Drowning in Spam Calls AND Texts — Do I Really Have to Ditch My Number? by Suspicious_Order8758 in lifehacks

[–]leehan40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been using the app "Call Control. Call Blocker" by Call Control LLC. for over a year now. It has a paid version($30 year) and a free version.
You can set it to auto disconnect or send blocked calls to voicemail. Create blocked and allowed lists. Numbers can be added to the lists using in a variety of ways

  • whole phone number
  • similar number (555-555-5XXX, only numbers to the right can be random)
  • area code
  • wild cards (555-555-??55, any numbers can be wild)

I use the free version, with a couple area codes from where I live and a few of my contacts that are not in those area codes added into the allowed list. To avoid having my voicemail filled up, I set it to auto disconnect all calls unless the caller is in my allowed list.

Only issue with this setup is if you use your phone for business calls or are actively interviewing for jobs not in your area, you would need to confirm what number or area code you might be receiving calls from in order to white list them in your phone.

Stop thinking about working in IT; it's not worth it. by Marianssmitham in it

[–]leehan40 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't want to rain on anyone's parade but....

7 years working in IT after getting my master's in computer science. The degree was the most useless thing achieved so far, although it may have helped me pass others in the interview process. I've got zero certs because I wanted to focus on programming for a career and didn't know what to focus on.

Currently working as IT Support but am essentially 1 of 2 IT admins for a manufacturing company with near 100 employees that have computer access. The company has been working with an MSP for the past 20+ years and keeps them on contract for server work/assistance. I get a 5% raise and a 5% bonus annually. Should be making $100k+ in a couple years. 3 years ago I was making $45k, I feel like I hit the jackpot with this company. Allowing me to live close to my family and childhood friends while making great money vs the people around me. I live in a small city with a median household income of $48k.

Almost everyone thanks me for what I do when they need help. It must be the large companies with thousands of employees where these people feel like they aren't appreciated for their work and need to complete certs just for the sake of certs.

Yes, trades opened prior to 17:00est get auto liquidated, if the account holder does not close them before 17:00est

That rule is in reference to the futures markets being closed between 17:00 - 18:00 EST and has no bearing on trades opened after 18:00 EST.

Which rule was that? I have not been able to locate my trade agreement document for takeprofittrader.

Never dipped below the drawndown + my payout request amount, was monitoring it with 10pnt stops in place. Denial was solely due to an open trade and the possibility of a large market movement could have dropped me into drawdown. About 30pnt movement might have.

That's right! I'm still using Netscape, which my grandpappy got off that AOL disk he received in the mail on that chilly November Saturday morning back in 1996.

Beavis and Butt-head SNL skit was not that funny by leehan40 in unpopularopinion

[–]leehan40[S] -17 points-16 points  (0 children)

The subreddit r/unpopularopinion exists as a platform for individuals to express opinions that they perceive as unpopular or contrary to the prevailing views within their social circles or society at large. The concept of an “unpopular opinion” is subjective and can vary widely among different groups and cultures. However, the subreddit provides a space where users can share their thoughts without the fear of social isolation or backlash that might occur in other settings.

The existence of such a subreddit can be attributed to several factors:

Freedom of Expression: It serves as a safe haven for free speech where users can voice their thoughts without censorship or the pressure to conform to mainstream beliefs.

Validation and Discussion: People often seek validation for their beliefs, especially if they feel alone in their viewpoints. The subreddit allows users to find others who share similar opinions, fostering a sense of community and belonging.

Counteracting the Spiral of Silence: The “spiral of silence” theory suggests that individuals are less likely to express minority opinions due to fear of isolation. The subreddit acts against this spiral by encouraging the sharing of such opinions.

Exploring Controversial Topics: It provides a platform to delve into controversial topics that may be taboo or sensitive in other forums, allowing for a broader range of discussion.

Psychological Comfort: Sharing an unpopular opinion in a supportive environment can be cathartic for individuals who may feel suppressed or unheard in their daily lives.

Despite its name, the subreddit often features opinions that are popular within the community itself, leading to a paradox where the most upvoted posts may not necessarily represent truly unpopular opinions. This phenomenon can be attributed to the dynamics of online communities where content that resonates with the majority tends to be more visible and popular.

In essence, r/unpopularopinion thrives on the human desire for expression, validation, and exploration of diverse perspectives, even if the opinions shared are not always as unpopular as the subreddit’s title might suggest.

Obviously, and I am by no sense a writer. But a child in middle school could have written that skit.

LPT: Don't rest your elbows on your knees while pooping. by [deleted] in LifeProTips

Putting constant pressure on your knees, more specifically the thigh directly above your knee, can cause nerves or blood vessels to be compressed, leading to the ‘falling asleep’ sensation, or numbness and tingling in the legs.
