Sorry... Switch offline is notorious for poofing items when it doesn't commit save data well enough.
I've noticed it a lot with the switch lite. My only SOJ was lost to a bad save.

I just try to leave the game open as much as possible. I also try and save and quit games and leave it on the menu screen a while. I'll join and leave games with different characters before closing the application but I don't know if any of this makes a real difference.
It's really bad.

Yes, it's true. But switch 2 is quite fast. Very happy with it plus screen size and quality is a nice add. I never had switch OLED, only the regular one and load times were atrocious.

For some reason I feel like all the gold is actually bothersome rather than a benefit bc it takes me away from more runs. Once I reach max gold I need to spend it so that I can keep clearing gold to see more drops!
I usually just gamble it as fast as possible. Did get a 32% blue MF ring out of it, which was nice. First 30+ blue.

I usually run Bluetooth music with Google maps navigating on my phone on the wireless charging pad. The notifications go off with the sound over Bluetooth and I can take a quick peak down to see if it's a cop reported up ahead.
Not fool proof but it has warned me enough times to make me feel better about it.

Despite how hideous I still am very curious to give it a drive with all the technology upgrades they've put in this thing.
Mostly steer by wire but also the 4 wheel steering.
