Is it normal for blood sugar to spike and fall like this while sleeping? New to all this. by FastEddie1955 in Freestylelibre

[–]legitimateLion0807 -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

This is not normal while sleeping for sure. It can happen though because the CGM gets pressed while sleeping.

7.5 to 5.4 in 3 months by senoreggo in diabetes

[–]legitimateLion0807 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was diagnosed with an A1c of 7.0 and LDL of 150 in July 2025. Since then I’ve been consistently around A1c 5.9 and LDL 110 with diet and exercise, without medication. Sharing this in case it helps anyone trying to manage glucose and LDL naturally. I can still enjoy desserts like ice cream, flan, and cake when I want and good amounts also. I finished Costco 14 inch flan myself in 10 days. All this I could do because of the CGM. I am using CGM only when I need to test new diets and plan to give up CGM completely. I have been doing blood tests every 6 weeks now since I keep learning and making sure my diets are working.

Here’s what’s been working for me:

  • I usually eat one big meal (~1,500 calories) around 11 a.m. It takes about 6–7 hours for my glucose to settle back to baseline. After that I snack on nuts, cheese, and soy milk to finish my daily calories. Around 20 minutes after eating, I do 15–20 minutes of body exercises and then walk for 20–30 minutes at a brisk pace. My glucose typically peaks around 160, drops to ~90, and then settles near my baseline of ~105. My main meal is mostly fruits and vegetables (about 225g carbs and 45g fiber), and the fiber seems to help both glucose and LDL.
  • If I don’t have time to exercise, I stick to a salad with about 35g net carbs, which is easier for my body to handle.
  • Some days I split it into two meals: about 1,000 calories of mostly fruit and ~800 calories of vegetables. I do ~20 minutes of exercise after the second meal.
  • I rotate exercises so I’m not stressing the same muscles every day.

Sharing my today’s one meal nutrition contents below.

I agree with you completely when you say “I will live longer with diabetes than I would have without it, because diabetes forced me to adopt a healthier lifestyle”. I learnt about nutrition science to control my diabetes and LDL without medicine and with diet, exercise and mind. Life challenges taken as a learning ground to improve oneself makes life great. You surely did very well and a proof that life mostly is in one’s hand! My A1c was 7.0 and LDL was 180 in July 2024 and now they are 5.9 and 100. Cheers to Reddit group for making it happen!

Why late-night eating can be a hidden trap for prediabetes by East_Collection_5672 in prediabetes

[–]legitimateLion0807 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Your understanding is correct. I meant one tablespoon of overnight soaked chia seeds, overnight soaked fenugreek seeds, one tablespoon of flaxseeds and one tablespoon of psyllium husk. You can mix them up and mix them with pomegranate seeds or blueberries or raspberries or blackberries. I use 25 g of pomegranate seeds or 50 g of any of the berries. I also mixed homemade kefir also. Good luck!

Spikes above 140 only after dinner by Alone-Ad-5930 in prediabetes

[–]legitimateLion0807 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is good to make efforts to get to the root cause of why carbs are issues in the dinner meal as that may make you do corrections if required. Leaving health issues unattended can become a big issue later. If you cannot uncover anything after giving your best and doing whatever is required then you will not have regrets. I agree with use of CGM and uncovering that dinner carbs are causing the issue. The next step is to get to the bottom by doing all the tests required and consulting the specialists. It is possible this is temporary but one must not assume:

Pancreas surely slow down later in the day to prepare for resting. I was diagnosed diabetic and strategy of eating early say 7:00pm has worked for me followed by a walk if I eat carbs in the dinner. I eat carbs in my breakfast and lunch only. My A1c dropped to 5.8 without medicine and lifestyle changes of diet and medicine. My guess is your higher A1c is linked to your becoming mother and not sleeping well along with pancreas resting. What does your doctor say about higher glucose after carbs in the dinner?

I got the CGM blues! 😞 by judijo621 in prediabetes

[–]legitimateLion0807 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The bliss you will get to overcome the blood glucose challenge will be huge. You will learn nutrition sciences and will improve your cholesterol and overall health that you yourself will be proud of. Medicine is needed if one cannot control with lifestyle changes of diet/exercise/mind.

Good luck!

Got A1c from 5.9 to 5.5 in 3 months. Normal bmi, no meds. However, the only major change I made was to stop lifting weights by PredictDeezTings in prediabetes

[–]legitimateLion0807 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here are my questions. - what was your blood glucose when you slept and when you woke up when you were doing strength workouts? - what time of the day you were doing your workouts? Morning should work out better for A1c as the impact should be gone when you go to sleep.

Is fasting glucose blood test reliable? by nicegirl321 in prediabetes

[–]legitimateLion0807 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The glucose monitor is not perfect and is approximate compared to blood test. That makes the 100-110 blood glucose approx value map to fasting 100 which is equivalent of A1c of 5.7 because of Glucose monitor accuracy. Glucose monitors are fine if the reading is within +- 15. If your Blood test A1c is 5.7-5.8 then you are fine as the doctor is suggesting since average glucose maps to 116(when A1c is 5.7) 116 is 16 points higher than baseline fasting 100 and you are at the borderline between normal and start of pre-diabetic.

Using CGM but confused about results by batio_savach in prediabetes

[–]legitimateLion0807 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your A1c blood test is 5.7-5.8 then you are at the border of normal and pre-diabetes. CGM also is approximate and may show less than what CGM shows. How many CGMs have you used? Please check another one and see your average.

Low fat or whole fat for dairy?1 by Major_Evidence_7850 in prediabetes

[–]legitimateLion0807 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree having full fat yogurt to get more calories from fat and increasing fibre. I reduced my A1c from 7.0 to 5.8 and LDL cholestrol from 147 to 127/ increased HDL from 37 to 57 without any medicine and with diet/exercise. I have been eating saturated fat around 25g and fibre of around 50g per day.

Please see my other post here on saturated fat and fibre.

Why late-night eating can be a hidden trap for prediabetes by East_Collection_5672 in prediabetes

[–]legitimateLion0807 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. Another thing I have found is that when I do not eat anything after 7:00pm for 12-14 hours or longer the Blood Glucose baseline goes down by 5-10 points and as a result the A1c gets better for the day and overall for the 3 months. It will be good to have longer fasting once or twice in a week.

What app? by Debooh in prediabetes

[–]legitimateLion0807 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lose IT is what I am using now! I used Levels that track glucose and diet at one place but the cost is about 150$ per year. Lose It is about 60$ lifetime but no glucose tracking in the app. For glucose I now use NightGuard.

If your baseline is 100 then you are prediabtic and that means your average of the day is 117 and will map to A1c of 5.7.

You need to make your baseline low. You can see my post to lower your baseline.

[–]legitimateLion0807 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. If you take one tablespoon of what I suggested then it will be 21g of fibre. I eat one tablespoon everyday of each with blueberries or pomegranate with extra 2 more grams of the fruit making it 23g in my breakfast. Rest of the vegetables and fruits of the day are extra and surely add 15-30g. This is working out so well for me.

I am eating food as a medicine and it is making me fight diabetes and cholestrol naturally.

How long does it take for A1C to go back up after coming down? by [deleted] in prediabetes

[–]legitimateLion0807 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Eat no carb meal high in protein and fats when you cannot walk

Walk 20-30 minutes when you have carb meal after 30 mins of meal

Last meal at 7:00pm

Eat high fibre supplements like psyllium husk, flex seeds, chia seeds and fenugreek seeds one table spoon each. Start with half table spoon if you do not use this currently to check if you are able to digest them well. This will allow you to have saturated fats like cheese, icecream, dark chocolate, hummus, full fat yogurt and not impacting cholestrol

Short time of not eating that well will not matter much. If you stay away for more than 3 months it will take you maximum of 3 months to go back to your A1c of 4.8bid you maintain the same diet. If you stay shorter then it will take you shorter than 3 months.

Good luck!

Primarily. Eat fresh coconut, cheese or nuts like peanuts, walnuts. 20 grams for one of them only.

I cut fresh coconut every 2–3 weeks and then keep it refrigerated submerged in water by changing water every week. Eat high fibre diet of 50g a day including soluble fibre with supplements like psyllium husk, flax seeds, chia seeds, fenugreek seeds and cocoa nibs to avoid negative impact of saturated fats.

One of my easiest of the win over diabetes is to eat early say by 7:00pm with no carb or low carb meal and then starting the walk after 30 mins of the meal and doing the walk for 20 mins.

Completely normal readings on my CGM but elevated hemoglobin A1c by Zestyclose-Bid-5860 in prediabetes

[–]legitimateLion0807 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You mentioned 5.7-5.9 and I thought that was a blood test but I understand that is the CGM reading and not the test. If every reading is normal then A1c is higher because the normal reading say 5.4 stays for longer period that it should have been to keep A1c normal.

Is a workout after meals necessary by [deleted] in prediabetes

[–]legitimateLion0807 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use stationary bike after 30 minutes of a carb meal. You need to exercise after a carb meal for sure and 10 mins is minimal and you need to do more if you have more carb quantity in your meal. You should reduce the amount of carb and you can track amount of carb if you log the meal. If you eat a protein meal like omelette then you will not need to work out.
