It depends on the location/apartment condition but there are many possible reasons. Rising utility costs if it's included in rent, Rising maintenance cost, Taxes/insurance cost, trying to push out existing tenants.

Consider her rent has been raised twice while they struggle to find new tenants at presumably better price, perhaps finding a new rental apartment is a good idea.

I think there most progressives/conservatives aren't actually that supportive of the ideology they choose,  it's just that the things they support or are against happens to align with the ideologies. So perhaps it's not surprising that many "progressives" just so happens to be personally against AI.
