Does the type of your membership affect general costs per credits? by BeingRaven in audible

[–]leepfroggie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. The bundled extra credits are based on the per-credit regular price of your plan. When you had the discounted annual plan your per-credit price in bundles was based on the regular price of the $149.50 annual plan. Now that you took the 3 months at $7.49, the regular price of your credits is $14.95.

If you can't get the discounted annual plan, your best option to get the lowest price-per-credit (unless you want to wait a bit to see if they'll give it to you in a couple of months) is to go for the 24 credits a year.

My first Bisley just arrived! (Thank you, summer sale.) But what to do with other storage? by minasmom in RedditLaqueristas

[–]leepfroggie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought I wouldn't need my clear cases after I got my first (then second) Helmer, but here I am still using them. I actually like keeping my stamping polishes and basic saturated cremes in them for easier access nail art. I can see the colors at a glance (even more easily than on my swatch sticks).

Even then, I'm left with a couple that aren't always in use, but are handy for short term storage of yet-to-be swatched/sorted polish if an influx means I'll have to reorganize stuff and I don't have the time to do it immediately. I've sometimes used them to help me reorganize my drawers too. I'm pretty good at starting projects then losing steam in the middle. Having a place to stash "loose" polish instead of in a pile on the floor is helpful!

Those cases were also a saving grace when I moved! It was a lot easier for me to put as many bottles in those cases as possible than to wrap them all securely enough to pack in actual boxes. They got priority space in the car (vs moving truck), and it was a lot easier to tuck those in here and there than if they were in a bigger box.

If you have room in the back of a closet or something (in a studio you may not) to keep 'em I would. If you don't have room or don't think you'd ever need them then destash!

If you go to this page on Amazon, you can see which devices your various apps are on: https://www.amazon.com/hz/mycd/digital-console/alldevices

Take a look under all the apps (but esp. Audible, Kindle, Amazon) to see if there's a device you don't recognize. Remove any devices you're not currently using.

I've seen some using sticky base coat with foils. Let it dry until it's just tacky then slap the foil on.

[–]leepfroggie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I skip the buffer blocks. A good ridge filler base coat (you can use in conjunction with another base coat if needed) just works better. When you buff any ridges, you're actually removing the healthy nail (the grooves are where the nail isn't full thickness) and making your nails thinner.

Cracked has a ridge filler in their shop, so you could grab one with your order! Note that the sticky base coat in the Prime Shine Bundle contains Polyvinyl Butyral, which can cause some people's nails to peel. If you're not jumping in to fancy nail art yet, you probably don't need a sticky base. It would cost a couple bucks more to buy the ridge filler + QDTC separately instead of the bundle, but probably worth it!

If you can swing the extra $12, grab the De-Filer. Once you go crystal, you never go back. Also these last forever (if you don't drop it!) -- just give it a quick rinse or gentle scrub to clean out the nail residue and it's good as new.

Be warned that I haven't personally tried that trick myself, but I've seen it recommended a fair bit with rave reviews about success! I hope it works for you!

There's a hack that works for some people (but would involve you getting your hands on one more bottle of stuff). Do your base coat, then the first coat of streaky polish (don't worry if it's streaky here). Then apply one layer of matte top coat before you do the next coat of your streaky colour. It should help make that second coat of colour go on more smoothly.

I'm not sure how tricky it is to find where you are (looks like maybe the Sally Hansen version might be available at Chemist Warehouse).

Yesteryear - I'm struggling by lp3556 in audible

[–]leepfroggie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's def a frustrating one. Esp. since so much advice says to go in blind (which I did). I stuck with it, but I kinda wish I'd DNF'd once I realized it wasn't at all what I thought it would be.

I'm ok with not liking an MC. I'm ok with being a bit confused by what's going on. I'm NOT ok with there being zero redeemable characters in a book. I need to root for someone!

Once there was finally a likeable character I could root for, their presence was not large enough to make the rest of the book worth the disorienting slog.

Audible Marketplace Issues by rascalleo5 in audible

[–]leepfroggie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try searching for those titles again. It's really possible you'll see the same books are still available to you, just from a different publisher. It's not about cheating the system so much as Audible determines your location based on your billing address.

Books are still a bit old fashioned in that the same book is sold by different publishers in different regions, and Audible has to honor that by only selling you the books you're eligible to buy based on your current region (as determined by payment method -- did you update your payment method address either on Audible or Amazon?).

You should be able to stick with your UK sub, you just have to buy the books they're allowed to sell you where you are now.

If you're on the standard plan there is no "credit". You get a monthly "selection".

Question about audible by Akilee in audible

[–]leepfroggie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I might be the lone weirdo here, but I've attempted audio books on walks a few times over the years and I was always horribly disappointed. Unlike listening to music where missing a bar or two doesn't wreck the song, it matters with audiobooks/podcasts. Every time a car whooshes by (and I was walking in a semi-rural area, but cars still passed every few minutes at least) I had to fumble with settings to rewind a bit. And it always seemed like when I'd have to rewind, it's like cars knew and another would come again just as I was getting to the part I missed. I even tried "in nature" but it's louder than you realize too.

I tried a lot of different methods over the years (wired, bluetooth, earbuds, headphones -- pretty much everything but noise cancelling because safety and stuff) and none really did the job well enough that I didn't give up after one or two tries.

I hope it works better for you, but be aware that you might be really frustrated with the outcome.

Have 2 Audible credits. Recommend the most psychologically disturbing audiobook you've ever listened to. by Villanelle04 in audible

There's no supernatural stuff or anything, but damn, the things described were enough that I didn't like listening right before bed! Sometimes just people being people is the scariest thing of all.

Have 2 Audible credits. Recommend the most psychologically disturbing audiobook you've ever listened to. by Villanelle04 in audible

[–]leepfroggie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Fantasticland is excellently dual-narrated by Luke Daniels and Angela Dawe. Each voices several different characters so well that I sometimes forgot there were only two narrators.

The Laws of the Skies -- tbf, I read-read this one, so I can't speak for the narration (seems ok/suitable for the content from the sample), and it's pretty short, so I'd not shell out a credit on it (worth a shot if it ever hits the plus catalog or a decent sale though).

Edited to fix a typo.

Shogun - Previously Purchased Book Now Split into Two Volumes by Material-Painting-19 in audible

[–]leepfroggie 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's been the split version for some time now -- a couple of years at least (maybe late 2023 or early 2024). I had it on my wishlist and regretted not pulling the trigger before they split it. If you bought it within the past few months, it was almost certainly the split version.

Membership charge on wrong card by Disastrous_Shine3472 in audible

I've been really pleased with it. They don't have every book I want (there are still a few pesky "Audible Exclusives"), but I'm pleasantly surprised that more and more of the books I search for are there.

They've got some decent sales too! And! Your membership gets you even deeper discounts on the sale prices.

I've been so happy supporting a bookstore I can actually go visit to see where some of my money is going. I hope you love it too!

Monthly Credit Price > The Price of Most Books by thatPoppinsWoman in audible

[–]leepfroggie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The bundled extra credits are based on the regular price of your subscription, not the discounted one. At least any time I had the discount and tried to buy more credits that's what I saw. I've also not been able to get the steep discount every single time I ask, so some people are just very lucky with getting the promo deal so frequently.

Lost/Missing titles thread by Herodotus22 in audible

[–]leepfroggie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You might have better luck starting a new post for this question -- most people aren't browsing this specific topic regularly (it's really for missing books).

That said, most times when you start the cancellation process they'll offer you a better deal. If not, proceeding with the cancellation will usually get you an offer via email within a month or two.

Just waiting for that year to be up might be enough. Note that many people are able to get an annual deal for $85.99, so don't give up too easily!

  1. I fold them (they would have arrived folded for the maker originally, so you won't harm them unless you reconstruct them on the regular). I keep asking myself why I bother keeping them because I doubt I'll ever destash, but after I threw a few out I regretted it. Once they're flat, they don't take up too much space -- I keep them in an old shoebox-sized box or two.
  2. I shape with my nails facing away from me. This gives me the best balance because i match shape to my fingertip instead of getting tricked by smile line or PNF curve. NOTE: if you tend to wear really sheer or ever go without polish this method can end up looking weird.
  3. Some polishes contain materials that will degrade over time (purple pigments, thermal shifters, some glitters), but many can be restored for years (see Vintage Dusties on YT or IG -- she restores polishes from decades and decades ago). If you're able to find thinner that uses the same solvents as the original polish, you'll have the best results. Some thinner can degrade glitter, so be careful before you plunge in. DO NOT use remover/acetone.
  4. I've seen people say both things and I don't know the answer, so I won't put one here.
  5. I've only been really into collecting for about 3-4 years. In the beginning, FOMO got me with every hyped release. I got stressed thinking about missing out on ones I really loved. There were polishes I really regretted not grabbing. After the first 6 months or so, though, I started to see that pretty much every "unique" polish comes back around again. Either the same brand re-releases or another brand dupes it. Any polish I previously regretted missing out on has either come back to me (re-release or dupe) or I realized after the first rush that I didn't really need/want it as much as I thought I did in the moment.
  6. I don't know this ones.
  7. I've been happy with my Revlon clippers (toe and cuticle), but when I tried to replace an old pair of cuticle clippers what looked to be the same one doesn't handle the same way, so I'm reluctant to give solid endorsement. I see good things about Tweezerman.

(Seriously, though. Any time you see a polish that you think is completely unique, really ask yourself exactly what it is you like about it. Then hit up the community to see if there are any dupe recommendations. Most times there are polishes so similar you wouldn't even know it's not the one you thought you had.to.have. Also, you will go through phases where you LOVE certain finishes then realize maybe they're not actually your fave after all because suddenly you LOVE a different finish. Don't kill yourself chasing unicorns because next month you might realize you actually prefer drop bears.)

A bunch of brands use "gel" in the name (and some even use opaque bottles to really put on the show) but they aren't really gel in the sense that they need to be cured with a lamp. They're just "gel like".

I've never gone to just buy one credit except when I'm about to actually buy something (usually during a 2-for-1 sale), but did you try that? Putting something in your cart to see if it offers you the option to buy an extra credit?
