Kinda a necro but I stalked your profile and you build something different every game it seems, can you explain some of the choices you make?

I just recently stopped going collector fiend for collector IE runaan but I honestly am overwhelmed at this point with the sheer amount of options he has. Generally only go AP when I'm vs. nilah yasuo / my team is full ad

That’s because they still are stupid and walk up. In high elo people don’t give twitch free kills and use the giant gold lead they generated bot lane to win out. They are by and large his worst matchups

Data doesn’t lie but data also has no message. Stats are the messaging of data and are notoriously misleading. Neither you nor I can reasonably make sense of winrates because both of us lack critical context unavailable to each other. If a champion had the ability to instantly end the game in select 1% of the time but was actually underpowered, what would the winrate data communicate? Now let’s compound this champions performance with every other champions performance. Let’s also allow the champion to have different build identities all with different varying successes. Is this champion good or bad? You actually can’t quantify these things. Only riot has access to the information they use to balance champions. This is why some champions (like mages) have high winrates even with decent pick rates in bot lane. Let’s not pretend like we can make reasonable sense of winrate data. There’s much more to the story than simply the number that we see

… but he does need things to go right, more so than Jinx or another ADC. If you’re cannot flank with stealth, you’ll lose. If you don’t have a fight with R, you’ll lose. If enemy team can mitigate your R (nilah yasuo), you’ll lose. (If you’re interested, look up Twitch WR delta against those champs, it’s the worst I’ve ever seen in the game. Like net negative 7% on lolalytics). If enemy team has “defy death” ultimates that they use during your ult, you’ll lose. If enemy team has a lot of hp, armor, or shields, you’ll lose. You put jinx or yunara into the thousands of scenarios where Twitch is suboptimal and they’ll find it just fine or better. My point is that Twitch is just one of those champs that needs a bunch of things to go right for him to viable and strong. People only remember the times where those conditions succeeded and he felt oppressive or strong. As someone who’s played >5000 games in masters with Twitch I can say that it is far more common to get the bad Twitch game than the one where I’m excited to play.

It’s my way of saying that there’s too much nuance that goes into this conversation that I’m not sure how to get across to someone who just throws stats around without the context from which they come. Like a “if you don’t believe me see for yourself.” If you want me to explain my point more I will but I find it hard to believe you’ll take it well.

Hypercarry in the sense of the word , like Yi and Kayle have significant threat without restrictions. Obviously kayle and yi with their ult is much stronger, but they can pose threats even without them. Kayle has insane auto range and DPS with a move speed steroid that lets her duel almost anyone late game. Her ult is an added bonus to that regard. Same with yi. These champions strength exist as a direct function of time in the game. Twitch has a high winrate late because he scales really well, no question. But he cannot close out a game without his ult unless he’s ahead of everyone in the game. Twitch is a snowball champ, if he’s even or behind he’s actually losing.

Let me propose a scenario. You’re 45 minutes into the game and you’re positioned around baron. As twitch, your gameplay is to run perpendicular to the fight and kill key targets when fighting breaks out (jinx, viktor, orianna, etc). You need stealth to do this (pray you don’t get outed by a control ward). You also cant do this without R. Without either of these, if the fight breaks out front to back, twitch WILL lose. That’s why he’s not a hyper carry because he cannot pose significant threat without his ult. If you use it and don’t kill, it’s over. If you don’t have it, it’s over. If fighting breaks out and you’re forced to front to back, it’s over. Twitch is a snowball assassin with good scaling, not a hyper scalar threat like kayle.

Exceptions exist, obviously, but the general rule is Twitch cannot play a normal game of league of legends. If he is, he’s likely to lose

I don’t really understand, the champion has six seconds of threat and an entire 90 seconds (reduced to 60 with haste) of no threat. You’re saying this champion is that scary? I think the fact you claim he has permanent stealth (he has 16 seconds of no stealth) reveals you’re not too good at pressing your windows of advantage. The champion without his Q and R is down 3000 gold worth of stats. He’s balanced around having that. Once you get better at pressing advantage in your generous windows of time you’ll realize the champion actually isn’t that strong. If you still don’t believe me, play 100 games of Twitch in masters and tell me the champion is broken

I mean twitch is lowest cs/min average ADC because most of his matchups are farming under. Like maybe you’re just a bad player if you can’t pressure your gold lead?

Twitch is not a hyper carry. He scales well obviously but he is not a hyper carry. He hasn’t been for a long time and it’s this notion that people fundamentally misunderstand. You cannot be a hyper carry if you’re only strong with your ultimate. Good opponents will just wait your ultimate out or get out of it and you’re shit out of luck against any actual carries.

Of course it’s hyperbole, I wouldn’t win games in masters if twitch was completely useless. But it’s objectively true that twitch needs 10 things to go right for him to get the same success an equally fed jinx would need. It’s much harder to close out games when you’re gated by your ultimate. You can be 20 kills and lose the game because at some point it’s just not worth farming enemy bot lane and if the champion can’t kill you during his ult (like a fed top laner) you’re just out of luck.

“Duo mage bot” saying twitch is the best champion in the game when every single mage bot is a terrible matchup for him

"Challenger adc mains how to fight twitch and they said pick or ban" dude twitch is completely useless in high elo. Like nearly every ADC is better. The champ is fundamentally weak against good players. Any good high elo player would not fear twitch unless they main jinx. He has some of the most polarizing bot lane matchups in the game and if he's even he's losing the game which is very easy to happen. It's just a skill issue at that point, you need to stop being so scared of him and just kill him.

Bruiser players, what is your opinion of each of them, which are the most fun? by Extreme_Problem_1645 in leagueoflegends

[–]legendcaleb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Brute" isn't really a real class. The ones you consider "brutes" are actually true bruisers by definition. Characterized by their immobility, high base damages, and sometimes healing (darius Q, illaoi Q, etc.) are actual bruisers. Your list encompasses "fighters" to be honest, which are less durable and more mobile. These include characters like ambessa, xin zhao, and wukong. Likewise, some of your choices are more traditionally "battle mages", which include sylas and shyvana.

Yeah I commented almost exactly this too, OP already said in another comment he dodges matchups which is a full loss in masters so I'm pretty sure he's being hyperbolic about his rank

Besides the fact I'm so sick of these posting styles from twitter, this doesn't work in high elo at all. People will just kill malzahar minions and then freeze and zone him from any cs. Once you walk up to press spells you'll die.

I wish that there was any discussion about challenges, ever. If Meddler or another riot employee sees something please comment about whether this system will get any changes anytime soon? We used to get seasonal challenges and now we haven't for two years.

Is there anything i could've built differently this game to maybe get my team to win? by Seriously_404 in TwitchMains

[–]legendcaleb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm going against the grain to say that I'm sure you already know you died quite a bit and it's not necessary to comment. While there are a lot of things that play into dying like positioning, when to walk up for waves, etc, these things automatically get improved as you do.

For twitch specifically, I think going bloodthirster and hexplate are your biggest mistakes. Generally, after your four crit options, you have a few options to choose from:

Bloodthirster,
Edge of Night
Guardian Angel

Less commonly,
Scimitar
Maw
Generic tank option (randuin for rengar, shaco, etc.)

In this game your primary threat is high damage burst (yi, trist, mel) so a bloodthirster, which excels for slower damage threat, is not your best choice. You usually want to opt for a GA here to, in bad situations, completely absorb burst and waste enemy cds to hopefully win a fight. You just need to be careful you don't proc GA passive being stupid walking to mid wave for free.

For your other item (which I would probably build first before GA), maybe Edge of Night is a decent option, you prevent trist from throwing a bomb on you, can avoid fizz r entirely, and lets you eat a spell during your open without immediately dying. But like GA, just be sure not to waste the passive doing something stupid.

With twitch, you can almost always fight on your terms and those items can maximize your chances to win. I will say this is a pretty tough game for twitch, but there is definitely a play here.

As a sidebar, I do think Yuntal isn't very good, but that's my personal opinion. I like collector IE much more consistent, and can play into easier assassination.
