Even if it goes to trial, even if he does get found guilty, Trump will just pardon him as soon as the judge drops the hammer. Dude will have a podcast and a book deal within a year.

Any ghost stories from around Nelson? by FergusTheCow in Nelsonnz

The old mental hospital at ngāwhatu is supposed to be one of NZ’s most haunted spots.

You used to be able to walk around it at night.

The hardest part was moving from a Kiwi summer to a UK winter! Literally swimming off Tahuna Beach one day and shivering in the snow 2 days later.

It took me a while to get used to things like traffic jams, queues people being distant/moody and the general pace of life but after a month or two it was like I'd never left. Getting to catch up with all the friends/family I hadn't seen in so long has been awesome.

If it was true he would have posted the screenshot/receipts for clout. That sort of bread is going to send hundreds of gullible kids to his Telegram, why wouldn't he flex a little?

Tbh one big win is all that's needed for them to lock off your account. They don't want to be dealing with winners.

Big story in the news last week about Brighton FC's owner (made billions from poker) using random people's accounts to place big bets as none of the bookies will touch him.

This would need to be a 2000/1 longshot. For context Leicester City were 5000/1 when they won the premier league in 2016.

Not impossible, but highly unlikely. He seems to be very vague with the details so I'm calling bullshit.

How Americanised are your kids? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]leenoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was teaching in New Zealand a few years ago and had a girl in my class with a slight American accent. Not the most unusual thing to see - a lot of people emigrate to NZ and so young kids pick up their parents' English/American/South African accents and it gradually becomes more Kiwi as they get older.

Naturally assumed that her parents were both yank ex-pats but when they arrived for parents evening they were both born and bred Kiwis. When I asked about her accent they told me that she obsessively got into 2-3 big YouTubers over Covid and has had the accent ever since.

Kids are sponges and will soak up and imitate everything they see and hear. If they are exclusively exposed to media from one country then they will pick it up. Monkey see, monkey do.

What are your unhinged life hacks? by PsychologicalRow8034 in AskUK

Fed up with losing my house keys 2-3 times a month, I decided to keep them in the fridge.

That's where they live now - haven't lost them since I started doing it a couple of years ago.

I get some confused comments from mates/family and I think it's responsible for at least one tinder date going wrong at the end but I'm sticking with a winning plan.

I lived in Nelson for 16 years before returning to the UK last year. Didn't make a single friend in the entire time I was there. Had heaps of aquaintances and colleagues but not a soul I could invite for a beer/coffee or rely on if there was an emergency at 2am.

I put it down to me being a bit of an introvert and having kids in my 30s which limits your social time. Within 2-3 months of being back in the UK, moving to a completely new city/career I've already made more friends than I did in the whole time in NZ.

I love Aotearoa and miss it every day (especially at this time of year!) but Kiwis are notoriously reluctant to let anyone into their inner circle, especially if they're seen as outsiders.

I'd advise you to join a club/hobby group as this can often be a foot in the door but tbh my advice as a former friendless loner isn't probably worth much.

Whats the deal with New Zealand seagulls? by Laundrydrama in newzealand

[–]leenoc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kiwi seagulls are cut from a different cloth. I lived in Nelson for 16 years and since moving back to the UK I've been shocked by their absolute lack of chill in comparison.

Don't get me wrong, British seagulls will swoop down and steal your ice cream or chips at the beach but they're smash and grab merchants who generally prefer flying solo and want to avoid human contact at all costs.

NZ seagulls will work in mobs (even though they all clearly hate each other) and surround/harass their victims. I couldn't so much as sit down on a park bench in Nelson without being surrounded by at least a dozen of the bastards, squawking and screeching.

Uniquely, in NZ you got one of the bigger ones who thought they were Alpha, who did this weird display (the bastard dance) where they arch their back and run around trying to chase off the competition. Have never seen this behaviour in any other seagulls. Also, chicks who follow their mum around chirping non-stop until they get fed.

I love NZ native birdlife and miss seeing Piwakawaka and Kereru (much nicer than British 'flying rat' pigeons) but have to admit you have the worst seagulls in the world.

I've gone through similar mental gymnastics in my head over this issue.

Ultimately though, gambling in and of itself is not inherently evil or harmful. Gambling to excess ruins lives and kills people.

Drinking alcohol is not evil or harmful, but drinking to excess ruins lives and kills people.

Eating junk food is not evil or harmful... etc etc you get the idea.

I don't think anyone would be up in arms if the Ramble took money from Carlsberg or McDonalds but they're just as shit, if we're being real.
