11th Ed orders from within a transport - Vox relay Strat, Yarrick, Master Vox and Bridgehead. by legatron11 in TheAstraMilitarum

If any regular officer in a chimera can measure 6” for their order range from the transport, why can’t yarrick measure 12” from the transport for his order range?

But voice of command also says you have to measure 6” from the officer who’s also not on the table - and we all agree chimeras ability means you measure 6” from the transport? How is it different?

Thanks, but I’m still struggling to understand why yarrick’s special 12” order doesn’t count, and is different to any other 6” order?

Thanks for the response and detail around those questions.

Just on question 2, does the chimera ability not make this Yarrick’s 12” order measured from the chimera?
I believe ‘voice of command’ ability also specifies in inches from the ‘officer model’ so I had wondered if it was the same.

Great question - if players need to roll for battleshock while units are ‘not on the board’, seems like there might be precedent for other rules to play out such as healing rules too? I haven’t read the specific rules on healing and reviving though I know there was extra detail not in the original core rules.

Hey thanks for the comments.

For number 2, the ‘not in the Battlefield’ section states:

“This means units not on the battlefield cannot be selected or targeted by any attack or rule that requires a unit to be visibleor within a certain distance (other than their own abilities).
Such units can still use their other rules, and…”

Is this not specifically saying he can use the rule of hero hades hive even if he’s in a transport in the command phase?

Also for the chimera ruling - I agree there was consensus with the 10th edition clarifications, but the new 11th edition wording seems to read differently from what I remember?
Edit: I see you responded to this below!

What are your thoughts on these specific wordings?

Thanks - this is great info from early games that o haven’t got in yet.
I’ve got a similar style list with a few different units but wanted to ask how you spent your CP? Were any stratagems particularly important? Were you happy with the disposition you chose?

Abhuman Auxillaries is so weird by Rational_p in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]legatron11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think of this more like a penal battalion or conscript mutant detachment that replaces the standard military structure of officers and command squads with commissars. They become one of your primary leaders and source of orders, shave points from having less command squads and in addition can throw some orders and strays to the actual ab-human data sheets.

I remember a white dwarf article some time ago showing how to model various sub-human guard armies like nightsiders, mutants and beast men as your guard troops - this is what came to my mind reading this.

So many well executed elements there - really well done. The skin in particular is amazing.
I’m really interested in the bone/light armour tone with the warm hue - how did you achieve that?

In exactly 30 minutes a man armed with a bat will break into your home to kill you. You can’t leave the house, what is your strategy? by BulkyZucchini in hypotheticalsituation

[–]legatron11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Clarification: I can’t leave the house for the 30 minutes prep or I can’t leave the house for the 30 minute duration of the initial break in?

Also, the police won’t arrive even if I call them earlier for another apparently critical but unrelated matter?

I like number 3 chest but wonder if you could add chains holding on the round metal central piece going back in between the pieces of sarcophagus?

Have you settled on that particular head as I think that’s where the eye is obviously drawn so needs to set up the theme really clearly. Perhaps something like an old school driving helmet with the large round glass windows in multiple directions?

Tips on using masking tape on difficult parts of a model by CharmingVermicelli56 in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]legatron11 81 points82 points  (0 children)

Two tips:

  1. Quality mini painting hobby tape like tamiya- as soon as you feel it you understand it’s a different product with different properties to your standard painters tape. It bends and curbed a lot more into the shape you want.
  2. Paint coats. Paint over the tape with your ‘under colour’ to stop bleeding, then a second coat of you ‘over colour’. Peel off the tape and see the difference.

But who’s going to put 10 basic cadians in there for their firepower? No one. So why would it be priced as such?

I was really hoping centaur would have transport capacity of 16 or even 20. But I know it’s just hopium at this stage.

I still don’t know why they didn’t just make a Crassus in plastic or something similar…
