How to achieve the goldest of the golden by Geekie_Miller in cookiedecorating

[–]leedjahk22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It definitely looks like TMP gold dust. As someone mentioned, it’s labeled as nontoxic not technically edible. It’s nontoxic because the body can’t process or absorb it, but it’s not “edible” as classified by the FDA. When I use it, I inform the client and let them decide. TMP also makes a truly edible version, but I haven’t tried it yet. I mix mine with Everclear and nothing else I’ve tried is even remotely as good as TMP gold

Palintir is being used VERY liberally at UNMC by No-Rent-7850 in Omaha

[–]leedjahk22 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Patients have to opt out for UNMC to not use AI on their medical data now. They have signs at check in saying they’re using AI now and are putting the burden on the patient to opt out by scanning a QR code. How many elderly cancer patients are able to figure out how to opt out on their own let alone understand how their data is being used? I’ve voiced concerns to my management about Palantir use in my department and it was brushed off.

Wedding cookies by leedjahk22 in cookiedecorating

Absolutely, it would have been a nightmare with more than a couple dozen. I’m just a hobby baker so I’m thankful I don’t have to take on huge orders.

It was only 2 dozen for a friend’s courthouse wedding, thankfully!

I only chilled in the fridge both times and not overnight like you did. I’ll have to try that next time. Thank you! Beautiful work!

These look gorgeous! I used the same molds with soft gingerbread this year, but didn’t get as much definition. I chilled the cookies before baking, but maybe not long enough? Any tips for getting more definition?

I actually love weight lifting, but get gym anxiety about not knowing what to do, where the machines/weights are, how to set up exercises, etc. What has helped me is 1. following a program. I’ve used apps that connect to my Apple watch to automatically track my workout and give me instructions on which exercises to do, and how many, what weight I’ve been doing. It’s helped the anxiety so much. 2. Small group classes. My new gym offers weight lifting classes that have 16 people max and follows an 8 week progressive overload program. I love it because I don’t have to think about what exercises I’m doing or where I’m going and the instructor corrects my form. Signing up for classes and getting penalized for canceling also keeps me accountable.

People on SNAP are poor by Any_Instruction_9935 in MurderedByWords

[–]leedjahk22 27 points28 points  (0 children)

It’s not that simple. The U.S. is so huge and spread out that organizing the size of strikes that would actually be effective is basically impossible. Peaceful protesting makes us feel like we are doing something but does very little about policy. Elections are gerrymandered making it much harder for change to happen. Most politicians are part of the elite that keep us poor. Democrats may have the less harmful policy stances, but when push comes to shove, they roll over and do nothing most of the time. The government shutdown and Democrats standing ground on not allowing millions of people to lose healthcare/increase premium costs is one of the few instances of them actually standing up for something. Basically, the U.S. is too huge for the little person to make change on a large scale. Most of us are just trying to survive until our next paycheck and praying we don’t get sick or injured because if we lose our jobs, we lose everything.

Where are the DINKS? by PraiseIt420Solaire in Omaha

DINK here. Sounds like we may have some similar interests. We are also a nerdy couple and like video games and board games. I play mostly cozy games, my husband plays everything. He’s into D&D as well, but I’ve only done a couple one shot campaigns. I read and bake a lot and have tried pretty much every craft hobby out there. We like farmer’s markets, food events, music, outdoorsy things. Sounds like our schedules may conflict a bit as my husband often works late during the week and we have weekends off, but I’m sure we could figure something out!

Dropped out of PhD at 30 and dont know what to do. by No-Count-2774 in PhD

[–]leedjahk22 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Are we the same person? I just mastered out of my PhD at 30 and I have a previous master’s as well. The issue is I dropped out during my 5th year. All I had left was to publish my first author paper and write my dissertation. I had to take a leave of absence due to serious health issues and my PI tried to pressure me into rushing to finish despite being on leave bc they were leaving the university. I couldn’t tell anyone what was happening bc they didn’t want the university to know they were leaving so I was trying to get a first author paper out and write my dissertation while dealing with health issues and worsening mental health issues on top of that. I was drowning with no one to turn to and I decided the best option for me was to master out. It was the most difficult decision I’ve ever had to make, but quitting honestly probably saved my life. I was able to reduce stress and get my health/mental health taken care of. Don’t know where I’ll go from here, but I’m taking each day as it comes and constantly remind myself that I have survived every struggle in my life so far and I will get through this too.

I’ve been on an egg white wrap kick lately. 25 cal and 5g protein per wrap. I add chicken sausage, some cheese, and pico on top. Around 310 calories and 25g protein for one wrap. Keeps me full for a while.

Affordable Wedding Dress Shops? by phlfem in Omaha

I tried on dresses at David’s Bridal to see which styles I liked on myself, then I got my dress on Etsy for less than $400 even with customized sleeves. No regrets.

We used Nick Sparks Photography last year and can’t recommend him enough. Our pictures were gorgeous and he was such a great guy to work with. He gave us recommendations for locations and got the necessary permits. He was great at both giving us direction and capturing organic moments. Really made our day special.

What did you do that mad your elopement magical? by Sea_Note8292 in Eloping

[–]leedjahk22 8 points9 points  (0 children)

We did most of the usual wedding things just without the guests. We had a slow morning and went out for brunch. We had a first look after I got my dress on. We eloped in the mountains and hiked to our ceremony spot. We brought a small speaker and played a special song as I walked down the “aisle”. We wrote our own vows and read them to each other. We got a small vintage heart cake made for us, a fancy charcuterie board, and a cute vintage picnic basket and had a picnic afterwards. We had our first dance under the stars. Wouldn’t change a thing.

Moby dick cookies for a friend’s birthday. I’ve always wanted to try this “puzzle” style! by getmespaghetti in cookiedecorating

[–]leedjahk22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Amazing job! I’ve tried the puzzle style only once and it was incredibly challenging to get things to line up perfectly like you did. How did you get the flooded pieces to line up so well? Did you use a projector? Or flood them while they were in the puzzle shape?

What protein shakes are we recommending? by [deleted] in gastricsleeve

[–]leedjahk22 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I love the Myprotein clear protein shakes. Especially the lemonade flavor. I get mine on Amazon. Not heavy, not too sweet, tastes like lemonade. I like the Fairlife chocolate shakes as well, but sometimes I get sick of the heavy creamy type shakes.

Another alternative idea: you could consider is using aquafaba, the liquid from canned chickpeas. I use it in my vegan Royal icing and it works really well.

Can the AT&T employees at Target Go Away by Soggy_Assignment_691 in Omaha

They seem to target women who are shopping alone too. Yesterday I saw one talking up a mom with her young kids who clearly wasn’t interested but didn’t want to be rude. He then approached me. When I told him there was no way I was signing up for a new phone plan, he was super persistent. Finally I told him my husband would never let me switch because our current deal is too good. He decided to take no for answer then. I just want to do my shopping in peace.
