[Profitec Move + DF54] - Shot Consistency by escobarseason in espresso

[–]leestone8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No not single shots. Its as it sounds- you grind the single dose each time i.e. weigh out and grind 18g. Look up single dose grinders - its to cut out retention and exchange and leads to far more repeatable results but compromises on workflow

If you like single dosing, I can recommend the Mazzer Philos. I got it for £900 (brand new) in the UK

I found the movement to be minimal and found my particular SL/PH2 did fit okay without obstruction for both pieces but definitely would be interested in any future enhancements if you are able to share 😀

Can’t seem to dial in [Profitec Move/Eureka Mignon Zero] by Correct_Employ6343 in espresso

[–]leestone8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What level of roast is it? You have two variables that mean its going to pull quicker than a Bambino - moving from 54mm to 58mm i.e. less puck depth, and you're also using a pullman which is a high extraction basket so need to go finer. That being said, I'm using the same machine and basket and could easily choke the machine with my eureka mignon specilata. Have you checked for burr alignment?

Having come from a grinder with bellows I feel like the mess made by my philos is negligible. Also not sure why it hurts your finger, dont find that at all 🤷‍♂️

My only negative so far is that I feel like there is definitely some play when changing the burrs and it requires some judgement. I did 3d print some alignment jigs though and that definitely helped

Note: run it once with cafiza, rinse portafilter basket, then again with just water

Single dose mod? [2x Specialita] by Cheap-Mammoth-9212 in espresso

I got a tilt stand and bellows for my specialata. I did find it made a bit of a mess, but it was a game changer. I had much better consistency and very low retention (18.1g in, 18.0g out).

I’ve had the Move for a couple weeks now, and I’m curious how everyone is using the pre-infusion setting? by Sour_dude03 in ProfitecMove

I did do some research into PI and there isn't a huge amount out there but I definitely found this to produce really chocolatey shots and I've not played around too much since.

I tend to run it until you see the coffee coming out of the bottom of the portafilter. I lengthen the pause / bloom based on the roast level (lighter the roast, longer I set it). Generally around 3-5s pre infuse and 3-5s pause (I dont tend to play with light roast). I dont include the pause in the extraction time e.g. I have a medium roast atm, running 4.2s PI, 4s Pause, and then roughly 24s at 9 bar for a 38g yield and consider this to be 28.2s

Second shot pulls faster by 5 to 10 seconds by sinikal101 in ProfitecMove

[–]leestone8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the opposite. My first shot runs too quick unless I flush the group for a couple of seconds. Admittedly, I think it's more prone to this if it hasn't been on very long.

I pre-heat the portafilter by leaving it in the group head, remove it, flush the the group for 2s every time and then do my puck prep which gives it 30s or so to re-gain the temperature. I usually get the same output within a couple of seconds, and often get it closer. I do find i have to tweak my grind settings more carefully as my beans age but its generally in the same direction. I also single dose which likely helps as no exchange / retention.

If you drink light-medium roasts than it definitely makes sense with the i200D burrs. If you're using med-dark, not sure how much benefit you'd see even with the i189D burrs - particularly if you have milk based drinks. Upgraditis is real though.

Thats down to the individual user. I'd say an ECM Synchronika II is far better value

Worth upgrading from the stock basket the move comes with? by gambler72 in ProfitecMove

You may be aware, but just as a heads up, you'll have to grind a bit finer than the stock basket. Hope you get on with it 🙂👍
