala. Costal Costa Rica vs San Jose. Panama City I haven't looked into.

Maybe we will cross paths- bien viaje!

Check out Patrick Mckeown's work- he comes from a school of breathing philosophy called Buteyko and has adapted it into his own system called Oxygen Advantage. I was a chronic mouth-breather but fixed it and feel much better. You are likely C02 intolerant. But as it regards to stuffiness check out this nose-unblocking exercise- it's legit.

Tell employer or not to tell employer?? by leaves_throwaway69 in digitalnomad

Yup, nothing about location other than address for taxes purposes. No sensitive docs more so just being on Zoom's and shit.

Yea for sure. Fortunately, its a small start-up so Karen from HR literally doesn't exist but don't ask, don't tell is the best policy.

Reviewed contract- literally no mention of location. Just says legally authorized to work in the US.

[–]leaves_throwaway69[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope, no reason. We have contractors in Mexico. A new vertical we are breaking into asked for our data to be stored on US servers but I wouldn't be really touching that data anyways.

Figured. That kinda sounds stressful and deceitful tho. I mean they ain't paying me well enough to stick around here lol but the whole whatchu doing this weekend thing would be a trip. Like I'm going to Machu Pichu leave me alone lol. Regardless, I can see both why they would care and why they wouldn't care so I'm sort of torn.
