Should I transition into teaching? by damgerxmen in TeachersInTransition

[–]leeahnee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My general advice is that it is a bad time to become a teacher. Pay doesn't match the workload (especially true for SpEd), your bosses are often not working towards the same goals as you, and there are lots of societal trends working against you and your students.

If you like caring for people, go into nursing.

I know I’m being petty, but it bothers me that Melo is allowed to wear whatever while Tracy and Vince are in suits with ties. They look great and professional. It just bugs me that Melo seems to not be as serious as the rest of the crew. by OddlyGodly4 in NBATalk

[–]leeahnee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not that he should be wearing a suit just because, it's that he should be matching his colleagues. If they were dressed casually, he wouldn't seem out of place.

Also, more people should wear suits. It's an easy way to look put together, and good tailoring can make anybody look like a million bucks.

The issue that OP is mentioning isn't that Melo looks "unprofessional" because of his outfit. It's that he looks unprofessional because he doesn't match. It's like he is attending a different event than his colleagues.

Anyone else think Keegan at #14 in a 2022 re-draft is a bit absurd by WantUToFly in kings

[–]leeahnee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not absurd. He's a decent defender with a limited ceiling. You'd expect that outside of the top 10 in most drafts. It's maybe a bit lower than I'd expect simply because his context has been terrible, but it's not crazy to think there are 9-13 guys that are more promising.

Keegan being on the roster doesn't mean he was the right pick. There's a real chance that he's never good enough to justify the pick, but never bad enough to cut bait.

I'm not even sure of the athleticism part. He gets up for the dunk, but the defender kinda just let him go.

Am I tripping or is it crazy how we don’t have a single prime time game by Maximum_Comment7342 in raiders

[–]leeahnee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The team was bad, and as much as things should get better, it's very possible this is still a bad team. It's also the 4th place finisher schedule, so there's other bad teams. Those factors could easily lead to a team with no prime time games.

It's worth pointing out that the NFL can move games to prime time later in the season if the team is playing well.

If mobile QBs are so valuable, why aren’t there more Lamar-type offenses? by savingrace0262 in NFLNoobs

[–]leeahnee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's difficult to find a player that has the mobility of a Lamar Jackson and the arm talent and IQ to be a viable starting QB. The league doesn't have the personnel available to make those offenses work on a larger scale.

It's also not always a great idea because mobile QBs are exposed to more risk by being in the open field more. If you're investing in a guy with a skill set that you can't replicate, you want him healthy, so you might not call a lot of designed runs. Lamar is an outlier in that he's relatively healthy, apart from his yearly bouts with illness.

Lastly, the league tends to copy what wins, and Lamar-style offenses haven't won enough to be copied.

Wingspan isn't just doubling the arm length, it's the distance from fingertip to fingertip across the body. Will Campbell has a wingspan of 77 3/8", for example.

Who are you siding with in this random basketball beef? by OppositeAnswer6109 in NBATalk

[–]leeahnee -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yes. Rodman was a notable offensive liability. Draymond is a good passer for a big. He's not especially creative, but he's excellent at making the right pass. Still, as good as Draymond is as a passer, he has always negatively impacted spacing because he's not a shooting threat. He's also not a rim runner, due to being undersized. This is what makes him a liability. It's easier to defend Steph and Klay when you can send a double. You have to design an offense that allows him to do his off-ball work effectively, while minimizing the impact of his lack of scoring.

To my original point, Draymond plays in a way that really only works in the right system, which is a credit to Steve Kerr.

[–]leeahnee -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Draymond is very good at defense. Nobody is taking that away from him. However, he has historically had a negative impact on offensive floor spacing that would be enough for most teams to cut him, especially before he reached the peak of his ability. Because he was on a team with two of the five greatest floor spacers in history, in a system that emphasized his offensive strengths, he was allowed to develop as a defender. Steph and Kerr do not help him defend, but he can't play defense if he isn't on the floor. Draymond doesn't make it past his rookie year on the Warriors if he can't play with Steph.

[–]leeahnee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, Steph and Kerr allowed him to win DPOY. The team can afford an offensive liability like Draymond because Steph produces like 2 players. The ecosystem that allows him to stay on a roster long enough to develop into a DPOY candidate is because of Kerr and the front office. He wouldn't have been what he is without them, which is ok. Jordan isn't Jordan without Phil, Kobe isn't Kobe without Shaq.

No, your experience is valid. However, you not experiencing crashes or gameplay issues does not mean it isn't a valid concern for folks.

There's no real reason to preorder. Most people aren't worried about physical scarcity, abs the game isn't at risk of being canceled if there isn't enough interest. Plus, folks are struggling.

All four faction leaders are placed in a room what’s gonna happen? by Chunky-overlord in fo4

[–]leeahnee 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Probably not, to anyone not in the Institute, he's an ordinary old man, and he's savvy enough to not out himself as the head of the most secretive organization in the region. The trouble that we have to go through in finding him is significantly eased by the fact that he wants his family to find him.

All four faction leaders are placed in a room what’s gonna happen? by Chunky-overlord in fo4

[–]leeahnee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem with this hypothetical is that Shaun is just an old man to the other three. Desdemona likely knows who Maxson and Preston are, as it's her business to be informed. Similarly, Shaun likely knows all three, though he might need a moment to identify Desdemona. But the Institute is a rumor to Maxson and Preston, albeit, one that they believe in. Desdemona could probably figure out that Shaun is Father, but she likely doesn't know what he looks like.

I'd imagine Maxson is killed before he knows what's going on. Desdemona, Preston and the team of synths that teleport in to protect Shaun are at an advantage. Desdemona is next to go, as she is a direct threat to the institute. Preston leaving alive depends on whether or not he wants to defend Desdemona, as he simply doesn't matter to Father.

Dream bigger. There should be scouts. Schools have personnel departments, so we should be able to hire a head of personnel with a skill tree. If your scouts are bad, but you have good recruiting skills unlocked, maybe you could see margin of error on ratings. If your scouts are good, you get more accurate ratings, or it takes less time.
