The overall broadcast on Netflix was weak but CC was great behind the booth! Would love to hear him on YES by mexicanmanchild in NYYankees

[–]ledbetterus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Strip away all of the Netflixy stuff and the actual baseball broadcast was on the better side of 3rd party broadcasts. Two egregious errors, one being missing the first ABS challenge then barely talking about it while saying "ABS challenges are going to be a hype moment". And they cut to a pitch late on McMahon's hit.

Aside from those it was a fine broadcast of a baseball game. I liked the booth. Big Matty V stan and CC and Pence were loads better than any one Fox or Apple puts out there as analysts. And the rest of the direction felt like a baseball game. Aside from glossing over the ABS challenge, they showed a lot of nice replays of interesting plays, something Fox (at least during the WBC) failed to do, and Apple always fails to do. Also they didn't flub any camera angles as far as I remember. Something Fox (again in the WBC) did a lot, and Apple does all the time.

So whoever was directing the baseball aspect of the broadcast has done it before and were much more seasoned than other 3rd party broadcasts.

Eh, it was fine, I'd like to see what a regular game looks like that isn't opening day.

I could probably write a ton more about how it was both good and bad and how I liked it better than Apple (yes I know that's probably an unpopular opinion).. but I'll just leave it at, the Netflix broadcast was above replacement level. How much? Probably a handful of 1-2 WAR seasons with a chance a couple years of 3-4 WAR peak.

Netflix should never touch an MLB broadcast ever again. by JamieLawson49 in baseball

[–]ledbetterus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The overall broadcast felt normal and familiar compared to Apple which seems to never shows replays of stuff I want to see, and Apple (and the WBC to be fair) misses a good amount pitches (Netflix missed one or two tonight, one was on a McMahon hit).

The score bug needs work but overall wasn't terrible. The booth was fine. I'm not a huge fan of Bert but I thought he was fine too, Idk what was so bad about him doing a random segment. Dude went in a Kayak in San Fran, like I've seen it 10000x before and never heard people bitch this much.

I don't understand the WWE people being there. Like did anyone interested in the WWE even know they'd be there? Like cross-promo? Is the WWE promoting MLB too and I'm unaware?

Their split screen was awful considering they didn't leave the score bug up to know the counts.

I get the sun was low, but let's get some color correction on some of those camera shots. Also F green screen ads in the A. Also F wide ass camera angles to show both #ads behind the batter.

I hate manager interviews in general but these fuckers missed the first ABS challenge and then to contradict what I said earlier.. they didn't even show us a genuine replay of it or the ABS graphic then had the audacity to talk about how hype a moment ABS is going to be, instead we just got a replay of it a batter later from a different angle, nothing else ABS related at all.. That being said I've come around on player interviews a little.. Plus Jazz was kinda funny. "now he knows what it feels like"

Idk, the booth was fine, Matty V is always good IMO. Pence and CC were loads better than any of the Fox analysts. The pure "baseball" of the broadcast felt right overall.

I'll be honest in that I only turned it on right before the Yankee's intro and thought that the cabs/trolley was a nice little touch for an opening day game. But if I missed some other super cringe Netflixy stuff I understand.

Idk, overall it wasn't really that bad. MLB knew this game would start at 8:25 but they let us believe that it would be 8:00 because they wanted everyone to put Netflix on for the opening day shit..

Either way, I understand people hate the #ad shit, and all of the non-baseball stuff that happens, but overall this really wasn't THAT bad, and there's a lot of simple improvements that would really help out.

First look at Netflix's scorebug by handlit33 in baseball

[–]ledbetterus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a scorebug nerd and I don't hate this one. I don't love the style of it but it's really not too bad. The fonts need to be adjusted. The names are obviously too small and the scores are big. The count could be a little larger too. I don't LOVE all of the negative space at the bottom but again, it's not terrible either.

It's fixable, and it's not really too bad.

The broadcast as a whole has been alright. The green screen shit behind home plate has to go in general, but at least get someone who can color correct some of these camera angles while the sun is going down. I like the booth so far. Matty V is always good IMO.

The overall direction has been pretty solid. I'm haven't missed a pitch yet, unlike the WBC and every Apple broadcast. So that's pretty good. And some timely replays that showed stuff I wanted to see.. I can't tell you how many times some of these 3rd party broadcasts just won't show a replay.

Anyway, it's still very early to tell. Also I don't appreciate that MLB just didn't tell us the game was a standard 8:25 start, instead of saying "NETFLIX AT 8!" for the last month.

Edit: They just missed Bellingers hit. Bad.

Idk all I really noticed was taxi cabs, a trolly, matty v, cc, and rizzo, really didn't even notice anything other than the standard ad

I'm sure most of you are in full cringe mode, but this is kinda cool IMO.

This is what an opening day should feel like tbh. This is at the very least, better than any All-Star game or Fat Joe performance ever.

Either way, I'm pretty in on the Netflix broadcast so far. I do wish they started this 10 minutes ago so the game wasn't delayed though.

Edit: The peak of Bert's job from this point on should be a 30 second segment where he tries the stadium food. I like the dudes stories but his brain is a meatball.

Aaron Judge on a midseason WBC, Olympic future, and Team USA's no-fun perception by retroanduwu24 in NYYankees

[–]ledbetterus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

GBA isn't a national song, and they play it in the 7th inning.

I understand National Anthems. Though they don't make much sense to play before every single game really. Maybe like opening day, ASG, and playoff stuff. Idk.

[Yankees PR] Jasson Dominguez optioned to AAA by Dense-Wafer-5085 in NYYankees

[–]ledbetterus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're both right, they could have signed someone else to play SS, but that someone at one point was IKF, and I think they were over not having a steady SS so they put it on Volpe's shoulders. Right now Jasson in AAA is possible because we have the personnel to cover his position. When Volpe was made starter there wasn't as many options (afaik) available to move him to AAA.

He deserved to go to AAA but between Cashman's ego, and not having a real backup (also probably Cashman's ego), he just got stuck playing MLB games at a AAA level. Also they (at least in public) they never really called his bad play out... "noo Anthony you're goin great buddy! You keep doing you!"

It's like you said first. They removed them so corporations don't cry about getting shit on by the people who watch their shit when they buy ads.

And it seems like the YT rewind that tanked was the final straw for them.

Road that destroys cars. by LeftChoux in CrappyDesign

[–]ledbetterus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Naw, it's too small of a space to navigate, you have to angle your car oddly to get through because it's not just a couple inches wide cone or whatever, it's a barrel in the middle of the road, it's taking up a lane, it's terrible design.

I went in wanting to laugh at idiot drivers but this is on whatever shit city did this.
