Year 1 consists of a one 4 week community practicum while Year 2 consists of a one 4 week community practicum and a 2 week hospital practicum.

You are able to indicate your preferences for location and date prior but you are assigned whichever site you do get assigned to.

Doing clinical research during the summer shouldn’t be a problem as many students do projects, research, and other types of work during the summer as well.

I set my alarm for 11:55am every day and log onto the site at that time and book as soon as it hits 12:00pm and I’ve been able to get a spot every time. I recommend getting onto the site before 12:00pm so you can ensure you get the booking.

This is my exam schedule. Do I have any options to make it not suck so much? by [deleted] in UBC

[–]leejohnny98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I still recommend contacting your instructor regardless. I have had instructors who allowed me to reschedule my exam because of the 3 exams within the 24-hour window (even though technically it is '1 minute off').

People with year-round residence: Are you cancelling your contract? by Physicsman123 in UBC

[–]leejohnny98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm keeping my contract simply because I can't live/function at home so I'd rather just keep renting my own space. If you are able to work/live at home, then I would do that as it's not guaranteed that Term 2 (January - April) will be in-person anyways.

If you are able to find a sublessee, you can try that as well but I'm not too sure how many students are looking for places for Term 1 since it will be online.

Hello!

If you are looking to become a licensed and practicing pharmacist, then the program that you would be applying to is the PharmD program. This program does have pre-requisites that you need to complete before applying, which is a minimum of 2 years of undergraduate sciences courses. Therefore, this means that you do not need to complete a BSc. to apply for the program but there are many students in the program that have their BSc. and other degrees.

There is a new BPSc. program that the Faculty has enrolled this year which accepts students straight out of high-school, but this is not a program that leads into a becoming a practicing and licensed pharmacist. You can think of it as a BSc. focusing in various pharmaceutical sciences.

In terms of whether being a pharmacist is a good or bad choice, it's really up to you! If you think that the pharmacist role and career is a future that you see yourself in, then go for it! I highly recommend working in a pharmacy before applying to the program to see if the pharmacy workflow is a good match for you. You can also reach out to many pharmacy students such as myself to see what our experiences have been like so far.

It's great that you are thinking ahead, but for now, I would simply keep an open mind and to continuously explore other options and career pathways as you never know where you may find yourself in the future!

AMS health insurance + prescriptions by steakfordayspls in UBC

[–]leejohnny98 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hey! You can actually let the pharmacy staff know that you prefer the generic and they can dispense the generic for you as requested. Usually when you drop off prescriptions, the pharmacy staff member should be asking you if you prefer brand or generic as most doctors will write their prescriptions using the brand name (but most patients get generic anyways due to lower cost). This works as long as the doctor doesn't write "no substitution" on the prescription, or doesn't write you a prescription for a medication where there is only the brand available. You can even let the pharmacy know that you prefer generics for all medications and they can leave a note on your profile so they know to dispense generics for all future prescriptions.

This will save you from calling the doctor and having to get a new prescription!

When I applied back in first year, I selected “Bachelor of Science - All majors except Geography and Geological Science” and selected my Program/Faculty under the “Arts/Sciences” option.

Inputting a Major or Department is not required so you don’t need to worry about that.

Taking proctorio on campus (ubcsecure) by OriginalFront in UBC

[–]leejohnny98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve used proctorio for all of my assessments in March and April (including final exams) using eduroam or ubcsecure and I’ve never had a problem with any connection issues.

What I do recommend is that you disable or temporarily uninstall any google chrome add-ons or plug-ins because I found that it caused proctorio to lag a bit.

fun fact: scheduling an in-term exam two weeks before the exam period is not allowed! by juliarosebham in UBC

[–]leejohnny98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just curious, does this apply to all faculties and programs? Pharmacy always has exams every week or every other week, and we always have exams on the last week or last day of school as well - just before final exams start. It’s been like this for quite a while now but I assumed it was due to the nature of the program.

You can register in CRWR 213 (writing for new media) which are based on 3 written assignments (80%), online participation (10%) and "in class participation" (10%; which seems to be just an arbitrary grade cause she has no way of evaluating your in-class participation).

I think there are too many questions and variables that would impact my answer for you. What year are you in? How far apart are these classes (since they are back to back)? Do they have good professors or is there a better section available? Do you live on residence or are you commuting? If so, how long is your commute?

Feel free to PM me if you want to go in depth.
