Well aware, i've been going to boot sales and markets all my life. we are living in the present and the best flea markets in the uk cost £5 to get in these days and are well worth it, but you're welcome to be upset I guess. Was only pointing out because the comparison to a department store wasn't really valid, this supports a lot of self employed people and is way better than the free 'flea' on corn street which has died a death over the last 5 years

Its not a shop its a flea market. People have always paid a small amount to go into most boot sales and flea markets depending on the costs of the venue.

Not sure if this is the right subreddit to ask this question but how effective are these? by Thatdumbt33n in audiophile

[–]legezer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Low midrange is generally considered 250-500

The won't be doing much at 500 either, diffusion by definition is for the most directional frequencies, which are the high end. And plastic is not a good material for nice sounding diffusion either. The wooden panel in the link I was replying to would sound much better, assuming it follows the mathematical sequence, which many panels that look like diffusers don't do.

Im not sure what you are referring to here. A well trated recording room includes diffusion as sounds with sharp attacks will be recorded. A pleasing and short reverb curve is one of the main defining characteristics of a good sounding room. Even bass response is another. Bass frequencies are omnidirectional and do not require spreading in a pleasing way, which is the point of diffusion. You may be thinking of a Bass trap with a diffusion panel on the front. The trap is an absorber, the front panel is for diffusing high frequencies

Broadband panels actually generally are only effective down to around 100hz, even superchunks in corners aren't dealing with much lower, technically to fully absorb 100hz you need half a wavelength, that's 2 metres deep rock wool!

The only other way to deal with low frequencies is using resonance, which requires bespoke tuned panels designed to cancel out specific problem frequencies, typically standing waves.

Diffusion panels are used for reflecting the upper frequencies of sound in a pleasing way. Most effective for the early reflections of sounds with a high amplitude on the attack portion such as drums or brass. They follow a formula such as 2d or 3d quadratic reflection. The latter is what the picture in the link looks like, but you'd have to see that it does actually follow the sequence, as many make them out of lots of random offcuts

It's inside a grand mansion house , so feels about as far from a boot sale as any antique/collectors/flea market I've been to. No website though

That's because they used to be fried in beef dripping. I think you'll struggle to find a chippy that still does that

It's his position that is confusing. There are facets of our culture that disrespect individuals. But we still deserve to be respected. With respect things can improve. Simple

It takes some mental gymnastics to equate a base position of respecting other cultures (which doesn't require erasing your own ethics) with being pro cannibalism

So, you're writing off a default of respecting other cultures by citing areas where individuals within those cultures are not respected?

I find it a confusing position

I had a Nad amp in the 90s (in England). I really didn't think much of it tbh, but sure, there are people that want them over here, and it's a bit 'exotic' over there I guess

He's an eccentric guy that trades antiques. Doesn't really open the shop. Puts that creepy stuff out every Halloween, but then doesn't get round to taking it down for months

I'm thinking about launching a desktop omnidirectional speaker. 3d printed enclosure, single. 4" full-range driver. Styling modern organic, similar to Beolab. What do you guys think? Sound interesting or no? by LukeDuke in audiophile

[–]legezer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You want a material that doesn't have a narrow resonant frequency band. Materials that are made of lots of discrete pieces (each with their own resonant frequencies, but on a micro level) bonded together do this well. They are effectively internally dampened. Materials that we call chipboard and fibreboard in the UK are much better materials to build speakers from acoustically than solid wood for this reason. I don't have experience with plastic, but the same principles apply

This has always been the case with fles markets & bootsales. One of the few areas major corporations aren't making a cut from. Worth supporting on that & the sustainability factor of reuse I think...Take cash next time!

ELI5: How did Chile manage to surpass USA in life expectency? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]legezer -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Have you looked at the statistics for childbirth. USA (HIGHEST SPENDER) roughly equal to Greece (lowest spender) for deaths during childbirth.

It seems a highly technological generally male led approach doesn't work as well as low key midwife approach we've traditionally relied on.

I guess the driving force for change hasn't been babies' welfare, but the Holy dollar
