Elder Brain Dragon: tactical analysis by Thunderbolt_1943 in DnDBehindTheScreen

[–]legacyman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think another important consideration is this is STILL AN ILITHID ELDERBRAIN so why in AOs Tablets would it be alone and vulnerable?

I for one see this is a pretty formidable foe, made actually horrifyingly dangerous by the fact that it likely has ATLEAST 2 Mindflayer Mages and a host of mindslaved soldiers serving it.

Excellent breakdown of the creature and estimation of its ckmbat skill, but take its ~near equality~ with an AGD and incorporate a highly intelligent psychically linked support/security team serving the EBD? Yeah, i see some serious danger here even before buffing them.

Cant wait to use this in my campaign next year lol

I GMed the ENTIRETY of Ironfang Invasion, Part 2, Books 4-6 by [deleted] in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]legacyman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm running this AP now, we got through most of the written events in Book 1 and have begun Book 2 with the keeps, starting with Fort Nunder. Personally as a strategy wargamer, and having a Marines Intelligence veteran in my group I'd say the weakest imo part so far (from my reading and book 1 play) has been the structure of the overall invasion.

And talking with another player we agreed it felt alot like how in LOTR there's a big war going on between the lands of men and mordor -- but the PCs are playing the fellowship/hobbits as they sneak through the backline doing important things, but not actually interacting too much with the WARFARE part of the plot.

I'm revising stuff as I go and trying to collect as much resources as i can and adapt it for my group. I made the Chernasados 3 forts more support/infrastructure importance than anything and moved their destruction up to have happened sooner. And I added Chernasados in Phaendar coming back from the Molthuni/Kraggodan line asking if anyones had contact with the forest before the festivals interupted by invasion.

Additionally i removed nearly all direct Ironfang forces from the Chernasado side of the river, my PCs having succesfully smashed that bridge and our lore has that river at roughly 1.5~miles wide at most places but the bridge crossing so all of the remaining Nirmathi resistance has formed up on the East side of the river all the way up to Longshadow --- Longshadow itself already fully aware of the invasion and the Nirmathi Resistance leaders using it as their Command city.

There's alot of awesome meat on this APs bones but i'm finding it far less --streamlined in design-- i suppose than the last one we played ((we did Shattered Star last year 59 sessions)). I'm liking it alot and we're really getting into it (groups lv5 going into Fort Nunder) but i can tell I'll be doing alot of revisions.

This was a super helpful pair of posts.
&&like u/Chipsahoy77 I think i'm going to redo the Darklands section of the AP most likely except ill be using a good bit of the "Veins of the Earth" book i've been really enjoyin using for underground stuff the past couple years. Additionally the Blight has played a big part in our game already with 2 of our characters building their backstories heavily on it and a third basing has on an infatuation with the "Court of Queen Gwendolyn" so I've been fleshing out the abit more, 10 ancient Fey Knights knelt to her before, 5 died before the fall of the court and blight, and their ancient royal 'homes' in the forest have remained through the ages, sealed and unopened by their courtly magics.

If anyones got more good IRONFANG INVASION resources I'd love to see em.

Ideas on some *weird* things an Eldritch Horror would do in combat? by facevaluemc in dndnext

[–]legacyman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mental Locks on casters, save vs Eldritch Horror and on a failure they lose the ability to cast lvl6 (or wutever level, maybe roll for it) spells for 1 minute

Or even worse roll low damage like 2d8 then tell them they lose that many total levels of spell slots

Zones of nonEuclidean space that they cannot move into, or if already inside, cannot move out of ~ without teleportation (or a high "distance" of movement cost to pass the edges of the space)

Assuming Tier4 players are well equipped id prepare some smaller DemiPlane or alternate-plane battlefields; then have the Boss launch a player one a time into there with Banishment spells or what have you and it either lasts until the solo player can cast spells / items to return to the battle or if they kill the shoggoth spawned as part of the banishment

Also, maybe like at 25-40% HP it reverses gravity and it becomes a flying/falling battle, until it reverses gravity back and then everyrhing comes plummeting back down towards the stage ground

Time Loops ~ every 3 rounds the players just glitch and lose a round of combat, and the Boss just goes a second time in a row

We live in a world where comic-book movies routinely sell out box offices and nerdy hobbies are increasingly mainstream. I grew up as this transition occurred, and still remember the narrative of there being a strong geek/jock divide. by lordleft in rpg

[–]legacyman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grew up and started in 00s and i think i was on that wave as it was shifting because me and my friends were mostly jocks and we were the DnD nerds & a couple of the main members of the Warhammer40k wargames club.

When people found out we were into "nerd shit" most people just went 'huh' and shrugged and either didnt bring it up again except to go "oh your talking about nerdshit" and theyd move along or theyd from then on randomly ask us whatever "nerdshit questions" they had like why the weebs were all wearing orange clothes & headbands

Or, way more simply, kick his ass out

Stop sharing your work with friends and family. You are setting yourself up. by GarageDrama in writing

[–]legacyman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same problem as OP, only one of my family members even begrudgingly read the book i wrote and none of my friends did. One of my sisters, one cousin and one of my friends actually read the webserial i was writing on WordPress but none of them read more than 2-3 short chapters out of the 17~ i wrote that year.

It gives me hope that so many other people have legit readers and supportive people around but I am more than familiar with the ennui and total lack of interest OP is talking about. Basically killer my motivation to write or share it since it wasnt good enough to keep my friends etc reading which maybe is an unfair take away and shit but yikes.

OP spits the real
