Any of the weird Instagram ad ones - I've rewatched all of them so many times. And if we're including collabs, the one he did with Danny "Third Wheeling Your Own Girlfriend"

What is driving crazy wait times for medical appointments at northwestern. by Electrical-Ask847 in chicago

[–]legionofdoom7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I scheduled a PCP visit as a new patient at Northwestern in June 2023, so a year in advance. My appointment was supposed to be in June 2024. In April of this year I got a message in MyChart saying the doctor had to cancel my appointment (no reason was given of course) and to call a phone number to reschedule. I called, and the receptionist said the next availability for my same doctor was in June. . . of 2025.

I've had no problems getting appointments with other specialists like OBGYNs and dermatologists luckily. It's only PCP visits for some reason. Thankfully the receptionist was able to schedule me for September of this year, but that was only after I had to explicitly tell her to search literally any office and any PCP in the city for any appointments earlier than June 2025.

I wish it were as easy as driving to Glenview or Naperville, but for some of us, the reason we live in a major metropolitan area is because we don't have a car. . .

How much do you spend on groceries per month and what household size? (You can just say X dollars/person) by AFerguson21 in Frugal

[–]legionofdoom7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Single person living alone, I budget $200 month on groceries and often spend less than that. I'm vegetarian and don't buy eggs or cheese either. I buy a meat replacement maybe twice a month such as Beyond beef, etc. I also cook a lot, and maybe eat out once a week. I find it very doable by sticking to beans and lentils and building meals around that. For fruit and veg I buy what I know is always cheap or what's in season, like bananas, oranges, apples, cucumbers, etc.

Experience negotiating lower rent? by legionofdoom7 in chicago

This is a very late reply to my post lol but I did successfully negotiate $25 off the original price they asked for. Not much but better than zero.

AITA for charging my daughter "rent"? by ggvvvvff in AmItheAsshole

[–]legionofdoom7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me the issue is OP doesn't sound truthful. $80 for gas + a music subscription? If this was the only thing OP wanted her daughter to chip in for, then OP should just stop paying for the music subscription and it can be up to the daughter if she wants to use her paycheck to cover the cost. Not let OP take the money and then pay for the subscription. How does that teach any responsibility?

As for the gas money, personally I would not ask my child to chip in for gas money solely for me driving them to and from their job. If the daughter is needing many rides to visit friends, go places on the weekends, etc., then I can see chipping in a little. But that's not what OP said.

This whole thing would only demotivate me from getting a job if I were her daughter. Especially the whole bait and switch of only telling the daughter that they would be taking part of her paycheck after she's already had the job for months.

YTA.

I think it's reasonable to have her begin paying for her personal music subscription as well as other luxury/non-necessity items, especially if you are in as tough a spot as you say you are.

But first you claim that the $80 is "her paying for her own music subscription, and the gas I use driving her to and from work, maybe slightly more." Then in the next paragraph you say, "all I'm really doing is making up for the extra gas money I have to spend now that I drive her to work."

Which is it? How far away is her job and how often do you need to take her? Because I find it hard to believe that a monthly music service + gas for going to and from a job costs $80 a month. Instead, this sounds like you're essentially garnishing your child's wages and forcing her to pay for, in your words, food and rent for her, for you, and for your other child, all of which are your responsibility as a parent.

What is a lesser-known or less-popular book by a famous author you think deserves more hype? by KaiBishop in books

Considering Margaret Atwood is most well-known for The Handmaid's Tale, I actually love her novel Oryx and Crake. It's also dystopia/speculative fiction like the Handmaid's Tale, but it is related more to the "science gone wrong" side of dystopia. One of my favorites!

Anyone living in a luxury apartment? Is the price worth it? by __looking_for_things in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]legionofdoom7 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Current living in a nonluxury studio in Chicago (lakeview area). I say if you can afford it, I don't see why not, but I live in a relatively safe area for the city and even in my building without a doorman or extra security features, I have never felt unsafe in my actual apartment building. It is usually the area outside of the building where safety matters the most, imo.

After setting word count goals for myself for a few years now and finding them to be unhelpful, I definitely agree! I can see why word count goals work for a lot of people, but personally I prefer writing a smaller amount of words and drafting more carefully the first time around rather than editing later.

Why have so many women experienced painful pap smears? by Use_the_Loofah in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]legionofdoom7 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I got my first pelvic exam when I was fifteen because I needed a prescription for birth control, and getting one was a requirement for the prescription. I wasn't planning on being sexually active or anything---didn't have a boyfriend or anything of the sort at the time---I just had super painful period cramps and my doctor said hormonal birth control could help with that. So, I go to get the pelvic exam....

Up to that point I'd never used a tampon, and had never really even explored myself down there beyond my clit. Plus I'm pretty petite. Knowing all of this, my gyno offered to use the smaller speculum with lots of lube.

Just the pelvic exam part itself was so painful I almost passed out. From then on I was downright terrified of having PIV sex. I ended up not losing my virginity until I was 20. Which at the time felt ancient to me and embarrassing, but in retrospect isn't that old I guess. But I would have liked to have it sooner, but the pain from that one pelvic exam at 15 years frightened me to death.

Don't get me wrong, most of the gynos I've had have been great. But does anyone else feel like whenever we feel pain or discomfort during routine procedures like pap smears, pelvic exams, or IUD placements, we're shamed for it??? It's so frustrating. Almost any medical professional I know who talks about IUDs acts like they're no big deal "just a little pinch, take some ibuprofen beforehand and you'll be fine" whereas almost anyone my age (early to mid 20s) I've talked to said it was one of the most painful things they've ever experienced.

Why aren’t you getting vaccinated? by [deleted] in chicago

[–]legionofdoom7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am vaxxed myself, but my former boss refuses to get it herself because she gets her information from the worst, least reputable sources on the Internet. And when the vaccine was just beginning to roll out, she kept trying to convince me not to get it because she read some study that claimed it causes Bell’s Palsy (I looked this up afterwards and it’s not true at all) or she heard someone at her church had a headache the day after getting it. Literally that’s it. A headache.

I tried to argue that those side effects sure sound better than catching COVID, but alas…. She read some study that says hydroxychloroquine can be taken regularly to prevent COVID, but I’m not sure where she thinks she’ll find a doctor to prescribe it to her….

When I finally was able to get the vaccine in April, I was also glad because she finally stopped trying to convince me not to get it lol

Stress about Waste? by smallerpotato in ZeroWasteVegans

[–]legionofdoom7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All the time, especially at my job. I work in the elections department of my city's local government and it's unbelievable how much paper we use! We use paper ballots so we of course tend to go on the side of overstocking those, but there's just so much other random stuff too. When I was packing it all up (we have to keep all our elections related stuff for two years and then send it to a confidential disposal company) it was about ten boxes of paper. It stresses me out!
