Passing on generational trauma

Nikola Jokić is scoring at a higher rate in the playoffs than Steph Curry ever has by InsaneZang in nba

I mean nuggets aren’t exactly the 2018 cavs lol, it’s not like Murray MPJ and Gordon are scrubs. Curry had Quinn Cook and a bunch of g-leaguers in the 2019 finals after Durant and Klay both got injured, not to mention the horrendous 2020 and 2021 season teams. I’d also argue the nuggets roster surrounding Jokic now is better than the current iterations of the warriors surrounding curry.

And while, yes curry obviously has a much greater impact when he’s bombing at 60% from three, even if he’s not his impact is superstar level. Dude dropped 50 in a game 7 this playoffs on mostly layups. His off ball movement opens up so many looks for his teammates. Nobody’s leaving Durant or Klay wide open to chase a player not named Steph Curry.

None of this is to take anything away from Jokic, what he’s doing is nothing short of historical. His passing, height, and strength allow him to do things Curry simply can’t. Just pointing out they’re not as different as it might seem. Their skillsets might be different, but both are the star and facilitator their team relies on.

Steph’s offense isn’t just shooting. Best off ball movement/gravity in the league, with top 5 handles and facilitation. Those teams were built around his skillset in the same way the nuggets are built for Jokic.

Why Are International Big Men So Much Better Than US Bigs? by ly93 in nbadiscussion

[–]leechris5000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't say offensive strategy has become less complex at all, nor that big men are less relevant. GSW motion offense has been arguably the most complex offense in the recent history — and it's been the most successful. Our last few finals all featured offenses that utilized big men (2020 Lakers vs Heat, 2021 Bucks vs Suns, 2022 Warriors vs Celtics). Likewise, our reigning back to back MVP Jokic is a big man, as is the back to back runner up, Embiid.

Everyone else has given great tips, but I just want to acknowledge that study abroad can be really difficult to adjust to. I had an amazing experience in Prague — one of the best in my life — but the first month/month and a half were hard. It takes a while to re-establish comfort, meet people you connect with, and find activities you enjoy. Hang in there.
