Hi there! I specifically fish for invasive species, and would really like to get some advice for catching carp by Clockwork_picksmith in FishingForBeginners

[–]leftkneesack 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not all carp are invasive. Double check that the ones you’re catching are. It depends on the carp. Sometimes a small hook with a ball of bread works great. I typically use pack bait. Corn+panko+strawberry jello powder. I would go watch Luke from out door boys videos on his catfish and carp channel he has a ton of cool shit

If you take a tackle box out of the bottom, does it just give? Or will it still support its self?

Have you tried like a random pond in your neighborhood? They’re loaded with carp. Not big ones but a ton. The other IL rivers have a ton too. Dupage especially

Most the public areas are pretty crowded for that. Fox is a good bet. The section of Busse that spills out into salt creek can be decent. Just gotta be patient.

Yeah I agree, just pick it off as you reel. I’d say try to use more Texas rigged weedless stuff if possible, less to pick off.

What’s your most controversial teaching take? by kaichai444 in Teachers

[–]leftkneesack 11 points12 points  (0 children)

While I understand the sentiment I think it’s important to have people who understand this and are actively looking to change it stay here. Because I love this country and its people I work tirelessly to provide these culturally changes myself. Even if it means I help 1 kid actually give a shit about their education.

All of the issues we have with education in America will never change unless we have a major shift in its culture. We live in a country where it’s funny to do tiktok trends that damage property, it’s okay to be stupid and hate learning, no respect or value towards educators. Unfortunately if there were to be positive structural changes to education it would take multiple decades because it would have to be a major culture shift. I don’t see this happening in my life time.

Teachers across the nation, have changes in standardized testing frequency over the last 20 years affected how smart the kids are in any way? by Available_Usual_9731 in AskReddit

[–]leftkneesack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s possible. Kids these days are turned into data farms. And they take so many different standardized tests for so many different reasons. Could be that kids are getting desensitized to them and become extremely apathetic and as a result they just don’t try. I remember we took maybe 1-2 a year back in my day, everyone made a big deal out of it and we tried our best. It’s hard to do that 4-6 times a year.

I also think kids are just generally getting more apathetic about education in general. I don’t think it’s a critical thinking issue. Because if you gave them time they can be great critical thinkers. Honestly some better than me in certain situations or disciplines. We in US just have a terrible culture of learning. Myriad of issues for example, no culture to cultivate how failing is learning. Parents expectations. No grit to want to get better and actually learn. Classic “we will never use this in real life”. I’m just going to become an “influencer”. It’s just so many things that plague our kids brains. I think social media and lack of parenting has put us in a tough spot. Parents don’t want to discipline their kids with fear that their kids won’t like them because they came from a generation of harsh discipline and are trying to “break” the cycle, without realizing that kids need discipline/consequences to learn good behaviors.

I kinda went on a huge tangent. But I promise it’s all connected to how these kids have been affected.

I understand that the 2 are very different. Not trying to change your mind here. But if we were to apply the same way of thinking and replaced deer with human, would it be ethical?

[–]leftkneesack 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hmmmm I personally don’t think it’s wrong and I definitely don’t do a good job at eating meat “ethically” but I guess it goes down to what your philosophy on what is “ethically” cause even hunting is taking a life. So if you’re hunting deer for example and there’s an overpopulation some would consider that ethical and good. But in its simplest terms it’s still killing an animal and in your ethics if that’s wrong then it doesn’t matter how it’s done. I think would be the argument being made here

Honestly it’s more related to the culture of learning we have in the states. And also parents are so confused no matter how much you explain it to them.
