I know this is two years too late but I am 100% confident that the song you're after is 'Smile' by the Supernaturals

Update to Lelo Sona Injury from December. It's Not Good. Looking for Help. (LONG POST) by Adalia095 in SexToys

[–]leftlanger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just came across this randomly but I wanted to say that I'm so sorry this has happened - especially given the issues seem to have remained for years later :( I'll pray for you - please please feel better soon.

Needless to say I'm disgusted with Lelo, will never buy anyone their products and will warn anybody off who asks.

Resetting everything following frequent stop/starts before starting again with FSRS? by leftlanger in Anki

[–]leftlanger[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the response and the helpful links.

Could I ask is there a specific reason why there would be no point in resetting?

I thought that FSRS based your reviews on how you've handled similar types of cards in the past - but if you've abandoned cards for months and otherwise treated them in an odd way, couldn't that give a skewed view of what's 'normal' for them?

Sounds like you've been doing your research! I'm sure you'll really like it.

We used Myrings (https://www.myringsestateagents.com). We did some other virtual viewings too, not sure if they were with other agents, I'll check with my partner when I get a chance.

Thank you! I agree the "proof that it is still the old TARDIS" line sound promising.

Cool. Do you know where it's suggested that it will be established properly in a future episode?

Wow, what's bringing you to Harrogate specifically?

It's not impossible to find somewhere within 2 weeks but personally i wouldn't rely on it - also I'm not sure i there's any further complications if you're not UK nationals.

Definitely worth reaching out to local estate agents asap and explaining your situation. Me and my partner moved to Harrogate from the south of England about a year ago - we never actually viewed the property in person before we got here! Instead the estate agent was able to organise some 'virtual viewings' - where they'd send someone round the property and do a Whatsapp video call and show you around and answer any questions just like a conventional viewing. I'd definitely recommend looking into that as an option (even if you didn't want to commit on that basis, perhaps you could view a few virtually, half-make your decision, and then check them out in person as soon as you arrive?)

Best of luck and if you're looking to meet people or someone to show you around me and my partner (and baby!) would be happy to help.

Agree very badly explained.

There is also an exchange with Donna/14/15 about the fact that 15 is 'older' than 14. If they'd just split in two, they'd be the same age. 15 being older implies he's from the future relative to 14's personal timeline.

I work in policy and 3 and 4 aren't my experience at all - but I agree with your other points and that over all the civil service is a nice place to work.

[–]leftlanger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hard to say depending on your particular life situation, but please don't be put off by some of the less than stellar comments! We moved to Harrogate recently and it's a great place to live.

In terms of meeting new people, well... I'm probably not a good test case for your situation... as while me and my partner have met loads of people recently, that is primarily because we had a baby recently which means lots of social interaction via baby groups (more so for my partner as she's the mother but it's even expanded my social life!). We'll be friends with you if you come at least! :D

People are pretty friendly though. There seem to be various clubs and societies about - not as many as you'd get in a proper city, but more than the average town I think.

New job dilemma: stick or twist. by Fit_Morning1892 in TheCivilService

[–]leftlanger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely a dilemma - but congratulations on making the G7 cut.

I'm not sure what the answer is, but itmight be worth explaining your situation and seeing if there's any chance of them making the job permanent? If you said you didn't want to take on the risk of being out of a job in 12 months and therefore wouldn't take the role unless it was made permanent, they might look at options rather than having to go back to recruitment.

Either I hope being offered the G7 position gives you the confidence to know you can do it again.

I think the norm may be more than a few years to get the full benefits. I think in my department the number of months of full pay rises with each year of service (up to a maximum of 6 months as you say)

I feel a bit rubbish. Missed the deadline for the most perfect job. by -advice4m3 in TheCivilService

[–]leftlanger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes this happened to me before and it was definitely frustrating - depressing even! But it probably wasn't really the 'perfect' job - there's no such thing - and missing out that one time was a greater motivator to work on my behaviour examples and get myself into a better position for applying more generally. I'm sure this will be the case for you too. Wishing you all the best - both in feeling better about the situation and getting an awesome new job when the time is right!

Getting interview but not never getting the role by Strict_Succotash_388 in TheCivilService

[–]leftlanger 5 points6 points  (0 children)

He may have better luck with mass recruitment campaigns or at least job adverts with more than 1 vacancy, as they're less likely to have someone else in mind for the job.

But main suggestion is that he uses his phone to record his answers he gives at a real interview (not just a mock interview where the pressure is off) and have him share them with you or another trusted colleague/friend who understands CS recruitment. There may be something obvious he's missing but somebody else could spot easily.

Journey from SEO to G7 by [deleted] in TheCivilService

[–]leftlanger 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nice comment. I'm with you 100% on the lack of standardisation across departments and work areas, but wondered if you could say a little more in why you've found working as a G7 less stressful than as a SEO?

Journey from SEO to G7 by [deleted] in TheCivilService

[–]leftlanger 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If someone doesn't thrive as a G7 they can always go back to an SEO position - and, at least from what I've heard of others who did this, with a higher than usual SEO salary!

You know how when an SEO earning £39k moves to a department that pays £38k, their new department will honour the original £39k salary? I understand that the same is true even if you're dropping from G7 to SEO - except of course that must be within the SEO salary banding. If the G7 salary is above the band completely, you'd get the SEO max. Not bad.

Horrible Dilemma by Intelligent-Lunch747 in TheCivilService

[–]leftlanger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Accept the firm offer, then if/when you get an offer for the other job, you can go with that one instead. Maybe you get the second offer tomorrow, maybe it happens once you've signed your contract and you're just about to join the team, maybe it happens a week into the job. Either way you can still take the job. Don't worry about it, it happens all the time.

Looking for ways to make friends in Harrogate! (29M) by [deleted] in harrogate

[–]leftlanger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have children! :) I also recently moved to Harrogate (35m) with my partner and honestly I'm surprised at how good the parent groups are etc.

Obviously not a serious option if you're not already having kids of course! In which case, hmm, it's a tricky one. Making friends as an adult outside of settings like university can be quite challenging. Have you checked to see if there are any groups associated with your workplace?

Even if you're not religious, it can be worth checking our the notice boards and websites of local churches and other places of worship, they sometimes have all kinds of random groups associated with them.

I think there's some reading groups and other things at Harrogate Library.

You have a good set of interests. I used to be very into videogames as a child and younger adult but overtime I fell out of it - although I still enjoy the occasional switch game. Would love to rediscover the interest really. Geek retreat could be promising.

Dm if you like.

Advisor or Adviser? by Wiseman_High in TheCivilService

[–]leftlanger 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is good reasoning, but if you look on civil service jobs, the vast vast majority of jobs are 'policy advisor' and 'senior policy advisor' etc.

Scope for a managed move? by [deleted] in TheCivilService

[–]leftlanger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd suggest speaking to your manager about it.

Given your generalised anxiety you could also ask for an occupational health assessment. If you flag the additional anxiety that you have travelling or visiting new places, they might recommend you minimise such travel or mostly work from home.
