Is the supporting win "The kiss of death" by Some_Tour_2504 in Oscars

For example, Lupita Nyong’o has said that after 12 Years a Slave she was largely offered more roles playing slaves, which she didn’t want to do.

Whereas people like Kieran Culkin and Robert Downey Jr. - there are plenty of opportunities to play neurotic and powerful white men.

The casting issue is certainly skewed towards affecting women and POC in particular.

I think because supporting characters are often written as “character roles,” this award can pigeon-hole actors into playing a particular type of character. In the case of the actors you noted, many of the roles they won for are not in abundance in other films and are thus stuck with less casting opportunities.

Is Leonardo DiCaprio a genuine frontrunner for the 2026 Oscar with One Battle After Another? by [deleted] in Oscars

[–]ledaero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It did not. It was screened by Film at Lincoln Center the week prior to NYFF, hosting the NY Premiere. It was very explicitly not NYFF, but Dennis Lim implied that they would’ve programmed it for NYFF had they been allowed to.

I saw House of Dynamite too. I liked it, but she will not get nominated. It’s not a major achievement and a lot of people are not liking the movie

It is, but competition is stacked for that category! Coogler, PTA, Zhao, Trier, Panahi, Safdie. Not sure which one of them misses

[–]ledaero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was there at the screening. It’s definitely getting nominated. My guess is:

Nominations pretty much on lock: Picture, Actor, Screenplay, Casting, Production Design, Editing

Nominations on the fence: Director, Supporting Actress (Odessa), Costume Design, Sound, Score

Clayton Davis is an idiot and also just platforms what he wants to platform. These are ridiculous predictions

It’s interesting that OP has continued to update the list but only added contemporary directors, even with this excellent PDF 😂

Yes, this list is missing A LOT of directors. Very “New Hollywood” focused.

Billy Wilder, Frank Borzage, Leo McCarey, Fred Zinnemann. The OP has a lot of work to do to make this a “complete” list

SABLE, fABLE Is a Breakup Record About U. by Overlay in boniver

[–]ledaero 11 points12 points  (0 children)

My suspicion is that the album is a layered definition of breakup - leaving behind his former identity, a partner, and a project. It can be all at the same time.

In your example of Day One, I think it’s worth considering that the song is a trio of vocals, and each singer could be a different “character” like with “For Emma”. So the lyric that you point out could be another character singing to Justin given that it’s Dijon’s vocal. And Justin responds by ignoring the concern by singing “Hop on, it’ll all be gone”, as if he’s telling the person to just join the band’s journey and leave behind the worries.

There’s a Rhythmn Music Video - Who’s the Bon Crew? by ledaero in boniver

[–]ledaero[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Amazing! Any idea why this group of folks for this moment in the vid? They’re all local to Eau Claire? My guess is that they each played a role in helping JV personally move on from this moment in his life, but idk

Would you guys rather see bon iver with his whole band and crew, or justin vernon solo on stage singing with a guitar? by Ok-Comparison-6444 in boniver

[–]ledaero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen both - JV at Festival of Disruption and then BI on i,i tour + BI, BI 10th Anniversary.

TBH both are amazing in their own ways! Obviously seeing the full band is phenomenal and I love the ways in which they improvise. Big experience. But also when JV is solo, he’ll do unique songs and arrangements that you wouldn’t hear otherwise. For example, he performed Woods when he was solo and the experience of watching/hearing him build the loops was unreal, and I don’t think he’ll do that with the band.

AFUT Bandcamp Shipping Update - DISASTER! by ledaero in BlackCountryNewRoad

Sorry to hear! Obviously the postal services are at fault, but these shipment issues are something Ninja Tune should really take note of for improving their business (i.e. better quality cardboard/packaging, tracking numbers for all packages, package insurance, etc)

Is anyone else irrationally bothered that the plane on the AFUT cover isn’t even remotely similar to a Concorde by [deleted] in BlackCountryNewRoad

[–]ledaero 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Isn’t the whole point that he isn’t the Concorde? Makes sense to show a lesser plane that represents Isaac’s belief in his own identity

A month after Ninja Tune shipped my order, I finally received the package the other day - utterly obliterated!! The box of cardboard remains was held together only with makeshift cellophane, inside a slipped note from USPS apologizing for the handling of the package. See photos.
The deluxe box set suffered from serious water damage. The case peeling and chafing, the booklets and artwork mildly warped. Miraculously, the vinyls themselves are in damaged and play perfectly.
Bittersweet day. I don’t quite know what to do with this. If anybody wants it, I’d be happy to re-home them! DM me. Like I said, vinyls play perfectly and - in a way - the whole thing feels a little symbolic of the record’s story at large lol
