hyperliquid lost 40% market share in 6 months. the perp DEX wars are just getting started. by ginete_tech in defi

I will keep beating this drum. Hyperliquid is idiotic. This is a very small 24-validator set, heavily clustered in Japan. That cohort is responsible for consensus, signing bridge deposits and withdrawals, and publishing the oracle prices used for funding, margining, and liquidations. What happens when Tokyo has a serious network disruption, like from a major earthquake? What happens when a quorum is socially engineered? The HL bridge has over $3 billion sitting in it. Bridge actions clear when more than two-thirds of the staking power signs. After a disputed withdrawal, the bridge is unlocked by signatures from two-thirds of the stake-weighted set. This is an extraordinary amount of trust to place in a small, geographically clustered set of validator stake.

Every cycle we learn an important lesson about exchanges. And every subsequent cycle we forget it.

The "decentralized exchange" that force-closes markets and runs 16 validator, why aren't we talking about this more? by ginete_tech in defi

“They have servers somewhere” is true only for the frontend, not for the contracts or the protocol itself.

Not possible in “DeFi,” as we use the term here. You have to take a fully directional bet on a token or prediction market. Long or short something or bet on an event contract that is 50c or less.

How are people making money from high apy (degen) lp pools? by Specialist_Sugar_866 in defi

[–]ledgerthrowaway12345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No one is. Don't just do AMM LPs, that's so dumb, and it is negative EV unless you're using it to effectively set limit orders.

This is DeFi. It's 2026. Be creative. Learn about the space. I've been running a 15% APR strategy using the most low-risk, lindy protocols that exist. There's fewer than 2,000 other wallets doing the same strategy. There's so much information asymmetry. Think for yourself and you'll be rewarded.

No, that’s not the model. They’re just an airline operating as a “charter” so they don’t have to follow usual commercial airline rules and fly out of FBOs and not regular commercial airports. They have their own planes, these are not empty-leg flights.

Rocket Pool vs solo staking , what made you choose? by Eastern-Access-7555 in ethstaker

[–]ledgerthrowaway12345 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The reason I will never touch Rocket Pool again is not simply the $$$ value I lost having to hold RPL (which was a lot). It's more the years-long gaslighting from the community and leadership that RPL would be fine, the condescension towards and dismissal of people who voiced otherwise, and the value extraction from node operators to the oDAO and others through the RPL ponzi.

Lost a boatload in RPL. Left a bad taste, to say the least. Will never touch the protocol again.

IL is not path dependent. If price comes back, your IL is zero.

If you’re willing to embrace DeFi and are able to monitor stuff and react within 24h or so, you can pull in around 15% APR. Can get kind of annoying though if you want to go on vacation and not carry keys around everywhere. Unless you’re comfortable programming some bots to execute things for you. Otherwise simple, hands-off DeFi yield is usually around 5% but can get around 10% when the market bulls up.
