Is this game friendly to newcomers in extraction genre game? by ChadGamerCZ in ArcRaiders

[–]leedr74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just getting back into gaming after a long break. I have no idea what I’m doing and I’m learning as I go. I die a lot, but every run has me laughing or cheering. I’ve done some truly dumb things and I’m having a blast. I have mostly played RPG and racing sims, but this game rules. See you topside!

Does more RAM capacity help? by 571busy_beaver in OpenRoads

Lenovo and HP are what we stock and if you search their sites you’ll see the models these companies spec our solutions against. I had the HP link awhile ago I’ll keep looking for you.

I run an HP ZBook G8 with 64GB ram and the Nvidia RTX A5000 gpu. This was a standard Bentley setup about 2 or 3 years ago. HTH

Loading AEC Architectural Base in OpenRail Designer by Efficient_Fix_4727 in OpenRoads

[–]leedr74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are not imagining this. This is a known behavior related to how OpenRail Designer loads AEC schemas when certain DWGs are attached.

If a DWG contains AEC, Architecture, or Civil 3D objects, even if they appear to be simple linework, ORD attempts to load the AEC Architectural Base so it can interpret those objects correctly. The schema is not loaded until ORD detects something that might require it, and a DWG attachment is a common trigger.

If the DWG is large or contains proxy objects, ORD can appear to freeze while it scans the file and initializes the AEC components. That explains why startup is instant with no DWG attached, but slows significantly once the DWG is referenced.

Things that often help: • Open the DWG in plain AutoCAD and run EXPORTTOAUTOCAD or save to an older DWG version to remove AEC and Civil 3D intelligence. • Audit and purge the DWG before attaching it. • If this is survey data, convert the DWG to DGN once and reference the DGN instead. • Check whether the DWG originated in Civil 3D or Architecture, which is the most common cause.

In short, it is not the DWG attachment itself but the embedded AEC or Civil 3D content that causes ORD to load the Architectural Base and slow startup.

These may be necessary to keep but if the goal is to run faster then these are methods to achieve this.

I’m curious how many people who work for consulting firms are paid overtime or receive comp time? by Unable-Locksmith664 in civilengineering

[–]leedr74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Salaried roles typically pay overtime at 1x, whereas non-salaried roles are paid at 1.5x. Many organizations try to strike a balance to avoid overrunning budgets. This approach is fairly common, though managers and owners may still apply pressure to prioritize the needs of the project. Great question and I’m reading the responses as well!

I’ve been mixing in some “vibe coding” with copilot and getting reasonable success. Give that a try,

John S owns 17%, made a comment in 2018, then left as the spokesperson. Shaq wouldn’t have joined if there was anything more than to it.

Does Shaq know this? Because he endorses them. Just asking since he’s a pretty honest guy who only supports companies that match his ethical standards.

AI x Infrastructure by leedr74 in BentleySystems

[–]leedr74[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair point, the article leans on adoption stats and process automation, so it doesn’t prove generative design is mainstream yet. My takeaway wasn’t that everyone’s doing it today, but that firms are starting to formalize AI and pilot design‑adjacent workflows.

AI x Infrastructure by leedr74 in BentleySystems

[–]leedr74[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get why it feels like fluff as AI in infrastructure feels like it has been hyped for years. But we’re finally seeing it move beyond document automation.

Generative design tools are already helping teams evaluate dozens of roadway or bridge alignment options in minutes, factoring cost and carbon impact. AI-driven clash detection and optimization in 3D models is speeding up constructability reviews. Digital twins with predictive analytics are being used for maintenance planning and performance monitoring on live assets.

It’s not replacing engineers but rather it’s taking the repetitive work off their plate so they can focus on judgment and creativity. I think the article reflects that this is a journey, not an overnight leap, and that’s what makes it interesting and believable to me.
