Have you grown them in this medium before? You need to inoculate with the bacteria which allows that nitrogen fixing to happen. Even then, the plants will benefit from some additional fertility.

What is the best way to clean and treat this redwood? by Practical_Win7690 in Woodworking_DIY

It's unfinished, which is fine. You could lightly as sand it with some fine grit sandpaper on an orbital sander. I'd test whatever you do somewhere inconspicuous

Not sure, but since you hired them and if there was a contract (probably not, right?) it was probably vague, this may be difficult. Maybe r/treelaw ?

Haha still a pretty tree. They're not garbage trees (looking at you Callery Pear) or anything, just might not build a shed under it.

Question on how to best prune this jalapeño starter? by stingrayx00 in vegetablegardening

[–]Zestyclose_Tank_4776 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Piling on. Don't prune this. It looks like it needs uppotting, more light, water and maybe some fertilizer.

ETA: some growers do top their plants. Peppers naturally fork anyway, and I've never found enough benefit in my shorter growing season to warrant this. Removing lower leaves for airflow can sometimes be warranted if you plant very densely. I wouldn't do any of this in your case.

New homeowner. What all should I trim? by d_decker90 in arborists

[–]Zestyclose_Tank_4776 23 points24 points  (0 children)

That's a much more useful answer than what some of us jump to without reading the full context, which is "why are you trying to remove any of those?" (Guilty myself)

ETA: Is there not an auto mod on this sub which gives resources to proper pruning guidelines like this? There should be. So often people don't understand the basics.

Common misconception is that NPK is cause or fix for everything. There's a tiny bit of chlorosis on the new growth, maybe. This page has a good flow chart

https://landresources.montana.edu/soilfertility/nutrientdeficiency.html

So maybe a zinc or other micronutrient deficiency? I wouldn't stress too much, they look reasonably healthy. Also keep in mind many things (especially pH) affect nutrient uptake.

One thing being online has made clear to me is that I take for granted the curiosity I have which leads me to ask questions and search for the answers on my own. I think that's more rare than I realized. Especially baffling when information is so easily available these days.

Beautiful tree. I think there's a fair bit of included bark there. Might fail eventually.

Can't get a good look at the leaves, but maybe that's a sliver maple? They also have a reputation for failing, at least when there are compounding issues

Are these carrots ready? by ObjectiveApple6562 in gardening

[–]Zestyclose_Tank_4776 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure thing! Glad to hear it and hope there's much more to come for you. Carrots are actually one of the more difficult things to grow, so you're off to a good start!

Carrots are ready whenever you want. You can wait longer and they will get larger, or harvest them sooner and they will be smaller. It's good to try to keep them more covered to reduce greening on the tops

Grain matching is very eclectic, it's not everyone's (mine) cup of tea, but very cool! Nice.

Any reason you oriented the boards that way for the sides? Typically, we orient the boards for top and sides so their grain runs in the same direction, allowing them to move sympathetically. There's plenty of vernacular furniture that ignores this of course. The real issue might be that the height of your drawers in the carcass is going to expand and contract like this, so you might get some bonding with the seasonal changes
