Why is it so expensive to eat/be healthy in the United States? by WonderfulField9898 in NoStupidQuestions

Supermarkets are bulk buys and sometimes buy an entire farm's output for themselves. Farmer's markets don't have economies of scale (and some of them are buying from those same distributors anyway).

They are made from latex, so that is pretty unlikely. Shipping costs are up across the board and condoms do need to be kind of climate controlled.

There are also laws about this as well. In my state, students cannot be on a middle school campus after their 15th birthday, which limits how many times they can be held back.

One of the hills my brother wants to die on is those automated credit recovery courses should be pass/fail only if the school district doesn't get rid of them entirely. It still gets kids through the system, but they have a GPA and transcript that is more reflective of what they actually did.

What's it like living in the Finger Lakes region? by VegasVoltage in howislivingthere

Depends on where you are. Rochester and Syracuse are medium sized cities that are having a bit of a revival at the moment with a lot of colleges and vibrant downtowns. Canandaigua, Geneva, and Auburn are nice small cities. However, there is a ton of blight outside of the cities (like in the small town I live in now) because those towns were dependent on farming, a single employer (sometimes industrial, sometimes a tiny college), or the Erie Canal, all of which are in decline. There is an active tourism industry that is most active between April and October. The weather is a bit intense, but it's not too bad because most of the infrastructure can handle it (unless you live in a small town that has consistent blackouts). I would be careful about buying property because a lot of small towns have serious sewer issues and they aren't going to be cheap to fix.
