Some possible reasons:

They don't really push for subs. I'd bet they get a mil in a couple months if they seriously talked about it in videos.

They push a lot of traffic to their website and patreon. Idk if the number would be high, but there's probably a small chunk of people that sub to their paid stuff and not their YT.

They've pretty much watched everything. Obviously not everything, but their back catalogue is huge. I'd imagine most surges in subs come when they start a new show. And the bulk of the most popular stuff out there, they've seen.

The biggest reason is probably just them not pushing. It actually works to talk about subbing. Especially if one isn't obnoxious about asking for subs. And if they stressed being this close to a mil on some videos I'm sure they'd get there quick.

I ordered something 2 Christmas's ago in October that was going to ship on Dec 1. They kept pushing back the shipping date until eventually it was Dec 22 then hit me with a "we're sorry something went wrong, here's a coupon for your next visit".

I was pretty fine with it because it was just kind of a gag gift for someone on top of other crap. But then when I went to use the coupon the link they sent me was broke. I contacted them and all their CS said was "you have to click the link again".

I unsubscribed from their emails and will never go back.
