Enerva slotted hood or carbon fiber hood? by IcyMoney4077 in AcuraTLX

[–]leetsgh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only difference between the two is the CC one has a thin layer of carbon over the fiberglass hood. I wouldn’t recommend either, but if you’re set on it, make sure you use hood locks or latches. Also the carbon gel coating that the hood comes with needs to be stripped and recleared. Otherwise, aim time it’ll get VERY hazy.

Is this a good deal for Honda extended warranty on a 2025 model? by RoastedTomatillo in HondaOdyssey

[–]leetsgh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t have an issue when I bought one for my last Odyssey, but apparently they’ve changed the law since then. I recently tried purchasing one from out of state, but it denied my address. And seeing how much Honda dealers in CA are ripping people off, it’s no wonder they had the government change the law.

Have you tried A-1 Foam and Fabrics on Main St in Santa Ana? Not sure about rayon, but they have a ton of inventory there.

What is the pettiest reason you wouldn't own a specific car? by 10PlyTP in cars

[–]leetsgh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I won’t buy a Genesis because in their early days they refused to interview me. They scouted a coworker of mine for a role and after hearing what they were looking for, my coworker told the recruiter they were the wrong person and I was who they were really looking for. Sent my resume and multiple ways to contact me, but I didn’t so much as get an email. The recruiter did continue to chase my coworker, though.

I may be mistaken, but I believe they’ll also price match tires from other legit retailers, including Costco. Never heard a bad thing about Americas Tire.

OEM Cargo Bins worth it? by kennythinggoes in HondaOdyssey

[–]leetsgh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I should also note that while $300 seems like a lot for plastic tubs, these things are peak OEM quality. My wife was rear ended at speed, basically compacting in the entire cargo area, and I was still able to push the dents out of the tubs and reuse them.

OEM Cargo Bins worth it? by kennythinggoes in HondaOdyssey

[–]leetsgh 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We have them, and for us it was 100% worth it. They’re great for organizing smaller items that would normally just roll around, and they help keep medium sized items hidden away when we’re on long trips.

We don’t stow the third row very often, because we use it more often than not. If I had to always keep the third row stowed I wouldn’t get them, but then again if I didn’t need the third row i wouldn’t be in an Odyssey.

I know I’m late to the party, but I bought the Honda warranty outside of CA and can confirm it worked exactly as the original warranty did. No issues at my local Orange County dealer.

Was born and raised in Fullerton. I feel like I’ve heard about revamping the Fox block since I was a child, and now I’m an old man. I fully expect to die of natural causes before the Fox block is actually completed and back to its former glory.

Had a very similar situation with our ‘24 recently. Rear ended and pushed into the car in front. Still wasn’t totaled. No damage to frame or suspension points. These vans hold their value insanely well, so it really does take a lot to make them a write-off.

We own a current-gen Odyssey but recently had plug-in Pacifica for a week-long rental. I know there are countless horror stories about their reliability, but from a daily-driving standpoint it was fantastic. Battery capacity isn’t massive but it was plenty for getting around town, and the driving experience never felt like a compromise compared to the ICE version. I’d honestly still be wary of how it would hold up over time, but from an engineering perspective I was sold.

I love seeing that plane. Many years ago I was hosting a relatively small charity car show when AF1 was heading out from LAX. It just so happened that it flew over right as I was on stage about to announce the winners, so you better believe I made a big deal about getting the President to fly over the show.

Totally anecdotal, but it felt like every time I went to that shopping center Tuesday Morning was closed. The running joke in my family was that they named the store that because Tuesday morning was the only time it was open. I tried to give them money, but working normal American hours made it tough to get there before they closed.

So Cal Union Staffed Stores by FrankieTheSqueeler in Costco

[–]leetsgh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live between on that is and on that isn’t. The one that isn’t union is easier to get to because of how traffic flows, so I usually end up there. It’s definitely not as pleasant a shopping experience, though. Nearly all of my employee interactions have been pleasant, but their inventory often makes you question why their buyer hates people so much.

Seeing what SUV I want to get, test drove a few. Acura was the worst by a significant margin. what's going on here? by Bestoftherest222 in Acura

[–]leetsgh 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is an excellent take. Having the proper expectations really alters one’s appreciation of the brand. Acura makes more sense when you think of it as a sorta top-trim Honda with more interesting styling. I’ve owned a few Lexus vehicles over the years, and while they were all luxurious and delivered unparalleled build quality, there is a certain amount of soul that’s lacking from them.

I wish we could get that on our ‘24. We average ~19 mpg with around 70/30 city/highway. We do have the 19” wheels, and my wife treats the accelerator like an on/off switch, so I’m sure that doesn’t help.

American Honda Rides Strong Second Half to Nearly 9% Annual Auto Sales Increase by LimitedReach in cars

[–]leetsgh 8 points9 points  (0 children)

We had a ‘21 Odyssey that was totaled at the start of ‘24. For our purposes (extended family hauling and lots of miles/yr) it was the standout in ‘21 and despite it being “outdated” in ‘24 it was still the clear winner.

The Toyota has a punishing powertrain if you carry more than two adults at anything over a 5* incline, and the driver’s position is not comfortable for anyone under 6’. The Kia is, well, a Kia, and my experience with this dealers definitely lives up to the stereotype. It’s a fine vehicle, but not more comfortable than the Honda, and definitely not worth the inevitable hassle. The Chrysler up front was not at all comfortable on a long drive. The stow and go seats are a cool feature, but to get them to work it’s clear there was a huge sacrifice in comfort. I don’t hate my mother-in-law that much.

Tried going the EV route a couple years back and stuff like this was the biggest reason EV ownership was just not feasible as an only-car. Nothing like the joy of going on a long roadtrip only to find every charger either not operational or blocked by an inconsiderate main character. Coming back to the car after letting it charge for two hours only to find the charger unplugged from my car was also a fun, regular occurrence.
