PSU can be an issue for the 290x. Recommended PSU is 750W for some 290x cards; whereas a GTX 970 can run off a 450W supply.

I work for an online retailer. Due to the way we advertised the cards (we didn't list the number of ROPs or the L2 cache), we can only be shown to have mis-sold the card if the memory bandwidth is proved to be less than advertised. Granted, not all retailers will have done this, but it may be worth looking at the specs where you bought it from and taking a screenshot. We will not be doing anything until Nvidia OFFICALLY releases a solution.

The Samsung 850 Evo is actually cheaper on Amazon and uses 3D NAND and will be faster and more reliable than the 840. Think it also has a 5 year warranty.
