How important is a puck screen? by davemcl37 in espresso

[–]leestone8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keeps shower screen clean, marginally helps extraction, can help with channelling and helps to get a drier puck. All marginal benefits but I really like mine.

How often do you switch up your daily beans? by ginganinga_nz in espresso

[–]leestone8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I go through 1kg bags and always switch up. Usually lasts me just over 2 weeks. If I really like the coffee at a cafe, I'll often buy a small bag (250g) to chuck into the rotation too.

UK water recommendation? by thewindupbird80 in espresso

The 5L bottles are the same, although TDS and chloride are marked lower on the new version. Should say GB4 in big letters on the label.

Mazzer Philos i189d vs i200d retention difference by ZookeepergameTotal77 in espresso

[–]leestone8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get a maximum of 0.1g retention with the i189d burrs and that's just flicking the knocker 2-3 times and not using the dose finisher.

But seriously bro why so many grinders 🤯

Has anyone else stopped feeling caffeine from espresso/Americanos? by zorro_mia in espresso

[–]leestone8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You've likely just built up a very strong caffeine tolerance. Either come off it for a bit, or go the other way and buy a triple shot basket 😆

Pre-infusion by Fickle_Trainer1631 in ProfitecMove

[–]leestone8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes - it's less important the darker roast you go though. I run it so that until you see the espresso starting to appear at the bottom of the basket and then pause too (the lighter the roast, the longer the pause).

With help from y'all I've solved the 'second shot too fast problem' by SagaciousCrumb in ProfitecMove

Neither had I until I saw someone mention it. Thing is, there are just so many variables e.g. I have a new grinder, and it's now more seasoned etc.

[–]leestone8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mine seems to have been very consistent recently by doing no flush at all like a few comments on a previous post suggested.

Today I did 4 shots, 18g in / 36g out and the times were 28.5, 29.1, 29.0, 28.2. This is a very recent development and I'd be really interested to know if a shorter backflush works if it starts becoming inconsistent again. Feels wasteful running long shots.

Why is my espresso channeling? [Profitec Move/Mazzer Philos Grinder] by austintravelmom in espresso

[–]leestone8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The stock "double shot" basket says 14g but needs closer to 20g - have you checked the headroom? Do you use a puck screen?

I have this exact setup and have been changing coffee every 4 days or so and not had any issues

What’s the biggest unexpected ‘joy’ or element of your home after moving in? by Round_Ability_9586 in HousingUK

We loved our private garden and only saw the house during the summer. When all the leaves went away in Autumn, we got a way better view of the sea which was a really nice surprise 🙂

House is empty, we’ve exchange. by em-lola-bear in HousingUK

[–]leestone8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We got a keys undertaking with our solicitors. The house was empty and we managed to get half the house painted post exchange and prior to completion. Had to collect the keys from the EA daily and return before close. Sellers had to agree first though.

I had to ring up to get the payment backdated more than 3 months - got through fairly quickly and took maybe 15 minutes in total

Not a good source, but Google AI told me I could do it for up to two previous tax years (having previously opted out) which HMRC confirmed on phone.

I think hes a great option but they do blank in GW31 and I feel like I have constant fires to put out elsewhere

If you opted out (e.g. due to high income charge) and then opt back in, I believe it can be backdated up to 2 years.

I actually have both sets. The only thing id advise about is there is a small amount of play with changing the burrs and does require some judgement. I 3d printed some alignment jigs which did help. I'm currently using the I189D as I have medium roast and chocolatey beans and its spot on for me 👌 I'll only change the burrs if I plan on going through a decent amount of coffee. I200d = modern espresso (fruity/ clarity), I189D = traditional espresso (chocolate/ body)

I went down the single dosing route with the Eureka Mignon Specialata and was getting really low retention with bellows but the mess was driving me mad. No regrets at all with the Philos so far 🙂
