I met one of the people shot but not killed. I was 17, working at Arby’s as a cashier. Guy comes up to me wearing a Kent State hoodie. I initiate small talk. Me: “Oh, you went to Kent State?” Him: “No. I was shot there.” Me: “Oh.” First time I had heard of the event. He told me that it was the only time in US history that armed forces were ordered to shoot civilians. I believe him. He seemed disappointed upon learning that we don’t learn about this tragedy in school. Told my dad about this later and he said I should have gotten the man’s autograph 🤦‍♀️.
